Re: Hoodibaba is back from Sikkim and Bhutan - Soloride

Here is a video of Banaras. I have been to Banaras a number of times but my desire to be there again and again never gets satisfied. I love Banaras, its food, Lassi and above all a visit to Kashi Vishvanath Temple and its Ghats, not to miss arti at Ganga Ghat in the Evening.

Sir, you should be the poster-boy of this entire forum, a kind of a brand ambassador. At 43, I found Leh a bit tiring but at 57, the Northeast? You must possess outstanding physical and mental endurance and courage to not only attempt this trip but to pull it off so successively.

I feel your aches and pains fully as also your sense of achievement. If and when you come to Pune/Rajkot, please do call me on the number I have sent you in a PM and give me the pleasure of having a drink with you.

                    Salute, prost et al

                      Hi Icemang,

Thanks for the invitation. Coincidentally, I am reminded of a pleasant memories of my Rann of Kutch trip last year when at Rajkot I asked a truck driver about the route for my onward journey. He not only guided me for my onward journey but insisted on having a cold drink with him at the nearby Restaurant and he ran to fetch a cold drink for me. After spending sometime with him, he took my mobile number and insisted that I should give him a ring about my whereabout for the period I was to be Gujarat. He insisted that on my way back I should give him a ring before crossing Morbi where he would meet me. But due to lack of time, I could not meet him on my way back.

BTW I got a very warm welcome from one and all in Gujarat during my entire trip and there are many such incidents I can recall of that trip.

BTW I don't drink but thanks for the invitation.

Thanks one and all for the great response to this Thread.

Thanks Old Fox, SunilG, Sunny and all who are great job to make this site a great success and for appreciating my travelogue.

Now, I think it is time to get back to work.

                      Day –2 - 20th April, 2013 {Varanasi to Kolkata} (700+ kms)

Early morning, after having darshan at Kashi Vishwanath Temple and a boat ride of the Ghats reached NH-2 through another link road which was much worst than the link road covered last night, jammed with Trucks, (there was almost no metalled road till I reached NH-22). Rode at a comfortable speed on NH-2 and reached Kolkata by evening. Was caught in heavy traffic jam and took too long to reach Behala (at outer skirts of Kolkata). Every time I asked the locals for direction, they came up with more than one option to reach the destination).

Took more than 2 hours to cover a distance of 25 kms to reach Behala and stayed at my friends residence.

                      Day – 3 – 21st April, 2013 {Kolkata local visit}

Visited Dakshineshwar temple, Howrah Bridge and Victoria Memorial. Found this metropolis quite different from Delhi with lots and lots intersections, traffic and pedestrians added with very few straight open roads. Not much help came from Traffic Policemen to reach any place, it was a bit of confusing to drive in Kolkata. But I liked this city to the core of my heart as the people were simple and helpful. The city is quite different from New Delhi with not much fanfare and big SUVs/Cars. It belongs to rich as well as to the poorest and that was the spirit of this Great City. River Hoogly has great role to play in their life.

My heart goes Hoodiii, Hoodiiii, Hoodiiii when I see the enthusiasm that you display at your age. Taking on a journey of this epic proportion requires extensive planning and ensuring that your bike is capable of handling the terrain. Please do let us know how did you prep up your ride for this journey. Did you carry spares or relied on ASC or other mechanics to fix any unforeseen mechanical problems with the bike? I recently completed 2 rides - one was a 1200 kms ride over 4 days and another a short 1 day trip covering 310 kms and I carried some spares, engine oil and gear oil.

Looking forward to reading the rest of your story.

                              Bravo.......!!! Way to go sir...!!

One ques- Were you bothered by the traffic police? If yes, would you please mind telling us how did you get rid of them?? I ask this becasue the bike registration plate says UP-14.

PS:- I get troubled by Mumbai Cops whenever I take my MH-12 P180 to Mumbai, though I know I can take it to anywhere within a state without NOC.

As for problem from Traffic Police, I have never ever been bothered by them. In fact, during Kutch trip last year, the Traffic Policeman ran to fetch water from his jeep to offer me when I asked him for direction on the way to Bhuj.

As we carry all the papers then why should lany body bother us.
