    1. Color scheme is very interesting topic. I would suggest you to keep the newly acquired marron tank aside and search for the used tank from junkyard. If you are lucky to get a decent one, repaint according to your choice of color.
    2. Sorry, I don't know the color code of RXZ racing blue.
    3. Crank assembly is not a moving part for the showroom/dealers so they don't have it readily, however, they can always place an order. Don't expect them to arrive soon but at the same time have patience.
    4. Magneto - you mean the flywheel drum or the coil plate? Anyways, I would think from where you buy will be an important and start to validate it's genuinity.

@rxdude: Do share the names and places from where you procured the parts from and if at all comfortable the price. Also what was the process that you had to follow to grab hold of the parts? Was there any waiting involved or these parts were available off the shelf. Did you had to pay any advance if so what mode of payment who was your contact person to confirm the parts arrival etc.

i believe adding such inputs will make this thread more informative and productive for other passionate 2 stroke fans too who are looking forward to a similar project but are hesitant to go ahead with it due to doubts in availability of parts.

                    Cheers,

                              Cheers,

I am from Kerala and more than 95% parts were procured from Kerala only. After Banglore I think Kerala is where you find a lot of 2 strokes especially Yamaha. So parts are available here.
From my part hunting experience what I can tell is
1 Dont ever think that you can get all the parts from one shop. If you are planning to do so your restoration may take years.
2 Do your homework well, to say about me what I knew was only the basics of how an engine works. Parts name and even the idea of rebuilding the bike came after going through this forum only. I have read through most of the threads in 2 stroke section. But the mistake I did was I didn't note down some important points which get handy later.
3 Have good patience, there are times when you understand money just cant buy you everything. So wait patiently.
4 Have a good rapport with whoever is supplying you the parts, so that you stay in their memory.( That doesn't mean you have to call up them in the middle of their work and disturb them)
5 Always have a through knowledge about what you are dealing with, which I lacked
6 always plan what you want so it can avoid a lot of hassles later
7 Your parts catalogue is your Bible, carry it always with you, you don't know when or where you are going to get the parts
8 Saw a part that you want, grab it then and there because spares for RX won't wait for you.
9 Considering the availability of spares its good idea to stock some parts. What are the parts to be stored? Read Karthik's thread. I forgot the thread title, sorry.
These I wrote for newbies like me and is not applicable to you Shv18. I know you are veteran in this. Apart from the 2 strokes thread, the thread I have read extensively is FZ ownership thread. So I know you pretty well
                              Now to answer queries
All the parts I bought from Yamaha genuine part dealer at Kochi. Prime motors. The shop is a small one but its always busy with people who comes for Rx spares exclusively. Some of the items were just of the shelf. They are not at all willing to take an order or book parts in advance even if you advance full payment.
Chassis and a few other parts I literally begged him to keep for a few days as I am living a little far from the place and the nature of my job doesn't allow me to travel on will.
Other parts I had to order at Yamaha showroom and paid an advance and waited for more than 2 weeks. I have given an order for more than 30000 rs and the guy knows me pretty well so he calls once the parts arrive and I go and collect. Crank assy is the only thing left for me to get.
When I get time I will scan all the bills and upload for everyone's information. I got all the parts at MRP only.

According to the information i got The only major part that is not at all available from Yamaha is carb and head.
Will make a detailed write up from PC rather than from a small screen.

Administrators excuse, Sorry for posting multiple posts as multiquote is not available in this app or I could not find the same.

Shv18 - Read the lines below..

Those who restore RX considered as passionate rider. Imagine, not everyone does gets parts from the same dealer, same location etc. Waiting period to get the spares is another story. Most of the members in 2 strokes section knows what it takes, for others, in simple words, it is NOT easy.

                                Now, to answer your questions:-

                                01. Where do we get spare parts? Contact Yamaha Showroom
                                02. Price? Contact Yamaha Showroom
                                03. What is process to grab the spare parts? Contact Yamaha showroom
                                04. What is the waiting period? Contact Yamaha Showroom
                                05. Any advance to be paid? Contact Yamaha Showroom.

Contact Yamaha showroom in your location if not already done.

Still have questions? Post your query.

i believe adding such inputs will make this thread more informative and productive for other passionate 2 stroke fans too who are looking forward to a similar project but are hesitant to go ahead with it due to doubts in availability of parts.
There are many threads to go through where seniors have shared the processs, if still there are questions, those want to restore 2 strokes can start a thread and discuss.

FYI..Anyone wants to do the rebuild/restoration will need to understand what it takes to go through, it involves - basic knowledge, loaded wallet, time, smartness, patience, parts hunt, joy, frustration, pain, sleeplessness, exitement, passion, love, eye for detail, contacts, etc..etc.
