@Kurt: Pang: Vomit heaven, plz put some light on it. Anyways thanks for the info.

@Rachit: Even am not 100% in right now, its 79% still Tied up with many issues, same like the new flat n all

@Ketan: Kyu Winzee ki baja raha hai, wo gussa ho gaya toh ride hi cancel karna padega

@Biru, Inder: start dividing (My guess is, in the end there will be only one group of 5 leaving from Mumbai)

I wont suggest August, as there is a big risk because of rains, landslides & Heavy thunderstorms, and not to mention the Crosswinds, will be very powerful around that time.
                THINK AGAIN

Most people here from Mumbai are planning to go in June 1st week or mid june max.

                    The plan looks good..!
Am not sure if Shimla-Rohtang can be done in a day. It would be too much of a heck AFAIK. Remember, you will be ONLY riding in mountains for around 300kms or more. So mind it. Rather leave for Rohtang from Manali early morning & then you can take a halt for the night at Darcha. Otherwise the rest things OK. May be other guys around Himalayas can suggest much better routes.

Also even I am sure, in August you will find lots & lots of water crossing & quiet a less amount of snow. Its a good season for health. I mean no much chilling climates you will face. AFAIK, even the coldest places will have barely any ice (Baralacha La, Khardungla, etc)
So re-think about it. If you want to see amazing amount of snow, mid or start June is best.

                    • @ Vikas: as stated by Rachit, Shimla-Rohtang is not so very easy to do in a day.

Not talking about the distance though, its the terrain that is worth mentioning. Not to forget that the Kunzum Pass wont be an easy task either way. Try to see the latest thread by Old Fox, will tell you something about the terrain.

                      • Although I cannot see the itenarary as the link is banned in office, I can comment on Shimla-Rohtang. DCS mentioned Kunzum, so I am assuming that you plan to get to Rohtang from Shimla via Spiti in a day? If that is what your plan is, then let me say that it is not only difficult, it is NOT possible to do Shimla - Kaza - Rohtang is less than 24 hours, even if you ride for all of those 24 hours!

Now, to get to Rohtang from Shimla, there are 3 other routes: All of them are doable in a day. Vikas, let me know if you need more info

                          • Guys, my leaves for May-Jun are cancelled... as my boss is doing his road trip to kerala!

Does that mean I am not going to leh? - No!

That just means that I have to replan the trip now! I intend to ride from Mumbai\Pune so do let me know your views on when should I be doing this.

My original plan was to do
                            Mumbai - Mt Abu,
                            Mt Abu - Jaipur,
                            Jaipur - Delhi,
                            Delhi - Shimla,
                            Shimla - Rohtang,

There on copy some of your plans...

                                Thanks HydBiker!

@Vikas: Seeing your plan, I would say yes, you can get to rohtang from Shimla in a day. The shortest route would be via Bilaspur and it would take 10 hrs and the longest one would be via the Jalori pass taking anywhere between 13-14 hours.

But my question is why do you want to stay in Rohtang. I would advise staying in Manali and then continue your ride the next day from there.

So your itenarary would look like:

                                Shimla - Manali
                                Manali - Keylong
                                Keylong - Pang
                                Pang - Leh

Since you would be accustomed to the high altitude (a night in keylong), staying in Pang would not cause much problems.
