Howdy Buddy,

thanks for the inputs man , but after going through some real time discussion with couple of my colleagues and some senior members from xBhp
I have come on conclusion with this plan.

but i wont be able to stretch it long till august and September as i have some other commitments to cater.

I am also doing it Mumbai-Leh this year and starting on 14th/15th August, havent done it ever before but my two cents are based on the research that i've been doing for the last two years.. The original plan was last year you see, couldn't make it but.

You may want to research more and give it a rethink. Am sure experienced fellow xbhpians here will share their words of caution.

All the best! Ride safe.

Manna Chowdhury your plan needs some more work. You can make it to Rampur from Delhi comfortably.
But, traversing Rampur - Tabo - Kaza - Manali (not required in your case. You can drop anchor at Koksar) in 2 days will be very tough. Also, the Kunzum Pass opens normally after 15th June. Keep checking for updates on bcmtouring thread on the the kaza route.

Day wise, you might end up doing this
Delhi - Rampur - Tabo - Kaza - Koksar(if kunzum is open) - Sarchu - Leh - Leh - Nubra (wherever you wanna go upto) - Pangong Tso (which route?) - Sarchu - Manali -Delhi
That is 12 days. 2 days buffer.
14 days look good!

I crossed over Rohtang on 14th August, 2011 on a day when the Rohtang pass was partially closed. You could go through the first three days of the log to see what freak floods and rain can do to a trip.

While in 2012 in June, we had pristine weather and a cakewalk on the same stretch.

Point taken Mik. BTW read your log-entire not just the first the three days, and i must say you are a very good narrator. Please look at a career in writing as well. Superbly written and amazing pics. Can't wait to experience it personally.

• Leh trip itinerary help

Hi friends
I want your suggestions and help on leh trip itinerary. We will be two friends on different bikes. we want to do round trip through srinagar and come back via manali ie. amritsar-srinagar-leh-manali-amritsar. We will be doing it in relaxed manner. We want to complete it in 20 days but can extend for 3-4 days if needed. we want to start from 3rd June or 6th June
This is what I basically thought after going through various posts and masp:

3 June: Amritsar - Pathankot- Patintop
4 June: Patnitop - Pehalgam (As we want to Vsit Pehalgam for its beautiful scenery)
5 June: Pehalgam to Sri Nagar
6 June: Sringar Local sight seeing (but if we could not found anything interesting or situation is not good in srinagar then we will travel to sonmarg and spend a night there )
7 June: Srinagar or sonmarg - Kargil
8 June: Kargil - Lamayuru
9 June: Lamayuru - Guruduwara Pathar Sahib - Leh
10 June: Leh( Local Sight Seeing, permits and rest)
11 June: Leh - Khardungla - Nubra Valley
12 June: Nubra Valley - Khardungla - Leh
13 June: Leh - Pangang Tso
14 June: Pangang Tso - Leh
15 June: Leh - Tso Moriri, Tso Kar
16 June: Tso Kar - Leh
17 June: Leh Rest
18 June: Leh - Sarchu
19 June: Sarchu - Keylong
20 June: Keylong - Manali
21 June: Manali (Local and rest)
22 June: Manali - (We will leave from Manali but not decided which way we will come back, we will either go to shimla or whatever we will decide at that moment))

Now I am Confused: i.e We should take a days rest and goto Tso Moriri and from there we can proceed towards Sarchu, or We should come back to Leh and then have a rest day and then proceed toward Sarchu.
All suggestion are welcome we don't want to make the schedule tight infact it can be extended if needed(if there is more to see at a particular place).
Few more suggestion I want is:
1.What about the road conditions. is it good to start from 2,3 June or from 6 June(though there is difference of few days).
2. We want to carry a 2-3kg LPG Cylinder with us for our own occasional cooking at place of liking( Please don't say that it will be heave or something. We will manage to carry it. it is not a issue) Well what I want to know is Will we be restricted at any place by Army or Police due to this LPG cylinder. Because if that is the case we will discard the idea

No need to come back to Leh.Head towards Debring,Moorey planes,Pang and then Sarchu.Be sure to carry enough petrol to last 800 kms. However, petrol is available at Lower Sumdo in black rates.110 rs per litre.

Road conditions are mixed type, typical mountain roads but nothing to worry about.

No problem in carrying an LPG cylinder,It would be good idea if you conceal it in a thick cloth bag

IMHO, early June is the best time to start, as the melting period just starts. You MAY get to see good amount of snow with not much streams to cross. July onwards the water stream may increase due to the melting period.
My personal experience is in June & July. While in June, it was pretty good to cross rohtang & other passes, but lot of snow, snow storm & too much of chilling. While in July i faced lot of mud, slash, heavy water crossings.
But again, ladakh is one unpredictable place. Nothing can be forecasted & assumed. Just go & accept what the nature throws at you

Master ji, is petrol guaranteed here. As in, can one take the risk of not carrying extra
My current ride (the KitnaThirstyMachine 390) wants petrol every 220 km and I cannot afford a tanker as yet. Also, will have an Army guy riding with us. Any chance the army outposts there will be obliging.

Theres petrol also available in black at Pang in tents. I assume same should be the case with dharcha or sarchu. Ofcourse the rates will be quiet high but will be a savior.

Petrol is pretty much guaranteed in Sumdo ,Tangste and even tough the rate is high they don't adulterate much at least that's my experience.

Yeah, petrol availability en route can never be predicted but most of the time you would get the petrol,i strongly believe.

I was suitably humbled on many occasions when i felt I had 'conquered' or 'achieved' something.

2010 - Chitkul in early April : We reached chitkul and posed around feeling elated at having achieved something. Soon, we saw a group of bengali tourists (monkey caps and all) having a picnic there.
2011 - First leh ride. Going up Khardungla I was having the feeling of 'conquering' something. Hahh! a 70+ year old man was cycling all the way to the top. Came to know he had been cycling from Manali. Nope, didn't have the heart after that to pose with an X :P
2012 - Climbing up Chang La after visiting Pangong Tso on the CBR, I was feeling 'alone' and in a zen like mood. Then, I saw this guy on a Discover, with a big bedroll and a small pillion in tow, climbing up too. Rest assured, I felt very small at having thought that I was doing something 'interesting'.

And then we have many crazy tourers who are literally living on the road. Puts our little excursions into perspective.

Its a cycle all of us will go through. The first little ride to the commercialized hill station followed by tons of pointless pics and facebook updates (Orkut in my time :P). Then onto the 3/4 days 'big' rides and its stories of near death and non existent roads. Finally, the 'ride of a lifetime' basic Ladakh ride. But, those who will hold on to their love of motorcycles for a lifetime - will pass all these stages and truly immerse and surrender themselves to the beauty of nature.

A long way to go! Not enough office leaves
