I think we went to Gazipur which is on the way to Gaziabad. All I know is that we went inside UP limits. May be prateek can help us out by telling us where we actually went.

Yes they came to U.P via Ghazipur
Our(me and shan's) home comes under sahibabad which 7-8kms from East Delhi border.

And why paaji was not staying in Delhi will come later

              Pathankot to Srinagar

              Day 3 : 2 June 2010

Today the agenda was to reach Srinagar by evening. We started @ 6 am. Since we had stayed at a marriage hall cum hotel, there was no breakfast facility so started biking. Enroute crossed into Himachal Pradesh twice. It was funny to see petrol pump boards claiming xxx rupees cheaper than Punjab & xxx rupees than Kashmir. Stopped at a dhaba before Pathankot for breakfast.

After breakfast, paaji suddenly hit upon an idea of filling fuel. I pointed out that we should fill up at Jammu since we had more than half in tank but he somehow took a liking to the pathankot pump and we filled up fuel there. Paaji however failed to indicate / inform / convey to Rudra about our fuel stop and Rudra rode on unaware about our stop. We lost him for the whole stretch till Jammu town.

He arrived at his usual pace. We indicated him to continue on. This scene happened so many times during the ride, it is not even funny. I know the importance of riding as a group but if a member is riding at 50 kmph on a 6 lane arrow straight highway, it is extremely difficult to keep him in site.

He came & went ahead -

After that, we stopped just after patni top for a late lunch. Absolute pathetic hotel. Had more staff to entice customers than the kitchen & serving staff combined together.

              A hydel project enroute -

We found this homeless destitute on roadside. We took him with us tn the ride to Leh but ........

Just before Jawahar tunnel, encountered a broken down MH04 Scorpio with ladies sitting inside. Took a U turn and enquired whether they required any help. Father and son had gone to get a tow truck for the car since Mahindra mechanic was unable to repair it on the spot. Gave them my number if they required any help and pushed off.

Rode on towards Jawahar tunnel. This was an engineering marvel when it was built in 1956. It is 2.6 km long. When built, it was the longest in Asia. Immediately after Jawahar tunnel, we got the first glimpse of Kashmir Valley. The point is called as Titanic View point but since no one was willing to pose in titanic fashion with paaji, he was sorely disappointed.

              View from Titanic Point -

The road from Qazigund till Srinagar is absolutely beauty. Not a single pot hole in site. Crossed several cricket bat factories enroute. Kashmiri Willow is renowned for cricket bats.

By the time we reached Srinagar in the evening, it had started raining. However, we were lucky to find a hotel in Rajbag area @ Rs.600 for 3 persons. The hotel is completely carpeted and all rooms have attached toilet baths and TV. On the day we arrived, it had rained heavily in Srinagar and the entrance to the hotel was filled with water. So kept bikes in a nearby farm and walked into the hotel.

Entrance to our hotel in Jannat -

              Hotel details :

              Hotel peace Palace

              Rajbag, Near Zero bridge, Srinagar
              Owner - Irfan 9205312364
Double room Rs.400, triple accommodation Rs.600.

Late in the night, got a call from the family with scorpio. It was Pandit family in that car. They had got their car towed to Srinagar but were unable to find a reasonably priced hotel. Spoke with our hotel owner and arranged them for a reasonably priced hotel.

Through out the ride, I was carrying Ramky’s maps and found them to be mostly correct and more than sufficient for our needs. I have said I was carrying because other members of our group, being senior, experienced riders, did not require them.

We found this homeless destitute on roadside. We took him with us tn the ride to Leh but ........

I know the importance of riding as a group but if a member is riding at 50 kmph on a 6 lane arrow straight highway, it is extremely difficult to keep him in site.

. As soon as we entered Kashmir, paaji’s phone stopped working. He was fuming seeing each Aircel board. I had told time and again that prepaid phones don’t work in Kashmir but he did not want to carry a live connection with him. Reason for this ? later …

Here I am without even a drop of coffee/breakfast in the morning when this guy is moving at glacial speed doing things which he should have done at least a month back.

I did not understand why paaji was staying with someone when he had his own house in Delhi. His house is max. 15 min from Nizamuddin station. The reason I found out later…

Later we found out that nothing can change this pace either in riding or doing anything else. Me & Rudra can no way be called rippers but doing 80kmph on Delhi Chandigad highway is not considered fast.

At the first toll booth, we waited nearly 15 minutes for paaji to reach. He was pissed off with both of us for going too fast. Later we had a heart to heart talk about riding a bit faster so we can actually reach our day’s destination – Pathankot

Later tests proved that paaji has some owl genes so that he can see beter in the night than in day. Other line of reasoning is that since he can’t see in the night, he is less afraid of riding.

I did not have kashif’s number at that time and this senior bugger called up kashif in front of me and booked his luggage for Leh ride. Then I decided to keep quite about my plans and not to leak anything to paaji.

Hey vishwas you were the one and only in the entire pune gang who was well prepared in advance without having any good touring experience, hey thats really great .

by the way many reasons are pending with regards to inders mobile and other things

The lines is bold are not acceptable Vishwas! That is no way to talk on a public forum. I guess it was already decided who was going to carry what..!! And as per that Aman was to get the maps.

..and Aman had the maps. And they are just maps, no harm in carrying your own copies. Nothing to get offended on.

If this statement is offending, I will remove it immediately. But is it true? Don't you think that each one should carry necessary maps, addresses, phone numbers etc. with self?

Also try to understand that this is not a Phd project. This is light reading and should be taken lightly.

On the other hand. all the maps that we were carrying were mostly not useful. We never heard of "Shyok" before reaching Leh. Mr. Dawa (Tours and travels guy who arrenged our permits) gave us a lot of gyan about the local routes and the shyok route. Talking to local guys helped us a lot more than looking into the maps. especially the innova/scorpio drivers.
