Congrats Vishwas; i am still asking the same question; can i take my ninja to the top

Since, you have been there now, can you please shed some light on this. What would have happened, if would have gone there on your ninja?

Yes, you can surely take your ninja to Khardung La. Honestly, for us guys, it is an exotic location but for localites, it is just another road. In fact, road passing through Khardung La is a lifeline to Siachen Glacier, Hunder, Diskit etc. So if you can ride your bike where a loaded truck can go, you can take your ninja.

Ground clearance etc. does not really matter. The main chellenge is the seating position. Sitting on a ninja for 6-8 hours a day on broken / no roads will be extremely painful. Ask Aman - he was riding a R15 and he was the slowest in most of the sectors. Not because he is a slow rider but just because he was riding a bike not meant for those road conditions.

Also chances of falling down on black ice are extremely high so you must be ready to change at least one side fairing costing 10k.

If it is ok with you, you can surely take your ninja to Leh.

                Day 2 : 1 June 2010

Got down at Nizamuddin station trying to find paaji with fuel for the bike only to find that he had sent me a sms @ 2.45 am telling me to co-ordinate with Rudra since he knows the whole plan. Had to get delivery of the bike all the while carrying saddle bag, sack, tank bag and all riding gear. Pushed the bike out of station for 2 km for finding the nearest petrol pump. Called up Rudra and met him on Noida bypass. I asked him about the day’s riding plan. He showed me a sms from paaji telling him to come a particular place. We both called Inder again asking him about the plan. He told us to come to Gazipur.

                Beginning of journey --

I don’t know much about Delhi but could see from the map that Gazipur dosen’t fall on the road to Chandigad but since paaji was not willing to share the plan, we rode to Gazipur. Even after reaching Gazipur, paaji sent Shaan, a fellow xBhpian to bring us to his house. I did not understand why paaji was staying with someone when he had his own house in Delhi. His house is max. 15 min from Nizamuddin station. The reason I found out later…

Once we reached Shaan’s house, Inder came out and went to find a mochi since his shoe was biting on one foot. Now this bugger has had these shoes for last 6+ months and he finds time only when we are actually moving out on a ride. After that, he wanted to get his RVM fixed so Pratik and shaan took us to a mechanic. All the while, I was getting more and more pissed off. Here I am without even a drop of coffee/breakfast in the morning when this guy is moving at glacial speed doing things which he should have done at least a month back. Rudra was also in the same condition. We both had some fruits I had saved from day before’s lunch. Here Inder informed us that Mumbai gang has reached Delhi early morning on the same day and would rest, get bikes serviced and leave in the late evening.

Pratik & Shaan accompanied us till beginning of highway. Thanks guys for all the support. As we suspected, going directly from Nizamuddin would have been nearer but paaji had to make us ride 40 odd km just so that he dosen’t have to ride out earlier. Finally at 11 am we started our journey. Day’s agenda – Reach Pathankot.

Again the glacial pace of paaji continued even on a 6 lane highway which is arrow straight. Later we found out that nothing can change this pace either in riding or doing anything else. Me & Rudra can no way be called rippers but doing 80kmph on Delhi Chandigad highway is not considered fast.

We stopped at a dhaba for breakfast at noon in a town called Rasoi near Sonipat. Inder called up Mumbai gang and updated them about our location.

At the first toll booth, we waited nearly 15 minutes for paaji to reach. He was pissed off with both of us for going too fast. Later we had a heart to heart talk about riding a bit faster so we can actually reach our day’s destination – Pathankot.

It was extremely, supremely hot in the day and we were drinking water at every possible time. Still by the evening, no one felt like pissing. All the water was evaporating through sweat.

We crossed, Ambala, Ludhiana, Jalandhar. On my insistence, we stopped at Monte Carlo factory store to find some bargains.

But the bargains were only for winter wear. Since Pune dosen’t have much winter, we declined after using their wash room, drinking cold water etc.

By the time we reached Jalandar, it was night and now paaji started leading the group at 80+ speed. This guy who doesn’t cross 60 in broad daylight, was doing 80 on Jalandhar – Pathankot highway. The road was super smooth 4 laner with divider. Later tests proved that paaji has some owl genes so that he can see beter in the night than in day. Other line of reasoning is that since he can’t see in the night, he is less afraid of riding.

Just around 60 km from Pathankot, rain gods got angry and a thunderstorm started. We decided to end our day without reaching our objective (not a good start for the ride) and found a marriage hall cum hotel. The watchman charged us 750 bucks for the room and then tried to charge extra for extra bedding etc. but being with paaji gave us extra strength and we successfully fought to win.

If you are taking another bike, I would suggest that you should borrow a friend's bike from delhi itself. Rented bulls are notorious for breaking down. With a friend's bike, you can take proper precaution of getting it serviced etc.

Also riding it from Delhi will familiarise you with the bike.

That's such a absurd reason, and I don't think Vishwas got his Ninja for a trip like this!

Hello vishwas sir, Felt nice to finally start reading what i couldnt finish listening to on that night.

P.S.: I think, on day 2, you rode to Ghaziabad (not Ghazipur) because thats what you told @ BK G2G. And we didn't get to the reason why Inder was in Ghaziabad and not in Delhi that night.(which you came to know later but never came around to telling us, or maybe I left before you could come back to that point).
