Lots of it here in Bombay. Its semi synthetic though.

                • yes, i am settling for a semi synthetic now. The reason is there is no company in India that i know of ( a reputed one) that sells mineral 10w-40 ... for motorcycles.. with proper high performance use....

If you had told me earlier, I could have shown your bro where to buy it from. You should just stock up on an entire carton of it.

                    • drunken 250ml engine oil!

Off late I found my bike engine has got a bit harsh ride and too much when it gets hotter
when I checked oil level, it was below required level mark.
So I went to service center there I told the guy to just top it up, just make sure how much it drunk oil. It was came to know that it has drunk 250ml oil so I kept that oil only to see whether it doing same thing again, service center guys told “bring it after 500-700km we will check it”. and with that oil it has done around 2000km only.
And guys don’t told tell me to see oil leakages or white or blue smoke, there is no visual attention to carry over. And one more thing I don’t rip and rev like most of you do, its only 100cc (hh passion) there is no much to do with it and in this summer frankly I didn’t cross 60km/h. (till date it has done 31k)
my prime suspect is 10w30 which is used by hh guys only from last 6-8 months or may be more for other big svc.
I just want to know from oil gurus here that a oil with 10w30 used instead of previously mentioned 20w40 at a certain or above 100c, is any chance oil getting evaporated.
                      thanks

                      • ^^^ Rather than the viscosity, I'd seriously suspect the "genunineness" of the oil used by the service centre.

Are they using it from drums? Who is the Manufacturer?

                        • Engine oil for Bullet

Hi i need to change an engine oil in my bullet. Right now my Bullet has completed 1000 kms. Service centre guys use velvoline. RE manual says we need to use 20W50 engine oil. Could you please suggest me an engine. Till 3000 kms i will change an engine oil at the interval of every 500 kms. So i require mineral oil not synthetic or semi-synthetic.

Service centres guys are using Velvoline. Is this good engine or should i use any other engine oil?

How is servo and castrol GTX?

I use Castrol GTX in my car. Is this the same oil i need to use in my Bullet? How do we differentiate between car and bike engine oil since Castrol GTX can be used in both bikes and cars?

                          P.S. I have Bullet standard (4 gears).

                          Please advice.

                          Thanks in advance.

                          • What makes you say GTX can be used both in cars and bikes??

Valvoline is supposed to be good, but I belive its semi-synth. You may not want to use that in the running in period.

Other options for you are Petronas and MAK. You may get Servo in that grade too. Petronas seems to have the best reviews.

To put it v simply, you can just check on the label to see if its a bike oil or car oil.

Because of its grade i.e. 20W50. I use it in my car and i have seen lot of bulleteers have been using GTX.

Petronas i think it is synthetic oil. Or which brand in Petronas should i go for? (Please keep in mind i need to change it every 500kms).

Bike's usually use a wet-clutch system wherein the engine oil is present in the crankcase.

Cars on the other usually use a dry clutch system, where the gear box and clutch are not immersed in the engine oil

Car engine oils have friction modifiers which when used on a bike can and will cause clutch slippage.

Hence it is not recommended using Car engine oils for bikes!
