Re: Ladakh Planner 2016

So here's the 1st entry of pune residents..

around 4 people from Pune are planning a ride to Leh almost on the same itenerary as shakti. Plans are to start from Pune on 27th May. We Load our bikes (600cc-800cc Class bikes) via Agarwal Couriers and Fly to Chandigarh. (Like nagoo pointed out, Delhi will only increase the number of days with nothing worthwhile happening... Also All of us have already stayed in Delhi so makes more sense to skip it) So If in case anyone else wants to co-ordinate with us from Pune and join us please get in touch with me.

Accomadations and other important details will be discussed and planned out according to what the majority wants.
1999-2001 HH Street ES (SOLD)
2001-2008 Bajaj Pulsar 150 (1st Generation) (SOLD)
2010- Present Bajaj Pulsar 220 F
2015- Present Benelli TNT 600GT
2015- Present KTM RC 390
2016- Present Honda CB1000R

Hello All,

It is great to see many of fellow XBHPians are planning too.

However can anyone has links to get the details of the road permit through Rothang Pass.

Shakti's plan seems OK for me too.
shakti,
May I request you to share yo plan so that it can help many of us.

Cheers,

What details you require ?

And Since, i don't have to worry about office leaves much. I might do Andaman to Ladakh via Kanyakumari

Tentative Plan

Starting Point:
Chidiyatapu, South Andaman or Indira Point, Great Nicobar (Southern Tip of India)

Bike will arrive in Ship (TCI maybe) and I will take a Flight

Day 1: Chennai - Madurai (462kms)
Day 2: Madurai -Kanyakumari (245Kms)
Day 3: Kanyakumari- Kochi (305 Kms)
Day 4: Kochi - Munnar (130Kms)
Day 5: Munnar - Mysore (391 Kms)
Day 6: Mysore - Bengaluru (145kms) : The Infosys fellows will join hopefully or from Chandigarh
Day 7: Bengaluru - Hyderabad (569 Kms)
Day 8: Hyderabad - Nagpur (500kms)
Day 9: Nagpur - Jhansi (595 Kms)
Day 10: Jhansi -Agra (234 Kms)
Day 11: Agra - Chandigarh (459Kms)

Might do it in less days depending on fatigue

From Chandigarh same as the earlier plan.

Which Touring Operator/Company?

Hi,

Planning to finally visit Leh-Ladakh in July 2016. Wanted to know the forum's view on choosing a good tour operator for the trip as this will the first time I will be going there.

Thanks,

* Put in some time to visit interesting places in the cities you visit.
* Also suggest you build in some buffer for unexpected things.

If anyone who has done the Ladakh trip in recent 2015, can help me in a better way on this. If it is closed, which is the itinerary that you would suggest.

2. Is it allowed just to go through the Rohtang pass and not do a picnic over there and return to Manali ?

Please let me know you thoughts on the same.

I would happy to know if the Rohtang pass will be open 2016 ride. Fingers crossed
In 2015, they allowed crossing over with a permit. Also remember that the regulations kept changing based on Green Tribunal decision and court orders. So best is wait and watch. It is almost 5-6months till the pass opens, so situation on ground is likely to change.
Other option is to go via Srinagar/kargil. Last year there were no restrictions crossing Rohtang in the other directions.

planning for 15 days , why fly back from Leh,coz we can save few days which i can spend in mountains
Though your signature says "Nothing is Impossible", this is pretty hectic schedule (Chandigarh - Badrinath - Spiti - Leh in 15 days). Suggest you add more days or cover less places.

This ride is solely for being close to nature not for man's creation. Ya, Will do that, that's just a tentative plan might just munch more miles in a day depending on the scenario and buffer days include the short rides. will decide on the road.

Bro, there is some issue going on with local tour operator, i think they don't allow tour operators from other places (cars as well). don't know about current status.

I visited leh this year. Took taxi's from Jammu- Srinagar (Rs 750), stayed a week in Kashmir & Lolab Valley, Srinagar- Kargil (800) and then Kargil to Leh (1200) in local taxi's that operate en route. (Local taxi's include Xylo, Scorpio and Tavera)

Who ever is planning to visit. Please make sure, not to make leh dirty, you may find many place dirty over there, plastic bags thrown carelessly, but be a resposible rider or resposible tourist and make sure, not to pollute environment from your side atleast. It may be a small step, but it will make a huge difference if everyone follow.

Frankly, there is no need to go through a touring company. All you need for your trip is a sane head, adequate riding gear, a non problematic bike and enough petrol. Help is available almost everywhere and June is a pretty busy time. People tend to be very friendly in that region :-)
And yes, everyone has a first time. Take it easy. Roads are mostly good on the Delhi - Srinagar - Leh section (only Zozila has bad roads) and on Leh - Manali section things are getting better each year. You will find accomodation at many places.

I mean no disrespect or anything, but I do not wish to travel on my own as I do not know how to do basic repairs, have never been to that part of India (permits and all that etc...) and would much rather prefer travelling with a group through a touring company for peace of mind.

Please let me know if the previously mentioned companies are trust-worthy or recommend any other ones I have not mentioned.
