Currently the only road access to the Nubra Valley is over Khardung La pass, whose status as the highest motorable road in the world is no longer accepted by most authorities. The Indian Government has completed another road pass over Wari La from Sakti, to the east of Khardung La, and the road connecting it to central Nubra along the Shyok River is said to be almost completed as of 2008.

Got this info guys. That's the info I was looking for. So, we can do Nubra Valley to Pangang Tso via Wari La directly in one day.

Another piece of info that confused many people:

Several of these sources contain assertions by local people who claim that the 5,602 m (18,380 feet) height claimed by the Khardung La summit signs has been inflated for the purpose of record breaking. The even higher elevation of 5,682 m (18,640 feet) that has been claimed by Guinness World Records and the National Geographic Society is not supported by any evidence and may be rooted in a copying error from 5,602 m (see - 5602 & 5682 offer a very good chance of copying error!). But it can be clearly seen on the survey map that the Khardung La was originally a mule track which followed a different, rather higher route, which appears on the map just to cross the 5,600m contour. It seems likely that when the road was built, the pass stone was moved from one to the other, although the road was rather lower.

Uploading my plan sheet (as attachment) that has most places for rest, fuel, etc marked. Please use that. Another alternate plan is also included. Nothing is confirmed - no rigid plan. What's on paper is only a guideline.

It is better you push till Sarchu for the sake of AMS and to cover distance. The numbers you've got are not all that correct. You are short by at least 100 KMs. Try to do Manali Leh in 2 days. Please check the distances between each place in my plan sheet.

@Inder-So you get leaves for 21days finally and that too without changing the company.

@KP-Great work there with the excel sheet. Didn't knew that ravi is also coming along. Try to bring the other uncle(ravikiran) for the ride.

@KP- Which bike is Ravi bringing along because last I know he was buying a CB Stunner.

Edit: My mistake. It's mentioned in the excel sheet. So he bought the Fi version.

The route to Pangong from Diskit will be:

Diskit - Khalsar - Agham village - Tangyar village - Wari La(4rth Highest Motorable road in the world as per the signboards) - Shakti village - Chang La (3rd highest motorable road in the world) - Durbuk - Tangste - Pangong.

Stay in tangste. Beautiful place, more accomodation options. Pangong is 30 kms from there.

Edit: The route that you are talking about i.e. to be completed by 2008 is via shyok directly to durbuk without crossing wari-la. As far as I know, it is still incomplete. But the one above is fine, and you can take it..It will involve some offroading but I am sure you will handle that.

No no, you didnt get my point. I meant that this WHOLE plan is for Spidy,Biru,Satyen since they are riding mumbai-leh-mumbai. But, for me and some others we are not riding from mumbai...instead we are travelling by train/flight to delhi and coming by train/flight.

The days apart from day 3 - day 17 are consumed for the mumbai - delhi - mumbai.

Thanks Buddy... but that NEW Uncle is not ready to come anywhere without his Aunty. We're anyways doing our duty of tempting him at every chance

We booked our train tickets. Our schedule is confirmed. Riders have a chance of dropping out if their work demands their presence. Have bigger plans but will reveal if something works out.

BTW, Ravi didn't yet buy a bike after disposing off the ZMA. He's yet to pickup one and the one mentioned has a good chance there. Even if he doesn't buy any bike by that time we will drag him on a bull cart

haan yaar, most of that plan was from last year. Just a few points added and alternate plan made today.

Thanks for the info mate. Yes, some off-roading is no issues. More than the road it is the time that is a problem.

For petrol bunks, see in bold above.

Suggestion, why not check out Tso Kar on Day 6 or Day 7? At debring in More Plains, you can see a nice tar road going to the right, few km's on it and you will be able to see the lake. I say it won't take more than a 3hrs to enjoy it.
Do not try to go too far ahead, as you can still continue ahead and rejoin the Manali - Leh road at Karu, you will be asked for permits at couple of places.

Dude your plan starts on 4th june & mine on 29th may. You wont be coming with us

I wont mind reaching Leh in 3 days, dont wanna push too hard. Your body wont do long distances on higher altitudes.

But as you said, nothing is concrete, we can improvise anytime, but for now am keeping the same Itenarary as my tour plan.
