Everything from Gladiator is direct fit, I mean the complete front end. The other bike many prefer is Pulsar classic front end.

Thanx Bro will try to source parts from patny motors in my city as per your advice.

I also am not looking to mod my bike but I know how weak the new rims are compared to the stock rims from 1986. So thought to get alloy rims for strength is all. Thought if I could get it in silver, I know a guy here who can chrome it.

Thank you so much bro. Although I have an old pic from 1986 of my dad on the bike this will help me a lot thank you.

Hey thanx Bro nice to know. In this day and age of smart bikes and idiot commuters a disk brake is a blessing. Will look into it. One question though....... How much does it change the bike in terms of aesthetics, ride height, and feel.

Now, you need to decide, you need to feel, you need to develop adaptivity when you going for enhancement. None other than you could give a real picture of how it is to ride. Also Balgi, don't expect a spoon feed here many seniors, don't encourage.

You've got it wrong Sriram. I am not asking for a spoon feed. I myself don't rely on others opinions. It is not a good way to do things. But all I wanted was an idea of wether it will be worth it to do such a mod on my bike as I am yet to see it up close. What I meant was that I saw your bike in your thread and felt the front was taller and hence sought your advice. I have modded and restored bikes before and my personal experience says I should get all the details before I proceed. And you will never see me seeking advice about useless mods that are unneccesary. Earlier in my thread I sought advice about porting so I could get first hand info about what to do and what not to do and to what extent I can go with it. I may be a rookie in this forum but I am not THAT much of a rookie in life. But in any case thank you for your advice so far it has truly been useful.

You've got me wrong again I didn't take it to the heart. In fact I reread some of my posts and realised that I may have come off as someone who is seeking anything he sees here. And you gave been very helpful why would I think you're bugging me?

Well my friend as far as the restoration is concerned I have decided to go full stock.

First up the parts I will retain.
1)Frame, swingarm and front fork with handlebars ( nothing as sturdy as the frame that saved my life in 2005)
                          2) Tank and Engine in all original ( save for the cylinder kit which will be the old G-2 bore milled to 1st oversize. and the tank shall be painted in original patina)
                          3) The drum Brakes ( I thought about it and I felt that there was no need for me to upgrade unnecessarily as the bike will be ridden by my dad and he likes to ride between 50-60 on the highways and 30-40 in the city)
                          4) original oil tank with working oil needle ( yes it actually still works. never been touched since 1986 save for top ups)
                          5) headlamp and tail lamp ( headlamp is already new and the tail is original. the original headlamp is also with me but the chrome ring is bent so unusable)
                          6) wiring and coil plate (I realized that if I want to replace the wiring finding a new one is next to impossible + I get to revert it back to 6v anytime I want to retain originality)
                          7) Tail pipe ( silencer is just gonna be buffed and shined)
                          8) switch gear (if it ain't broke don't fix it)

Next up things I am replacing..
                          1) I am replacing the carb with my old original made in japan mikuni carb
                          2) new air cleaner box
                          3) new chain guards
                          4) new fenders front and rear
                          5) new cables all around
                          6) new indicator set
                          7) new side covers painted to original patina
                          8) new con-rod and 1st os piston
                          9) new rims and tyres ( thinking michelin)
                          10)chain sprocket kit
                          11)Bulbs wherever necessary.
                          12) full body rubber kit
                          13) new shocks rear

As far as my mech is concerned I already mention before that this mech is my Dad's old time buddy and he has also helped me restore my pearl yamaha MG-2 to full stock all original. so I would blindly trust him with my life. he is basically family. not like my old mech who was very good the first time we met him when he was 17 yrs old and later became as my dad says it too commercial.

To answer your last query the nuts and bolts are in great shape and will be galvanized the missing once are the replaced once which will be again replaced. the frame has been straightened and also the fork and swingarm. the chrome bits are healthy with next to no rust....... essentials will be rechromed rest will be polished to perfection. total expected time for resto........ 1 1/2 month

                          ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

BTW Avhad Sitaram where are you from?

Kusmaker that is a possibility I considered. I saw on another thread a supra powerup restoration that they had fabricated the rear cowl in metal. Have looked into this but faced a problem with nnon availability of good grade sheet metal. Also pressing the sheets costs way too much for such a small part singular part they demand I get more than two pieces done of each else its not worth the trouble and I only have one bike☹. But its dooable.

If I had an yamha RX, I would have definitely tagged along with you for a metal fabricated cowl/any fiber part. Thanks for the PM with the mechanics details.
