NH 66 is narrow and has good amount of traffic. Roads are not good but also not worst (Atleast from Allepey to Kozhikode).

          • Ride from Hyderabad to Ooty

Hello XBhp. Me along with a friend are planning on a 4 day trip starting 1st June to Ooty from Hyderabad on a Duke 200 and a Dominar 400. We are taking a camping tent and some minimum hiking gear along with us. We are in need of route conditions, possible camp sites near places like Nandi hills and any other things in general that we need to know about. You can also suggest if there are any places like Coorg that are possible to squeeze in the trip.

As you might know, Hyderabad-Bangalore highway is absolute bliss. You're in for a good ride further as well, because Bangalore to ooty has some fantastic roads as well. There was a bad stretch from Mysore-Gundlupet until some time ago, but that has been converted into absolute butter- thanks to recent elections in that area. Further to gundlupet, single lane, but passing through Bandipur and hairpin roads via masinagudi right until OOty will amaze you. Only part of worry is Bangalore-Mysore highway, which has good roads, but is almost always crowded with people moving around and medium to heavy traffic. Control your speeds here.

Also, don't plan to enter bangalore in the evenings, specially on weekends - you'll face bad and heavy traffic, specially from mysore side.
I am not aware of the places where you can place a tent near Nandi hill, I think it is prohibited to go there at night as well. Again, I am not sure of this info. Happy riding !

How are the road conditions from Madurai to Dhanushkodi / Rameshwaram? Any hills along the way?

                    Hello Akshay,

You can visit Sirumalai. It is very close to Madurai. check the route on Google maps, because it is not easy to describe it.

update on Salem to Coimbatore road:

There are lot of intersections in this way. I do regular rides on this route. In recent times I have seen a lot of accidents in recent times. Please slow down when you see the intersections, because the people who crosses the highway or the pedestrians do not care if they see the bikes. They just think we ride on a average speed. So it is better for us to slow down.
Especially in the places like Bhavani, Perundurai highway intersections. I have seen some close calls.

                    Take care

Bangalore to Coorg - The roads are in excellent condition ,only problem of traffic in Bangalore - Mysore during peak hours but not a problem for bikes i think. what route are you taking from coorg to Ooty -if it is Mysore route -it was in good condition. Generally for your trip it is mostly highways and you should not have any problems on an R15.

in 2 Bikes we are planning the bike ride from chennai to Goa.
We are not interested in going via the familiar Vellore-Hosur-Bangalore route. We plan to take the Andhra route. Google maps suggested one and i have altered and prepared another route. Can you please suggest which would be better and also about the road conditions. Our trip will start at the early hours (2 or 3 am)

                              Both around 920 kms.

Route 1 (Google suggested route) - Traveling time as per google is 19 and half hours

                              Go via Tirupathi - Pileru - Rayachoty - Kadiri - Anantapur - Ballari - Hosopete - Koppal - Gadag - Hubballi - Dharwad - Mollem - Ponda - Panjim

Route 2 - Traveling time as per google maps is 18 hours.

                              Go via Tirupathi - Pileru - Angallu - Gorantla - Pavagada - Challakere - Davangere - Haveri - Hubballi - Dharwad - Mollem - Ponda - Panjim
                              Rajesh Ravi

Hero Hunk - 2014 to till date.

I am planning to go to mysore from Hyderabad, which route to take?

Google is suggesting to go via Ballari but heard the roads are not good.

Friend asked me to touch bangalore and then go to mysore.

So any idea how the ballari route is?
