Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Passport is not needed for Indian citizens. DL etc are fine.
Carry a bungee net since its more useful than a cord - specially if you are carrying something like jerrycan/helmet/bag on the pillion seat.
ATMs are no longer a worry in Leh. Woolen gloves ( the 250Rs variety with fur inside - leather like texture outside) are much more effective than the normal riding gloves if riding in bitter cold. Also, if your riding glove gets wet or soiled - you have a backup - so it makes sense to carry the woolen gloves.
Toilet paper roll is very useful to carry around - for obvious reasons. In emergency situations you might have to do it the American way
My co-rider left his mark in Zanskar and on tanglangla of all places :P A swiss knife or its cheap chinese knockoff is useful too. If one is going in a group -- generally it makes sense for the slowest guy or the guy at the back to carry stuff like foot pump and puncture repair kit. Do check your sensitivity to Diamox - not everyone can have it. I am allergic too - hence had a torrid time in Sarchu.

Thanks alot Mik, didn't thought about toilet paper roll till today morning (visiting bathroom often today
)
My stint in Spiti regarding money has left me with no other option than carrying 70% cash with me.
Regarding jerry can, we are carrying those big 2 ltr bottle (2-3 bottles per rider) which would go in the saddle bag pocket but still will update the list, riders can decide accordingly.
Diamox - I would ask riders to check with your doctors whether you can take it or not and any alternate for that.Fare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Jerry can was in reference to the bungee net being more effective than cords. For most bikes, a standard karu to tandi run (around 340km) won't require a fuel refill. Just some backup will be good in a 2 ltr bottle. If one is using cramster saddle bags, the space between the inner flap and the outer flap of the bags is an excellent space to carry the 2 liter bottles. All you need to do is tightly close the clasps.Originally posted by prateek2210 View PostRegarding jerry can, we are carrying those big 2 ltr bottle (2-3 bottles per rider) which would go in the saddle bag pocket but still will update the list, riders can decide accordingly.

@ankit mishra : Yeah lets meet someday and we can plan. Will PM you when I am coming to dhabha
@Mik : Yeah most of us are getting Cramster Colt. And we are getting petrol wherever we see a bunk (except the one in Leh, will prefer the one on Airport Road). And if you are saying a single bottle would be enough, let me discuss with my co-riders regarding this.Fare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Like a lot of people, I too have been planning Leh-Ladakh for sometime now. Hopefully will do it this year!
Am in two minds for a lot of things, should I do it early when the season starts in May/June or wait until September?
Anyway, anyone else planning from Hyderabad??Keep Calm and Continue Riding!

Re: Getting Leh'ed - 2014 Planner
Hey Vasu, We do have a couple of people joining us from Chennai. They will be sending the bikes via train and either they catch a flight or travel in the same train and reach Delhi. Same for the return journeyOriginally posted by Vasushines View PostHi,

riding the bike all the way would be fun, however the thing to watch out for is your health. It might make you tired for the Leh ride. So think twice before you make up your decision.

You can transport your bike by train or by private transporters.Originally posted by Vasushines View PostHi, I would like to join with you guys. I'm from Chennai and i ride Royal Enfield Bullet Std. Renting an unknown bike for a trip like Leh is not a good idea.
If you want to ride from Chennai itself, you can also do that. But if thats too much, transport the bike till Jammu/Delhi and ride from there.
Ride safe and have fun.

Nadeem
