This was a first ever ride for all of us and what's the harm in everyone carrying maps? eg. I found out that me and rudra unnecessarily travelled 40 km on the first day of the journey by looking at the map itself.Originally posted by BOOO View Post

I need not tell/mention that..everyone here goes by the "Literal word" and understand/interprets in the same manner. You very well the state of Pune/Mumbai thread.Originally posted by trustvishwas View PostAlso try to understand that this is not a Phd project. This is light reading and should be taken lightly.

Diversion Ahead
Diversion Ahead
Here I would like to diverge from the triplog to discuss about mismatch between Mumbai & Pune group. There has been a lot of speculation about split in the ride group and would like to clarify here.
Initially I had serious apprehensions about the compatibility of both the groups and I had voiced it several times. However, as the time for ride approached, everything appeared normal.
2 days before the Mumbai group was supposed to ride out, there was massive confusion about the meeting point and dates. Inder had posted revised plan (after confirmation about closure of manali route) well in advance but it seems that still there was a lot of confusion. Ultimately a compromise was worked out where we will ride out from delhi on the morning of 1st June and Mumbai group in the evening. Meeting point was pathankot. I think everyone agreed to it.
So we all rode out from delhi in the early morning by 11 am (detailed reasoning given earlier) and Inder called up Mumbai gang from a town called Rasoi before Sonipat. There a bomb exploded under his chair when he came to know that Mumbai riders will be going to Amritsar first. I think this was the first time Inder or me heard about Amritsar plan.
We kept updating our status. Satyen also tried to push both groups together. In fact, we wasted one whole day playing TOURIST..TOURIST in Srinagar waiting for the guys to reach. However, they reached after 1 in the night when we were scheduled to move out at 6 in the morning. I honestly don’t know why it takes so much time to ride from Madhopur to Srinagar but they must be having their own reasons.
Please note that AT NO POINT ANY KIND OF FIGHTING, BICKERING ETC. HAPPENED. Only thing that happened was both the groups had different agenda and they rode accordingly.Last edited by trustvishwas; 06-23-2010, 01:53 PM.Never argue with an idiot. Tourist in Srinagar
Day 4 : 3 June 2010 - Tourist in Srinagar
Today was a leisure day for us. We had planned on not riding further so the Mumbai team could catch up with us and we all together can move forward together. Mighty Zozila was ahead of us and since none of us had done any mountain riding before, Satyen suggested and we agreed that we should all ride together.
In the morning, Rudra found out that bullet’s battery had discharged so checked and found that the it had gone dead. Inspite of searching around, bullet bikes were not available in Srinagar. Till the end of journey, he could not buy a new battery anywhere. We all got our bike chains oiled. Me & Rudra also found time to get a head & neck massage.
So we decided to play tourist for the day. Got up late and went to Dal Lake. Hired a shikara and rode to Char Chinar. It is an island inside Dal Lake and originally had 4 large chinar trees. Now it has only 3. There is a piddly restaurant in a houseboat there but we needed a destination for shikara ride.

Chaar Chinar -

Enquired with shikara driver about one of the best gardens we could see in Srinagar. He told us to go to Pari Mahal. Pari Mahal was built by Dara Shukoh and has 6 terraces.
View from Pari Mahal --

One of the highlights of the day was watching a helicopter landing.... now you would ask what's great in that. This time, we were standing higher than the helicopter so were watching the landing from top. We could again see that at Vaishnodevi.

In the evening, met Pandit family (broken down scorpio). They proposed to carry out luggage till Leh. We readily agreed since we would be free from all saddle bags, sacks and will be carrying just the tank bags.
Also in the evening, paaji went with a local person (I had coerced in accompanying) to buy woolen scarves for all of us but ended up buying only one for himself saying that only one was available in the store. But to his credit, he did buy woolen caps for all of us.
The day ended with anxiety about Mumbai groups’ non arrival. Finally we all slept. Sometime after 1 am, Inder got a call from one of Mumbai guys and he went to show them the way to the hotel.Last edited by trustvishwas; 06-23-2010, 10:28 AM.Never argue with an idiot.
