I have installed these boxes only for a trip I am planing in January with friends. last time I carried my stuff on a backpack and It started Hurting after a while.
I do not plan to keep them forever. For Once In a while I guess It does'nt warrant 20k kharcha of HD original bags and I do not like the look with ugly rear.

Installing it was such a pain. It requires a Special Diaphragm compression Tool , which is used to compress clutch Diaphragm while removal or installation.
Clutch Diaphragm is held in place by a Snap ring , which is under tremendous pressure with clutch assembly pushing against it.
To remove this ring , Diaphragm need to be pressed inside , releaving the pressure on Ring. after that it can be removed by a ring compressor tool.

I did not have either of the Special tools required , and was Itching to get the Job done. Riding around with a slipping clutch is not fun.

So made some Jugad fixtures to compress the clutch. took all of 1 hour for fabrication .

          .

Anyway , Feed back on new Clutch Diaphragm:
Its feel Hard to operate and is a major pain if one is stuck in Traffic for long.
Its engagement is Brutal , and now I can feel that racing clutch setup. Every time on upshift one can feel brutality of that 100+ torque.
Also this makes the bike Non-novice friendly , the very first time I rode the bike after Install , I almost put if down due to too sudden transfer of power. but within 2 days , now I got hang of it pretty good and Clutch which Initially seems very very hard , now seems manageable.

Now its is nothing Lady like about this Motorcycle , Its barbaric , its Rough riding suspension, surging power delievery , poppy clutch.
If it was any more Manly , It would need to shave!

Thats why novice / old / tired / wannabe riders / dont love sportsters , cuz they cant handle them!lol
          And I am Loving it!

            Wow
As surgeons we get to see the internals of the human body but it is equally enthralling to see the internals of the motor.
Your thread is making me take a second think about that brutal conversion of yours.

And wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year. Looking forward for more posts

              Hehe.
Just like experienced surgeons know what goes where ,how and why , Mechanical engineers are suppose to know same about motors.

Moreover I do Same or similar stuff for the manufacturer I work with. Only difference being , I have to do the physical bit personally on my bike , while in Office its more like a Guide and Training role for design of Motor parts.

It took a while due to temperature and work but Finally completed the First 2000km after the Engine Upgrade. They say , after about 1000miles/1600km the Project can be considered complete. If one does not run into problems in first 1600km , it can be safely said that engine is happy and reliable.
The Other Bike I did (RED superlow from CHD) has also covered around 2000km since the upgrade. That guy went on the Agra ride aswell and rode around 800km practically nonstop on nicely laid blacktop highway. Called me up and said \\\\\\\"I am not visiting dealership for work, ever!\\\\\\\"
I dont think dealers do a bad job , just that official channel takes months and months for parts to arrive , Parts end up being more expensive than importing personally , labour cost is sky high and after all that , Bikes keep overheating and
Now folks all over the world from USA to Australia have used Hammer 1250 (Refer XLforum.net) and have reported them lasting very nicely with an average life being 60-80k km. I hope I get to that figure in coming years.
Also almost brand new Iron is coming in for engine upgrade 1250. Parts are already on their way and will be here in a couple of days.
This is going to be India\'s First Iron 1250.
