Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
thank you again for the reply. Yes, I have read about local taxi union in ladakh region for cars rented from outside. Local taxi union doesnt allow rented taxi (fom outside Leh) to go for sight seeing in ladakh region. But I thought that was for "cars" didnt know same thing would happen with rented bikes. Also Now I am thinking of changing plans a little bit. I am thinking of going to Srinagar by flight and then take rental bike (if it is available).Originally posted by Mik View PostDo check if you can get a zma in chandigarh. Also, there was some trouble in Leh last year with rented bikes. The local association wanted people to use their bikes for sojourns from Leh in case of non Ladakh rented bikes.
August is a beautiful time to go, though a bit wet and treacherous on the leh-manali section. Accomodation will be reasonably easy to come by.
No water crossing on the srinagar leh section. However, things can get slushy near Zozila with very minor streams. Don't worry too much about water crossings. They look much more dangerous in videos than in reality :-)
Plan is being changed as I am assuming that there is not much to see on Chandigarh to srinagar highway plus starting from srinagar will help me cut out few no. of days on the trip.
Edit: Yes remted bike from outside Leh are not allowed for sight seeing else than Tso Mori. Here is a link I read. http://devilonwheels.com/5-tips-to-r...in-leh-ladakh/Last edited by sauravalwaysurs; 04-25-2016, 02:41 PM.

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Hello guys,
Can anyone confirm whether or not we can transport our bikes from Mumbai to Jammu by train as a luggage?
Me and my friend are planning to start our journey from Jammu if possible, otherwise Amritsar is the only option.

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Don't know about mumbai to jammu, but I had enquired about pune to jammu and yes its possible. I hope by luggage you mean to transport your bike in the same train and same date you are traveling. But on a note of caution, I was advised to ship a day or two in advance as a parcel.Originally posted by k.sagar View PostHello guys,

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Rented bike from Srinagar (assuming it is available) will most probably meet the same fate in Leh. For Pangong and Nubra, the association will insist on local bikes. However, since you are going in August, I doubt there will be much problem as its not really the tourist season. Most people come in June.Originally posted by sauravalwaysurs View Postthank you again for the reply. Yes, I have read about local taxi union in ladakh region for cars rented from outside. While till Udhampur there is not much to see on the CHD - SRI highway, you get patnitop, the beauty of banihal and the jawahar tunnel, the first view of kashmir etc. Bike it as much as possible.
On a different note, why do you want to go this way. Take the Manali - Leh road via your zma/rented bike from Chandigarh . Thats where the real adventure and the rawness of ladakh lies :-)

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Can anyone suggest a short itinerary which can cover most of the beautiful part of Leh and around in 8 days without a rush? The starting point is Delhi and I don't mind coming back from plains to save the time. I think going from Manali and returning from J&K would be the best option?KTM RC390 - Current

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Hello, Thanks again for reply. As per the things I have read on net, they all point that Srinagar Leh road is better in every aspect like road surface, slow increase in altitude which helps in aclimatisation, availability of fuel pumps. So this is why I am considering Srinagar Leh highway. Please tell me more about Leh Manali highway. I may take that route if it isn't much difficult. Actually I am bit concerned about AMS as I have never faced that situation.Originally posted by Mik View PostRented bike from Srinagar (assuming it is available) will most probably meet the same fate in Leh. And yes you are right bikes/cars rented from Srinagar will meet same fate in Leh and I will have to hire local bikes/cars from Leh. I am willing to start journey from Srinagar as it will let me save a few days. As asking for 15 days holiday can be considered as crime in boss's eye.

Re: Ladakh Planner 2016
Both roads have different kinds of adventures and shouldn't be missed. However, the Srinagar - LEh road, except for some stretches near Zozila, is one beautifully laid piece of tarmac. The sense of raw adventures is nowhere there. The Leh Manali section is the road where you get the real deal. It is a crime to not traverse that road!!Originally posted by sauravalwaysurs View PostHello, Thanks again for reply. Yes, AMS can be a factor if you start from Manali side. However, with enough stops, gradual increase in height and the right amount of fluids it can be countered. Thousands and thousands of people traverse the road every year and its only getting easier and easier with some beautiful road being built. Don't miss it for the world!
15 days are more than enough to do the whole Delhi-Sri-Leh-Pangong-Manali-Delhi stretch.
Here is a very simple and standard itinerary.
Dli-patnitop-srinagar-lamayuru-leh-Khardungla and back to leh-Pangong-Leh/Upshi-Pang/Sarchu-Keylong/Koksar/Manali-Chandigarh/Delhi.
Take buffer of 2/3 days on this and you are done.
Don't over think it. The roads are only getting better. With a sane head and proper safety gear, there is nothing difficult about the journey.Last edited by Mik; 05-05-2016, 09:31 PM.

No.This tunnel is two way.Originally posted by vrnmhjn View PostHello All,
Just want to know, Is the traffic through Jawahar Tunnel routed on alternate days? Like from Jammu to Srinagar one day and Vice versa?
No traffic regulation unless there is some trouble in one of the tunnels.
