Buddy, before you change the oil change your mechanic.

Car oil is in 5L and 1l pack because of only one reason.. not all car engines are same. Not everybody will buy two 5l pack when his car's engine require 6.5l of oil. There are many other packs available.

Get any good 4t oil in 10w40 Grade and you would be just fine.

Motul I haven't used but Shell Advance is one good oil that I use for my bike and really love it. . .

Don't use it, best is use Shell Advance AX7 for your bike, that'd be perfect and that's what I am using on my Unicorn from quite some time and really happy with it. . . @sinnerz2000 is 20w50 not recommended for unicorn . . . I was thinking of trying out the fully synthetic of shell, which is I think 15w50, so what do you suggest. . ?

        Cheers!!!
Using xxW50 oil on a unicorn will choke it, that grade is only recommended for mostly pulsars, Yamaha's and other high CC bikes. On our bike use one of the grades I mentioned in my previous post. And also I don't think a FS oil is needed on a unicorn, instead try Motul 5100SS to compare it with the shell ax7.

Yup I have read them and I too had a query regarding this which were clarified by the fellow bikers here and I am satisfied with it. . . In my opinion, it's best to use a recommended bike's oil for the bike, . . I got got an explanation for this but sorry not able to find out the page, . . . Even I was also recommended by my friend who is using car oil for his bike, shell Helix, they don't listen and I don't speak much and also at the Shell fuel station where I get my engine oil changed, they too said the same thing, no wrong in using car oil for bikes sir, but still I think I am very satisfied with it. . . Why don't you first try out with Shell or Motul and then go with it, it's very good and you'll love them and will only use them. . . That's it, rest all choice is up to you. . .

@sinnerz2000 you are right about that, cos our bike's engine is already butter smooth and yup using the said grade on my bike only, will try out with Motul as you mentioned above, will stick to it if I find it really good or else back to Shell. . .

          Cheers!!!

To differentiate between a car engine oil and motorcycle engine oil, look at the back of the cover and find "JASO MA" written on it. If it has JASO registration, it is a motorcycle engine oil. All motorcycle engine oil will be JASO registered.

API + JASO = Motorcycle oil.

I don't keep a count of it, I do it once in two months or if I ride less then once in three months. . . The interval quoted by the Fuel station guy was 3500-4000kms. . .

It's self-explanatory. Decarbonization is the process of removing the carbon deposits deposited by the combustion that's happening inside your engine. Think of it as this, you see exhaust as black sooty stuff, the same happens inside the valves, so they need cleaning. And it depends on a lot of factors, good quality fuel, engine oil, etc. A good idea would be to decarbonize every 35k to 40k KMS *accordingly*

Decarbonizing is done when the performance is affected negatively and not to be messed with everytime, as it's a time consuming process and requires a good know-how to do them correctly by the mechanic side.

So unless it's really really needed, it's not significant as such.

                      Cheers!

                      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

The most common method used by our mechanics is they heat the exhaust from outside until the deposits inside loosen up to powdery state after which they keep tapping it. All the deposits would fall out. The biggest disadvantage is few cut open the bottle for this and due to continuous exposure to high temperatures the chrome plating of exhaust might appear faded.

Another method used is fill the exhaust with solvent such as diesel/petrol/kerosene, let it soak for sometime depending on the condition. Repeat it one more time and then drop in few balls from bearings and rattle the exhaust until the deposits are scrapped off the walls by the balls. This method is not in practice as it is a tiresome process.

Exhaust decarb must be done professionally with require chemicals, with which they are soaked and then rinsed off and then they come out as new and then reocoated with chromium. My best buddy mechanic, even though I say advice him this isn't the way you're supposed to clean, he just laughs and shrugs off. Just so you know how he cleans.

He removes the silencer, doesn't heat as such (which is the procedure required) takes his long star screw driver, and starts pumping in out and out for close to 45 minutes. I used to observe all these things, and I can see lumps of carbon especially on those two strokes silencers or any silencer for that matter drop to ground and he's done. But according to them that's cheap and easy. And some use solvents and shake them up, rinse and then use. ut do we have any other solutions!! Jugaad works to an extent.
