Hey buddy, I'm thinking of going for a pre-owned Comet, as it's the only one out there to fill me with adrenalin without leaving me broke. Can you suggest of anything I should know of, like maintainance issues, special requirements like high-octane fuel, special engine oil, availability of spares, etc, before buying the bike? I live in a small town, hence better I should know this stuff before going for the purchase.

@diffuser911: I will not advise you going in for a Comet, primarily because bbsr has no competent mechanics to service it AFAIK, plus getting spares is gonna be a bone breaking job for you.

If you can find a Comet owner in Bbsr/Cuttack, it would definitely help you gain insight about ownership experience! Till date I have never seen a Comet/Aquilla in all my time in Bbsr/Cuttack

Thanks praful, but at the same time, people here own a couple of SBKs, like R1 and Busa. Maintainance will be a pain, but a performance bike within reach is awesome. BTW, Sudip (archi's cousin) said that a RD350 group is there, which gets mechanic from Bangalore once every 6 months, with all the spares required and he does the job. Looking that way, even the RD seems a reality here. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but a 2 lakh Ninja will be a toll on me for a couple of years.

I have spoken to a RD owner in Bbsr and you wanna know how I met him, I caught up with him on my Dio when he was ripping his bike!

Thats the state in which they are, exotic bike needs good maintenance and once a month checkups, etc will be a real pain in the backside. Unless you intend on keeping one of these bike's as a weekend only bike and not as a replacement for your daily use bike!

Btw, the R1's, Ninja's owners hardly keep their bike longterm. The only guy who actually kept a sbk for a really long time was this guy who has/had a really old CBR 400 or something like that. And that too was in a pathetic state!!!

Any R1/Busa/SBK mechanic can easily do the servicing for the comet.
And regarding the spare parts, if he can source R1 and Busa's spares then he can easily source the Comets parts.
high octane - Again no issues a normal petrol is good enough.
Engine oil - I recently changed to Synthetic oil(factory) and its doing magics
Regarding the possession of a comet for a long term, you can again do it without much issues.

Ummm, there...you made it tough for me to decide. I was planning a 3/4 day breakup between my CBZ and any other road-ripper. Weekend biking won't be an option, as many posers out there need a lesson. But I am seriously considering this time to get a bigger machine, as CBZ is falling short of expectations, and P220 and ZMA don't impress me much.

Prabhu, the mechanics are sparser here than SBKs, hence the worry. Other things, thanks for confirming.

                          Spare part solution

                          Hi All,

Theres tis guy called Richard Jordan in Korea, who runs an online shop for Hyosung spares. He can be seen at HYOSUNG GV/GT 125/250/650: Hyosung Parts For Reasonable Prices

You can email him at [email protected] with a list of all the spares you need and he will send you the price of the parts. Add $25 for shipping. He can ship a lots of parts for that shiping price. So I suggest give him a one time list of all the things u need and he will give it to you. IN ANY CITY IN INDIA THAT IS SERVED BY DHL !!!!

Trust me it comes much cheaper than haggling with the Kinetic dealers at the nearest big city, which will be Kolkatta in case of BSRB !!
For example, for a rear brake shoe for my Aquila, I was quoted 3200 by the Kinetic guy, and its 18$ at Richards website, adding 25$s as shipping will still make it cheaper than wat Kinetic said !!
Also it that 25$ shipping you'll also get a lot of other stuff too.
He will get u stuff in 6-7 days, its a insured, tracked courier service, whereas any Kinetic guy will take at least a month !!!

Plus you will avoid the attitude these Kinetic guys show.
He is trust worthy, lots of pple even in US and Austraia get stuff from him.
Only prob is that you'll need to transfer money in USDs to him.

                          Hope this helps !!
Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

+1 for Richard Hyosung, except that the parts will be held in Indian customs for a Month, you will be notified later, go there & give a declaration that is for personnel use & they will release it in a week.

many alternate source of parts are also possible, mostly from old Feiro (Oil filter) ZMA break pads (after some chopping), custom speedo worm & modified Suzuki zuest or heat clutch cable with minor mods etc ...

I had 1 to 4 of my comet garage threads but they are gone now.
