Yes you are right man. This feeling of nostalgia that is associated with these bikes is like a drug to a true enthusiast. And that goes for all old bikes not just the rx100. Our passion is what defines us. For us its not the bike its the feel that gives us wings.

You have used beautiful words for this machine and the last words(gives us wings) reminds me of Red bull Formula one team, same kind of words are written on there rear wing of F1 car 'Gives You Wings',
Yeah we are driven by passion, and when we start restoring any old bikes we pour all of ourselves into it, keep up the good work buddy.

Re: Restoration of a 1989 Yamaha RX100,by an 18 year old.
Hi,
I am new to this thread, i planning to restore my RX 100. i want to know the following details.
1. Is there a mikuni carburetor for RX 100?
2. Local mechanics say there are imported clutch for 7000 (in chennai) which can increase the performance ?
3. what is the use of quick throttle? and it is really worth it
4. Is there something called brass core (muffler) for silencer
5. Brass bend pipe for exhaust (custom made in lathe) will produce good amount of beat (sound)?
Is there any other modifications you can suggestions for getting RX100 for race ready?
Thanks!

Great job on the restoration there. I too have one of the last production RX100's. Those actually came with 12V electricals. It had different graphics. Like the 125 in the picture. However I got the bike restored exactly like yours and even painted in the original shade of blue that older RX's came in.

Re: Restoration of a 1989 Yamaha RX100,by an 18 year old.
WOW .... Just Wow ! Really amazing job at restoring such a cult classic and a true legend from the past . I never though Blue would look so good on a bike like the RX100 , but boy am I wrong ( and glad to be :-p ) . Again , it's a Yamaha that did the job earlier it was a R1 that made me love the blue color .Originally posted by dmkmonk View Post
I still reposted these 2 pictures , although I had the craving to post 'em all for the whole forums to see . People really need to see this , it is that good ( if you know what I mean

Hey , I have 1 question for you ... even though it might be something you dont wanna do to a bike like this . How do you think this bike will be , if converted to a cafe racer ?
Also , can you give me an idea of the cost regarding this restoration ? A little more info regarding cost on conversion to cafe racer would be nice too
Thanks and Regards

Re: Restoration of a 1989 Yamaha RX100,by an 18 year old.
My answers in bold
If you are planning to take this to the track then its a whole new set of different setup, I suggest start a new thread. RX 135s can easily be RD killers, so potential wise, RXs have a lot to offer.Originally posted by fel208 View PostHi,

Yes, Buy you will only get Micarb these days from the showroom(this is better than rebuilding an old mikuni)
2. Local mechanics say there are imported clutch for 7000 (in chennai) which can increase the performance ?
RX 100 is more of a workhorse, imported clutch is just snake oil, do not replace/ repair which is not broken
3. what is the use of quick throttle? and it is really worth it
Quick throttle, is majorly used for stunting purposes where you might need the help for popping up wheelies, it has no other benefits
4. Is there something called brass core (muffler) for silencer
no, the core is usually made up of steel and is zinc dipped which gives it a yellow tint, theoretically you can make the core using anything, better idea is not to waste money on this, the normal cores are more than enough. they get coated with oil.
5. Brass bend pipe for exhaust (custom made in lathe) will produce good amount of beat (sound)?
this is again a useless item, bend pipe does not effect sound unless its too thin.
Is there any other modifications you can suggestions for getting RX100 for race ready?
Thanks!

RX with current documents were mostly restored or in a condition that doesn't need a restoration in near future
- Former case won't fit the budget
- Later case are owned by passionate people and never see used market
The one available for 25k are either without documents in order or with a crappy engine or non TN/KA/KL registered

Re: Restoration of a 1989 Yamaha RX100,by an 18 year old.
OMG! What a beautiful restoration. Congrats bro. Btw read this thread 2 days ago, i fealt jealous when i read the title "By an 18 year old". I always thought i'm too young to own and restore an rx. And yesterday i made my aim to own and restore a japan model rx100 come what may. You are an inspiration to me bro and im glad that finally my childhood dream will come true. Today i went for inspection of a 1989 japan model rx, its with a mechanic near my home and he was asking for 15k, after some barganing he came down till 12k, i havent rode it yet but he admits that it'll start in one kick. Will be doing a detailed test drive tomorrow and will seal the deal for 10k,no matter how does it runs as i am planning to do a intense restoration on her. So wish me luck guys,by gods grace soon i'll be a proud owner of the mighty beast!
