Both plans are equally good in their own way. But yes in Birus plan it has Shimla & yours dont have as you intend to spend days in Leh & around, which is a good option.
Am just concern about the initial two days in your plan, as you have to cover a real long distance. The roads are do doubt state of the art. Make sure you get atleast enough sleep. Its good to complete a major distance in first two days if done.
In your plan Amritsar is there, whereas in Beru's its not there.
If you wish to see some places in Amritsar like (Wagah Border, Golden Temple - Day/Night view, Jallianwalla Bagh) then you may need to spend one full day. They are absolutely worth it. Also, while returning we didnt go to Delhi, we bypassed it. Entered punjab & rode through it. Then reached Godhra, Gujurat. By passing Ahmedabad. Courtesy : Gopi's N95 GPS.

EDIT : Spidy, why dont you stay in Drass, than in Kargil. While on the way to Drass, you will come across Kargil War Memorial, where you can pay your tributes. And Drass is the second Coolest Inhabitant Place in the World. There you have J&K government guest house to stay.

The end part will be improvised on the ride itself & it looks better to bypass Delhi.
As we have 2 buffer days, we can utilise one to stay at amritsar n see Wagah n Golden temple, etc.
Shimla can be visited anytime & is easily accessible, but we dont know when we'll ride to Leh next. As you are getting married this year, I'll get married in 2012 and so on. Thats why am keen on roaming in & around Leh-Ladakh as much as i can, now.
          Still, which one you suggest?

EDIT: Drass is 270 from Leh & Kargil is 201kms. Is it doable easily? And COOLEST as in thanda ya english wala kool?

YEs yes, its easily doable. Infact Leh to Kargil, there are some worst terrains & some really superb roads with awesome twisties, GP style. Its english wala kool..!! Really.. nice climate out there & you will have another tag "Stayed at 2nd coldest Inhabitant place in the world"

All the best about your fiance. Leh is superb for couples too IMO

                      • hi every one long time i have been out of the forums...
this leh planning got me interested once again
But after reading all the pages i see that there is strict requirement of SPECIFICATIONS that one tourer must match to go for this ride with you.

well i have ridden max of 680 kms in a day, depending on the road condition if its a butter smooth highway then i ride at 100+ or else in a highway with traffic i keep it around 70-75. i hope some of you people remember me.

Just tell me if i can tag along with u guys....

and dates are not a problem for me...
