  • I have did a 450KM ride from Hyderabad to my hometown Rajahmundry via NH9. Road conditions are really pathetic lot of diversions because of ongoing road extension works. Road is really dangerous for night riding. You can expect a huge traffic jam for one to two hours.

    • Best possible route from Bangalore to Udupi please. Not too much of a photographer or anything but believes in covering distance in shortest time as possible.

Appreciate any help with the best route to choose and road conditions. peace

If you're going via Bellary, you have to touch Hospet & the Bellary - Hospet stretch has been in hopeless condition for ages... Blame it on mining lords , not sure about the current condition though... 3rd route mentioned by you is the actual route to Hospet.

                  Take this route

                  Whitefield - Tumkur - Hiriyur - Challkere - Bellary - Hampi

There is a train crossing few kms before Bellary where you need to take a turn. This is on the left of the Bangalore-Hiriyur highway which you normally would take if you have to go into Bellary. Take the left and continue into NH63. This will take you all the way to Hospet.
Again you don't need to go the whole distance. There is a deviation (right turn into an arch) which will take you through Daroji reserve, Kamalapur to Hampi. This is the best route for me to ride (have been there 3 times using different routes). Sadly I dont remember the name of this village where you find this arch (I guess its Kudatini) and its easy to miss unless you don't ask the villagers around. Anyway ask for it and you should be alright
The road conditions inside this smaller route are quite ok and it passes next to Jungle Lodges resort as well.

And for the best Hampi like stay experiences, go straight into the town and ask for guest rooms/home stay. These are rooms rented by people there it will allow you to mix around with them. Should cost you from 400-1000 based on type of room and season.

Apart from a bit of traffic in Hosur, Blore-Salem(NH7) is a breeze , excellent roads.

Bangalore to coimbatore has many routes, most used ones are:
1.Blore-Hosur-Mettur-Bhavani-Coimbatore: Roads excellent till Thoppur.Need to take right turn towards Mettur Dam and proceed towards bhavani and Annur. Single lanes till Bhavani. Avinashi road one needs to be extremly careful, Single lanes with trucks playing NFS

2.Bangalore-Hosur-Dharmapuri-Salem-Sankari-Avinashi : Fastest route from Blore to Coimbatore.Ultra smooth roads till Avinashi.

3.Blore-Kanakpura-Kollegal-sathyamangalam-Annur/Metupalayam-Coimbatore : Single lanes for most part of the route, more scenic than the above routes

4.Blore-Mysore-Ooty-Coonoor/Kotagiri-Metupalayam-Coimbatore : Most scenic of all the routes : Except for high traffic density for the last 50 odd kms, this is the most preferred route if you want to have a bit of Nature blessing your way.

Note : There are reports that Coimbatore -Avinashi road is being upgraded. Would let the coimbatore guys post the lastest state of that stretch.
                      Stories of the open road...........

I second that..its the most scenic yet most slow route

Before 2 months the Coimbatore -Avinashi road was under construction with a lot of dust and deviations.
