Let me guesstimate based on sane good speeds...

    Coimbatore-Palakkad - 45 mts
    Palakkad-Thrissur - 2 Hrs
    Thrissur-Chalakkudi -1 Hr
    Chalakkudi-Angamaly - 1 Hr
    Angamaly-Kothamangalam - 1 Hr (again a guess because, I usually do Angamaly-Perumbavur-MVPA-Kothamangalam)
Kothamangalam-Munnar - 2-3 Hrs (did long time back, so not sure how its now)

For the reamining, Praful has answered you.

The hyper usually was dominated by Comet 250, Ninja 250R, P220 & a few R15s. But, we even had a ZMR joining the fast group too & C5 in the slow group. So its only the wavelength match between the riders.

Fastest route to Munnar (did it last month on the R1) is to stick to the GQ route, but it's about 50 kms longer. Took me 6 hours.

      BLR-Krishnagiri-Salem-Dindigul-Theni-Munnar.

Another good route is BLR-Salem-Chengapally (Heavy construction after this point all the way till Coimbatore)-Kangeyam-Dharapuram-Udumalpettai-Munnar

For such a large group (considering Bangy-Chennai ride together again) the Dindigul-Theni route is much better suited, the roads on the TN side till Bodi are FUNtastic!

        But 6.5 hours!

Yeah that's what I was trying to convey. Large group + narrow roads gives me nightmares. Plus the junk traffic after Palghat till Chalakudi saps a lot of energy after doing high average speeds till Palghat.

And yes 6.5 hours. Including a half hour stop for a puncture repair and the twisties after Theni

I know you have R1 but the roads are the same right?

Munnar will be an apt place for this G2G. There are lots of places around Munnar to ride to. Getting accomodation will not be a big problem once we finalize the dates. And regarding dates, we need to plan it so that everyone gets to spend one full day at Munnar.

Nelliampathy is the place where we had gone for Kovai Thumpers Motorcycle Club's anniversary...its a great place, the twisty roads are great. The Nemmara Dam and the village is awesome

So the best option will be starting the zeroth day from chennai .
for example if the G2G dates are March 11 , 12 and 13 then we have to take leave on 11 th and we have to start riding on 10 th evening.
On 10 th after office say around 6.30 - 7 Pm start riding from chennai .
Reach villupuram (160 Km from chennai ) and stay there for the day .
chennai villupuram can be easily done in 3 -4 hours max . So can crash to bed at villupuram atleast by 11 Pm . The next day 11 th we will have a full day to ride and the distance will be around 440 Km which can be comfortably covered in a single day . Also while returning we can ride to the nearest railway station and parcel the bike back and come in train if you feel exhausted by one way ride .

What i suggest is book the return ticket in train and if you find it difficul to ride till munnar from chennai then return can be in train else we can ride back in bike itself . I transported the bike from calicut to chennai on jan 3 rd and my bike reached here in one day without even one scratch .

                        Adding to the above post,
we have seasoned riders like Ananth and steve to lead us in this
who did chennai - idukki/munnar in one day .Frankly speaking comparing to Bangalore/Cochi/Trivandrum the number of beutiful/scenic places /high ranges reachable from chennai within 500 km/one day ride is very limited . So i think munnar is a pretty good option for chennai people also .

Ok so looks like Munnar it is, Munnar means its gonna be a 3 day thing. One day to ride, one day to chill, one day to ride back!

Lets freeze on the dates and commence the final planning.

Total time: 8 to 9 hours. Thats for the longer route. Hmmmmm.... I think I shall do the shorter route!!!! (Coimbatore-Pollachi-Udumalaipet-Devikulam-Munnar). Considering the hilly terrain, I hope this is doable in 5 to 6 hours.

                            Fast - 80-110

Ofcourse this would vary with the conditions of the roads. The Hyper Speed guys can't do 120's on narrow state highways
I guess I shall belong to Super-hyper-Ultra-slow-group(20-25kmph!!) behind hyper-Ultra-slow-group(25-40kmph) and way behind Ultra-slow-group(40-60kmph) based on the guesstimates of aargee!!

3 days??? Not possible for me. Since Coimb guys have less to travel, anyone from Coimb planning it for 2 days??

PS: Suddenly I see the March 12/13 weekend is gaining popularity!!! I think my chances are getting faded away!!! ...... sigh!!!

YEah! Munnar! Been wanting to go there for quite some time now!I'm loving it!
Time to start saving and preparing for this!

Also I could try with cheap accommodation there. Will look into that once we have a number estimate.

                                So lets debate the dates!

BTW, please forget about the different speed groups. We cannot do anything more than 60-80 on the roads in and around Munnar .

And one serious recommendation I have is, while riding in the hills, we should break up into small group of 6 or less bikes. This will help in avoiding difficulties for ourselves as well as other vehicles. Also everyone needs to practice their overtaking skills and do some meditation etc to increase your patience. Riding in a group, in the hills require a lot of patience as well as safe riding skills...
