One more suggestion. Paste a transparent sticker (may be sun control films) at the rear end of the tank. This will prevent (to some extent) from the tank / paint damage due to seat & tank rubbing.

Not alone tank paint damage, it is a good place that holds water during rainy season and causing rust. I have faced this issue in my 2001 Splendor. Sticker can prevent it to some extent as you suggested.Originally posted by Mr.Boss View PostCongrats dude. Awaiting the snaps of final outcome.

Some new model bikes(I've seen them on Yamaha Libero, I think my Hunk too has this) come with sticker directly from factory.

Wise suggestion. Waterproof rubber Stickers are available in bike novelty shops. They do the job quite nicely.Originally posted by Mr.Boss View PostCongrats dude. Awaiting the snaps of final outcome.

You do wash the bike from time to time right? That is enough to trap water near the seat/tank junction and rust the tank.Originally posted by dmkmonk View PostReally useful info guys!,I never thought of doing this.Anyways will surely paste a sticker. And the thing about monsoons!.Will have to see if my bike ever sees the rains

Re: Restoration of a 1989 Yamaha RX100,by an 18 year old.
dmkmonk congrats! It's an awesome feeling I know when you have realized your dream. I've been there, done that, two years ago.
Now its a crucial stage. Runnin. You need to be careful and be attentive to the detail of engine note and behaviour. Your engine is bound to heat up (New rings) a lot so remember to give a break regularly. Try not to over feed 2T oil as it spoils cumbustion thus results in sluggish response.
