As I have been reiterating on this thread - Don't be too concerned with road status or blocked passes. Its always doable and roads are getting better every passing year.
And come what may, don't miss the Leh manali section. Its whats the journey is all about.

Bro, there's no need to change the stock tyres of R15, roads are in good in shape. I have just finished my leh ride on R15,though I wasn't on stock rear tyre but I don't think there will be any issues in riding with stock tyres. All the very best for your ride :thumbup::thumbup:

Am kind of new to xbhp forum and am from bangalore.

-Well am planning for leh ride all the way from bangalore,just wanted to know few information bout the road conditions right now (I mean after the floods in surrounding area's).

-And is it safe to ride in this situation?

-And I just wana know any1 planning for a month ride from bangalore - leh by road over here so that we can plan it in 2014 June as solo will be preety boring nd security issue cmes in place aswell.

In my route chart to leh , from 8th to 18th august, i had plans for crossing rohtang pass on 9th. can people advise about the recent ordinance of getting passes for crossing rohtang from 6 to 11 am. Also 9th being ID holiday, how to get the passes before hand. 10th is saturday and 11th sunday..

Get in touch with your hotel at Leh. Some of them used to get passes for guests (not sure they do these days..)
Send them your ID Proof, vehicle details, quantum of stay, places you will be visiting etc... They may be able to arrange passes before hand.

Back home after getting Leh'd on my Apache..

Rohtang after initial few kms was just slush and traffic.. Roads after Rohtang were beautiful.. In good condition except for some patches in between..

Baralach la was closed for a day due to snowfall.. But the wait was worth it.. We got loads of fresh snow the next day when we crossed it..

Road after Baralach la towards Sarchu and Pang was also good, only the few kms towards Pang after Lachulung la were in a bad state..

Moore plains i was able to touch 100.. The climb to tanglang la is bit tough.. The road work is going on and all i got was gravel and loose stones.. The road will be completed in a short period..

The descent from Tanglang la and all the way to Leh, freshly laid tarmac... Butter smooth..

Khardung la road was average.. Frankly, i did not feel a thing while riding to K-top.. Didn't feel i was riding on the world's highest motorable road.. :P

The roads from Leh to Srinagar and all the way to Delhi are all in good condition..

Agreed on the weather part.. I met a couple of guys who did Khardung la through snow few days ago..

The chandratal road is expected to be open on 14th of this month. I'm updating this on request by our fellow member Jamaica. He couldn't do it himself as he is on to the road opening exercise
