Riding to Kashmir>Ladakh>Manali in July

A friend and I are riding to Kashmir ,Ladakh and Manali from the 9th -24th of July. Posted below is our rough itinerary:
July 8 - Fly to Delhi
July 9- New Delhi to PathankotJuly 10 - Pathankot - SrinagarJuly 11 - SrinagarJuly 12 - Srinagar - KargilJuly 13 - Kargil - Leh July 14 - LehJuly 15 - Leh - TurtukJuly 16 - Turtuk - LehJuly 17 - Leh - SpangmikJuly 18 - Spangmik - Tso MoririJuly 19 - Tso Moriri - Pang/SarchuJuly 20 - Sarchu - ManaliJuly 21 - ManaliJuly 22 - Manali - ChandigarhJuly 23 - Chandigarh - Delhi

Please let me know if you can provide some answers to the questions below:

1. Is there any security and safety issue in two riders/solo rider riding in Kashmir(Jammu-Srinagar>Kargil?

2. Are there issues in taking rented bikes from Delhi to the entire above itinerary route? We heard that bikes rented from outside Ladakh are being stopped in places around Ladakh. How real and big is the risk of taking a bike from Delhi? We are ok to rent a new bike at Leh for riding around in Ladakh but will need to take the original rented bike(Delhi one) back on our return route. Leh>Manali>Delhi. Please let us know if this is advisable. If not what are the alternatives?

3. Apart from medicines(including altitude sickness meds), spares,tyre puncture repair kit, extra fuel is there something we need to especially consider for a ride to Ladakh?

Dear Riders,

I would be riding to Leh from Delhi (July 17th, 2016) via Amritsar, Srinagar. I would also be visiting the Nubra valley and returning to Delhi via Manali on Jul30th, 2016 (Tentatively) Would be transporting my bike from Karnataka.
If anyone's interested to join during these dates, do get in touch. Currently its just me doing the ride as my friends had to postpone the trip to next year.

Present Situation in Srinagar

Hi All,

I am planning for a road trip from Delhi to Leh and back.
All set to go. But heard that there is a section 144 near Srinagar.

Could anyone please let me know which way would be better to take to reach Leh safely?

Do wee ought to get a permit to cross Rohtang pass on a motorcycle??

If yes, how can I get a permit in advance. Moreover, is there in any time limit to cross Rohtang La, means, can I cross Rohtang La at night too.

bike ride on harley davidson street 750 on manali leh highway

I am planning a bike trip with some of my friends by one harley davidson street 750, RE thunderbird 350, bajaj avenger 150, and a Scorpio 4 wheel drive.

I just want to know:

1) whether harley davidson street 750 is ok on this route seeking the low ground clearance, availability of maintenance in case of any issue.

2) on part of low ground clearance, I have heard that a steal metal plate can be fixed below the chest of the bike.

3) on part of maintenance issue, I will try to learn some basic repairment from the mechanic, like fixing puncture, clutch wire, accelerator wire etc.

4) I have seen some videos on YouTube wherein, some nallah is passing by on the road. In such a situation it may be impossible to ride the bike by applying full clutch pull-release. And the harley guys was telling that if half clutch is applied then it may damage the clutch plates of the bike. How to deal in such a situation on harley Street 750? Crossing the nallah without damaging clutch plates.

Please do reply and advise as I don't want to take a rented bike at khardungla pass and other locations. I want my own bike to the destination and back with my bike riding home. I want to ride manali leh highway only as srinagar leh highway might not be safe seeking the disturbance faced due to one terrorist country in that region.

Suggestion on Ladakh trip from Mumbai

Hello Riders,

I am planning to ride from Mumbai to Ladakh with my friends. Can anyone suggest me about such long ride?
Guidance would be very helpful in planning and taking care of small things and what are the available options
I owned Yamaha FZS, bought 3 years back and completed 40,000 kilo meters till date.

Just to make it clear, guidance in context to like road map, initial preparation, basic things to take care, prior booking, places where halt can be taken, best places to visit during the trip, which are good things to buy from there and more would be very helpful.

Hey dude,

Your timing is little late, I would say Nov is not the month to visit Leh on a bike/Car. The complete region start getting snow from end/mid of Oct and roads also gets close due to snow, BRO and gov vehicle stop their services and Leh face a complete cut down from rest of the world by road. So better you plan for next season.

Ladakh season by road is not advisable such late.
Please do some R&D for next year ride.
