  • @King: It's the CB 1000R and NOT the CBR 1000R. The CB is the naked version while the CBR is the fully faired Superbike of Honda. Namely, there are two motorcycles which you are talking about, and getting confused about:

    Honda CBR 1000RR (fully-faired)
    Honda CB 1000R (street-naked)

2 months old now and very naughty ... yes boxer.

8000 Kms done on blade and the rear tyre is beginning to spin and slide with ABS working overtime...

The tread wear indicator has been completely run over....
But the front tyre has no such wear.

Can running the bike on low air pressure result in alot of wear ? As my friend's cbr 600 which has done around 5k-6k kms, is no where close to this much wear (both bikes same tires, just different size)

There is alot of difference in the feel of the bike just because of this. Wheel spins alot more on acceleration, (maybe also because of winter) and also on braking the rear looses itself alot more (ABS saves the day though )..

Now I am on the lookout of new rear tyre and I think the Michelin Pilot Power 2ct is the best for me...

Wow.. 8k and rear tyre gone! I still have another 2k left in my 12k old rear tyre.

If you run low pressures, then the tyre will wear out like nobody's business man. Run at factory pressures if you're riding around the street.

PS: I see some evidence of one or more burnouts there

            • No burnouts The marks are a result of a minor wheel spin while approaching the garage from the main gate... the floor is polished stone, so kinda slippery, and that wheel spin is my moment of glory
Ive been told that the combined ABS of the bike will prevent a stationary burn out. Never tried it.
There was a puncture in the tyre which went undetected for a looong time, I think the rapid wearing out of the tyre is a result of that and my negligence
12k is nice dude ! which tyre is it ?

12k on the tyre that the R1 came with. The Pilot Power soft compound. Don't take my word for this though.. My acceleration is very gradual and I don't touch the rear brake at all. Other R1 riders eat through the same tyre in about 8k or thereabouts.

Keep the pressures just below factory spec (about 1-2 PSI) , and you'll be fine. Checking for punctures, and the chain condition is something I always do before taking the bike out of the garage. Has saved me from quite a few minor incidents.

                • changing pressures is a great way to get more grip . however more grip can equal to less milege. It is also a dark art and to get optimum grip requires a pressure suited to the road, your riding style and the weather condition.

unless you are scraping bits and knees regularly, run street pressures of 36-42 stone cold. they tyres will last you a while. any lower than than for commutuing , and you are just wasting tyres.

                  • Whoa!! Your tire is nearly bald in the street context! Good for dry roads with no dust/gravel but complete, total disaster in the wet!!

I got good news for you... Nothing grand, but will reveal when we meet...

                    • Litre bikes eat up tires a lot faster then a 600, 8K is actually a very decent number. The Pilot Sport (or Power) soft compound for me used to last 5k and pow!

                      • Yup go for the Pilot Power 2ct or the Bridgestone BT016.
You wont go wrong with either of them.

                        • both those tyres have very different profiles. the bridgestones are very neutral handling, so they are great If you are not super confident in leaning the bike all the way over onto the edge.

The pilot power 2cts are on my bike atm and they help the bike turn heaps better mostly due to its steep profile. however you need to be very committed to the corner because at half lean, they feel twitchy and a bit nervous.

                          • So what else you planning to buy from UK for the bike? Its high time you at least got an exhaust for it.

Although its wasn't a reply for me, yet wanted to ask, would they work well in the Indian context? Basically we dont have any place where we can lean the bike at half lean even... Plus the roads are a mix of gravel, fine dust and ghutka packets... So basically I guess a 'harder than stock' and durable tire is on the cards...

I guess Fireblah's gonna keep the 'Blade stock...

Steep profile? Are you talking about the front?
