in any train you book the bikes and you people can board the same train(preferred) or fly down to Delhi.

that is too Start from chennai , since we have trains from chennai to jammu and chandigarh. (Information is from my friend , hope he is correct.)
and airfare is also cheaper from Chennai.

Planning a trip to leh

Hello everyone I'm from Dehradun.
I'm planning a trip to LEH in July end. Is anyone interested to join me as I don't prefer solo riding,love to travel in a group.
Recently, I told my plan to some of my local friends,but after hearing A Trip To LEH, they started giving me weird expressions...they were like ON A BIKE?..are you insane or what..

Secondly, this question is for Gurus out there,
which route shoud I take
1. manali-leh
2. chandigard-srinagar-leh

please help me

The bike I ride is registered on my brother's name..

So for getting the permits from Leh, do I need to carry any other documents than my driving license? Do I need any documents from my brother?

Not required. Any 1 of your ID proofs will do.

You could take any of the rotue depending on the time you have. You could do

chandigarh - Jammu - Srinagar - Leh - Around Leh (Khardunga la, Nubra, Pangong) - Manali - Chandigarh

Or else you could just do the two routes suggested by you and take the same for return. All depends on the time you have.

Still i would recommend you go to thru Srinagar to enjoy the sheer beauty of the valley.

Can anyone throw some light on the Kargil - Zanskar route via rangdum..
Where exactly do we get to see the "drang drung" glacier?

Google maps shows Kargil - Rangdum as 127 km.. If Rangdum is the last point, then is 127+127 = 254 km possible in a single day?

Or any other options are also welcome..

You can easily take your brother's bike there.
Just carry the original documents of the bike along with you.
For the permits, just carry your license(mandatory) and any other valid proof like pancard/voter id card/passport.
Always you should keep 2 valid proofs.
Before going there take a printout of the Application form which you will submitt at Leh DC office, and after getting the permits take around 20 photocopies to keep it handy to give all the checkpost encountered in the route.

Buddy keep this thread checked regularly and club along with people who are riding at that time of year when you have planned. Happiness from riding solo is beyond explanation, but it would be good for you to enjoy with fellow riders.
Regarding the route take the Chandigarh Srinagar leh route.
There are 2 reasons for this:
1) One you will enjoy this routes beauty like anything, its far more than imagination and would love to ascend this route.
2) It would be easy for you to avoid AMS while ascending through this route as in the Manali Leh route one easily gets AMS(not everyone but there are more chances).

NOTE: a bridge between Pang and Sarchu in Manali leh Highway is no more and a temporary bridge is built there but its not safe and capable to hold for long. BRO is building the bridge and they will complete it soon.
So everyone do keep a note of this.
