good going buddy, first bike?...........You will always love your first bike no matter what the economy will suggest. My first ride was 4S and I was in love with that bike though I had to kick for ages in the morning. My very close friend has restored his smokegun and it had taken a hell amount of time and money, but the final result was awesome both in looks and speed.....hope the same is the case with you........best of luck

One of the greatest advantage with Bajaj - somehow you'll be able to get the old parts.

@KB100 - If you've a closed garage, stop the rebuild now, hunt down for parts, collect all of them & then continue. This is my sincere opinion. That way what happens is, by the time you get all the parts, the new parts aren't detoriated by fixing it on the motorcycle & this is only my opinion.

Yep! The rpm cable is really hard to find. On my bike the rpm cable hunt went for around 5 days. then I got one and it is running perfectly now. What about fuel gauge cable? Mine still doesn't have one. And yes the HH rims are pretty good. Mine has the same too. By the way how much does it cost for painting and chroming alone?

put some vaseline on the cover, or buff it with brasso, the shine will last longer.

@argee; stopping the build is out of the question , the rebuild must be finished before the first week of june as the registration has to be renewed besides i have about 95% of the parts necessary for the rebuild..the only problem is that ectoplasm of a mechanic is busy working on other bikes he tore down a splendor today for another rebuild...it's the time to blast him.....again!!!

@harish: it depends on the location on an average it varies between 3-4g
regarding plating it depends on the size of the part to be plated i havent received the bill yet

@jd666; i thought brasso could be used only for brass objects

^^ true, but you need it right now to protect the shine. otherwise use carnuba wax or something to trap the surface of the cover from air. The longer it will stay exposed, the quicker it will oxidize and turn dull whitish grey.

just received the rear fender and spokes after plating, turns out we bought only 36 spokes abt to buy the rest and repeat the same.

@harish; plating the front fender costs 300rs here, did u buy the whole cable or just the inner wire

@jd666; ive covered it up with paper and sealed them in plartic bags hopefully that will do the trick

                        ps;still no rpm cable

@harish; 350 for the rpm cable is too much , none of the cables that i bought costs more than 170, btw what brand was it ,was it oem

finally all the parts required have been aquired (except rpm cable) and hopefully the assembly will start today

                                assembly started........finally!!!

@jd666;your luck seems to work wonders for me...at last the assembly started...the rain which was fallng for the past 2 weeks has stopped today....painting is almost done...finally managed to get the rear fairing sticker custom made though i had to do the final shaping myself, also bought a pair of caliber fork springs to go with the fork tubes

ps;please wish me luck for the rpm cable jd666
