Hello Guys,
I'm Siddhesh from Mumbai. Even I have dreamt of riding to Leh-Ladakh for a while now. I have a pulsar 220. Even I'm gunning for it this year. The point here is:-

1) July-August is the best time to go there ; thats what i have heard and read so far.
2) Even i'm planning to ride from Chandigadh or Delhi ; depending on the circumstances.
3) Even I'm looking for a company to ride along this terrian.

So guys , lets plan something concrete if possible. I also need to apply for the leaves in advance

2) Have you people already booked the train tickets for the same.

Are you from mumbai ? if yes , then where in mumbai ?

Have some body senior done the ride in August , my plan is from 15 th aug to 01 sep
Delhi-Jammu-Srinagar- kargil-leh-manali- Chandigarh- delhi
Difficulties which I may face during the ride..
I have read the MAX article of getting leh'd , and doing the preparation according to that

The leh marathon by Kurtrules started on 31st August.



My ride started two weeks earlier.

We faced radically different conditions in the same month.
The point is, while August will be rainy - more often than not - its not a detriment to riding. You might just be rewarded with an incredibly beautiful ride(generally, harder the ride, more beautiful it tends to be). If you do plan to go in August, its imperative that you check your luggage setup for leaks and protection from rain. Most saddle bags, jackets and riding pants are water resistant only - not water proof. You might also want to check if with prolonged exposure to rain water, will your luggage be dry (Ours wasn't on a prep ride, so we took everything in plastic bags inside the saddle bag)
Also, avoid being around the Srinagar circuit (jawahar tunnel to ganderbal) on 14th and 15th August.

Edit: Saw your travel date. I would suggest, start a day later (16th August) so that you know if there is some problem in the valley. If there is one, go from the Manali side. All you would need is a overload of diamox

Thanks Mik it is very advisable to keep the rain wear, planning to buty a riding pants.

Tso kar

Hi,

Tso kar is just some 20 odd km from the Manali-Leh highway and it seems that it can be a nice detour on the way.. Some questions..

1. Is it possible to stay near the lake? Any tents or similar arrangement available?

2. Do I need permits to visit tso kar too? Since I am going to Leh from Manali, it wont be possible to get the permits from Leh and come back just for it..

The images of the lake on google are beautiful and considering its just 20 km off the road, it will be worth it..
Any more information about Tso kar is also welcome

13th Aug-Train journey from Mumbai to Delhi from Garib rath.(tickets Booked)
14th Aug- Checking all detais and bikes for ride.
15th Aug -Journey start. (Journey details are attched in image)
1st Sep-Journey end_train back to Mumbai.
Check the details and your requirements.... we can meet up at some weekend ride and decide about the journey if you want to join us.

Happy for you to join us... Answers to your questions:

1) Can you please tell me how many bikers are there in your group for Leh Tour. The group is building. We are currently 4 people on for this. One of the riders joins us from Ahm in Delhi/Jammu itself. In all probability we will start from Delhi and ride to Leh and end at Jammu.

2) Have you people already booked the train tickets for the same. - Yes. We have have. Reaching Delhi on 13th July as planned in my iterinary. I have biked to Leh before and I know its going to be Epic. According to me, anytime between July & Aug is good... The Leh Manali hway is open and most roads are worked upon!
