A month and a half back I did a Bangalore - Chennai trip on my revamped KB. The mileage that I got was an astounding 55 kms to a litre. The speed was restricted to a maximum of 70 kmph mostly averaging between 60 - 65kmph. Was a tiresome journey because of the low speeds but then the objective was to reach destination without any mechanical hiccups. My return trip also gave a similar average. The return trip - had the issue of the clutch cable completely getting loose, maybe because of the vibration. This was after 105kms. Luckily for me, a roadside mechanic fixed it in no time. The screw seems to be loosening up, need to have this checked.

Awesome. The very fact that u attempted a 350 km solo ride on a 2 stroke bike was commendable.

More details please. How long did it take, how many breaks, how did the bike behave and any other observations.

Started off very early at 5 a.m. Took the route via chittoor, its shorter and I kind of like this road as it has some sections which have easy curves, which will be interesting to any biker rather than having a straight line ride like the Krishnagiri route. It took me 6-1/2 hours( door to door). With 2 stops. One stop at Chittoor for a tea and another stop after the last toll towards chennai.
Started off very comfortably until i reached Kolar when all of a sudden the carburettor started giving problems. The bike would start gasping beyond 5000 rpm ( 45 Kmph). Cant open the accelerator. Tried using the choke, helped a bit. Again, the similar symptoms. Had to manage this for about 10 kms or so. Then the problem was sorted out on its own. Guess, it was some kind of dirt/ trapped dust in the jet.
After this, the accelerator opened up completely and did a 90 kmph stint for a km. Did not attempt to push beyond this.

All kb owners please check what model of spark plugs you are using, kbs should be running NGK B7ES or MICO Bosch W5DC spark plugs , these plugs have a longer threaded portion compared to the plugs used in yamahas and suzukis , check and revert to the specified sparkplugs to avoid melted piston/burnt sparkplug or both '
Those who cannot locate the specified plugs from local shops , the bosch W5DC plugs can be purchased from Royal enfield dealerships, just ask for the sparkplugs for old model thunderbird (the first one with single plug and avl engine) W5DC was standard fitment for these bikes it would cost about 109/- from Enfield.
What ever you do kindly do not run Mico Bosch W 160 Z2 plugs they are hot plugs and under hard use will melt your piston (somebody i know managed to perform this deed recently)

Appu, I think its just a simple adjustment required for this problem and would not require a mechanic to do.
In this case I can imagine that your clutch remains slightly engaged while you still pressing the clutch lever fully.
This might be because of the clutch cable just falling short to do its job completely.
Get access to the clutch lever boot on the handle and try adjusting the wire adjustment nut (turn it clock-wise) so as to close in towards the lever. This shall resolve the problem.

If this does not, then it the clutch rod push ball which has got access wear and needs a replacement.

                      Cheers

The bent pipe holder was the original. The rubber kit ( 3 pcs)- were bought from DEVI Automobiles 3rd Parallel street to Commercial. Try Prem Motors opp the Shivajinagar Bus stand, there could be a possibility.

As for the painting, no clear coat was applied. But I ensured that after the first coat, it was rubbed down with a 1000 mesh, repainted, then again rubbed down and then repainted. So the base was well done. A good rubbing and it was gleaming.

Tail Lamp is a Lumax, one. Got this from Trichy, DJ Auto before I scouted for them from BLR.

Stickers - Deliberately left out. I am contemplating the "stainless steel" - 1" letters of Kawasaki one either side of the tank and the round stickers ( 4") that come on gearshift side, I need to look out for.

I woudn' suggest the mechanic with whom I worked with because he took a neat 9 months to get the bike into shape and without having to touch the engine department. There was this guy in Vijayanagar who worked on Ymaha and RTZ way back in 90's and he could tune the Carb for Rally performance. I will visit him sometime and see if he is still around. Its been more than 2 decades after I shited out from West Bangalore to the Eastern side.

I have changed the Speedometer cable along with the worm & wormwheel( plastic) but the damn thing doesnt seem to work. Could someone throw some reasoning on this. Do you think the socket where the worm sits would have worn out and is therefore, unable to mesh correctly?

the mechanic just adjusted the clutch cable. initially there was no sound while i was holding clutch. later after a ride, sound started near to clutch assembly. feel like the clutch plate sliding or getting scratched between the friction plate and steel plate. later he told he need to open the clutch assb. to find whats actually wrong. yet to fix it.

Hello Friends, I need some spares urgently for my 1989 KB100. Went around town but the shopkeepers gave me a funny look :-(

Need tacho cable, complete wiring harness and complete engine packing. Will need members from down south to help on this.
