Why would each have to update an Excel sheet and keep attaching it here. Why don't you create a Google spreadsheet and share it with the team. It was of great use for us last year. Just a suggestion.

Those that dream at night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act upon their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. - T. • I have a friend who specializes in taking groups to Leh every year. I met him yesterday and discussed in depth our itinerary. Some of the suggestions made by him are marked in red.

                            29 May Day 1 - Mumbai - Udaipur (760 kms)
                            30 May Day 2 - Udaipur - Delhi (670 kms)
                            31 May Day 3 – Delhi:bike servicing - Chandigarh (260 kms)
He has suggested staying either in Swarghat or in Bilaspur. Swarghat is only 1.5 hours away from Chandigarh. It reduces the distance of Chandigarh to Manali travel which is extremely tiring. It has HP Tourism cottages costing approx. 1200-1400/room. Ample parking space. Booking can be done by our contact in Manali (Mr. Khemraj Thakur).

                            01 June Day 4 - Chandigarh - Manali (284 kms)
We spoke with Mr. Khemraj Thakur who owns Mountain Expedition Camping Site at Prini village (7 km from Manali). He will make arrangements in Swarghat & Jispa. The site offers tents @ around Rs.250/ person /night. It has constructed toilets, hot & cold water, buffet arrangements etc. I have tentatively booked for 8 persons.

                            FUEL:
                            • M/s Anant Service Station Swarghat, Ph: 01978-84037 Facilities - First aid, water, toilets, puncture repair and adjoining restaurant.
                            • Sukumar Service Station (IO), Raghunathpur, Dist. Bilaspur. Ph: 01978-22278. Facilities Drinking water, toilets, adjoining dhaba and first aid
                            • Vishwa Service Station (IBP), Mandi-Kullu road, Panera Ph: 01905-87251. Facilities Provision stores, STD booth and toilets.

                            FOOD:
                            • Himachal Tourism’s Hill Top Hotel Swarghat, just after toll collection booth. The tea here really wakes you up and the breakfast is not bad either. Cornflakes and cheese omlettes are definite favourites.
                            • Cafe Lake View,Bilaspur. Good views over the lake to help you digest the south Indian fare.

02 June Day 5 – Manali - Darcha (118 kms) Manali, Vashist, Tandi
Travel is Manali – 80 km - Keylong – 27 km Jispa – 10 km – Darcha. Darcha has only tent accommodation. All biking groups stay in Darcha. However, he has suggested to stay in Jispa. Proper hotel accommodation with toilet facility Rs.1200/night/room.

                            FUEL:
                            • Manali Filling Station Behind Tibetan market. Facilities Puncture repair, lubes and petrol given in jerry cans.
                            • Lahaul Potato Growers Society Petrol Pump, Tandi Facilities Just petrol and limited amount of lubes. Last filling station for the 365km till Leh.

                            FOOD:
Teahouses Jispa — basic fare of biscuits, tea and omlettes. Don’t experiment with food here and stick to snacks like biscuits or dal and roti. The altitude ahead might give you nausea and a queasy stomach is something you don’t need.

03 June Day 6 – Darcha - Sarchu (115 kms) No petrol pumps enroute
Sarchu is HP border and is costly. He has suggested staying in Pang. It is a bigger town and cheaper. Only tent/hut accommodation but 25-30 huts are there.

                            04 June Day 7 - Sarchu - Leh (260 kms) Karu, Leh
We spoke with Mr. Afzal who owns a hotel in Leh. His own hotel is in main market and does not have safe parking. He will arrange for our accommodation in some other hotel or guest house. He will also arrange accommodation at Hunder/Diskit.

                            FUEL:
                            • Ladakh Filling Station Near Government Hospital, Old Leh Road. Facilities Petrol, diesel, lubes.

                            05 June Day 8 – Leh : Permits n stuff, Chill-out Leh
Mr. Afzal will arrange for our permits to Khardung La. When we spoke, the network was not good so will speak with him again. We need to send him our documents earlier through courier/person (I have such a person going to Leh earlier). He will arrange for the permits @ Rs.100/head (approx) extra. So we need not worry about getting permits on time. They will be ready by the time we reach Leh. Permit room – Ibex is open throughout the year.

                            06 June Day 9 - Leh - Khardung La - Hunder (120 kms) Leh
Mr. Afzal has recommended night stay at Diskit. It is 6 km before Hunder and bigger town having hotels and tents both. He will book accommodation for us.

                            07 June Day 10 - Hunder - Sumur - Khardung La - Leh (165 kms) Leh

08 June Day 11 - Leh - Chang La - Pangong Tso (155 kms) Leh, Karu
Accommodation on lake side is extremely expensive. My friend takes his group @7 am from Leh and returns around 6 pm after spending 3 hours at lake. However, I do not know whether this is feasible on a bike.

09 June Day 12 – Pangong Tso - Marsimik La - Chang La - Leh (155 kms) Karu, Leh

                            10 June Day 13 – Leh - Drass (260 kms) Leh, Kargil
My friend will be in drass in the first week of June so will book hotel for us.

                            11 June Day 14 - Drass - Gulmarg - Srinagar (141 kms) Srinagar
Shrinagar shikara accommodation Rs.1500/person/night including all meals. Hotels as per choice.

                            12 June Day 15 - Srinagar - Amritsar (454 kms)
I am thinking of skipping from Jammu on this day. Trying to find a train back from Jammu itself. Have already seen Amritsar and don’t want to ride in hot weather.

                            13 June Day 16 - Amritsar - Wagah - Amritsar
                            14 June Day 17 - Amritsar - Delhi (470 kms)
15 June Day 18 - Off to Mumbai
                            16 June Day 19 - reach Mumbai
                            17 June Day 20 - Buffer day
                            18 June Day 21 - Buffer day
