  • Last time I wanted to come, but I wasn't really into long distance trips and bike was in run-in. This time, I missed this thread.

    This time, I feel like

Used to browse almost every other section, but not the tourer But, I guess I can't ride 500+kms in one stretch as well. Enjoy guys, get loads of pics!!

Praful, one more thing to be added in the MUST-HAVE lists. EVERYONE should have RVMs on their bikes. This is a must. Few precious seconds of looking around can result in a disaster.

+1 to this, RVMs are must haves even in the city. RVMs are mandatory on long rides.

Lol.. I just wanted to let others know from which city he belongs. Nothing more nothing less.

@ KL team: Give some light with regards to weather in and around Munnar. Just to be prepared. If needed shall equip accordingly.

As Srijith (frmneo...) said, its generally dry now and the climate not too cold. But being a hill station you never know. So it would be wise to take along your rain gear...

Exactly. The prediction for 3 days is as follows:

                  from: http://www.accuweather.com/en-us/in/.../forecast.aspx

But it would be a wise decision to keep your rain jacket along. You can always expect a drizzle after the next hairpin.

Those who are unaware of the 'disciplined' bus/truck drivers in Kerala roads should take an extra caution. Keeping your lane may not be enough at all times. :P Just an advice, nothing to panic!

[Update: ] Err.. I am a bit confused as another site says it'll rain on Saturday: http://www.holiday-weather.com/munna...-forecast.html

                      • @Praful:

Should we take Dindigul- Theni NH45 and following NH 49 from Theni to all the way to Munnar? Is this good?

This is what I come up with after checking the google maps.

                        Chennai----------Villupuram 161 kms - NH45
                        Villupuram--------Trichy 164 kms - NH45
                        Trichy------------Dindigul 100 kms - NH45
                        Dindigul--------- Periyakulam 060 Kms - NH45
                        Periyakulam-------Theni 016 kms - NH45
                        Theni-------------Bodi 016 kms - NH49
                        Bodi--------------Munnar 107 kms - NH49

Totally it comes to 624 kms when taking along the National Highways.

If Bodi-Munnar route taken Via Suryanallei it is only 62 kms and from Chennai it is around 580 kms (approx).

Chennai-Trichy-Dindigul-Bodi-Theni-Munnar is the shortest & fast route for folks from Chennai. Other option is Chennai-K'Giri-Salem-Erode-Udumalaipettai-Munnar which is fastest & little long route.
