Any review about the oil though ??
I found shell mineral oil to be pretty awesome, is shell semi synthetic the best in SS oil range ??
Yup! Dude it's much better than mineral oil and just costs 60 bucks more that the best mineral oil in the market. I used it in pulsar and the bike was smooth and was also heating less and superb ride in city and heavy traffic condition.

      Oh, thats nice.

I was confused between shell advance vsx and motul 5100,
since shell is much cheaper guess i'll go for shell only

      THanks for the review dude.

      • which is the best engine oil for pulsar 150 DTS-i. company specifies SAE 20W40, API SG, JASO MA.

i have observed that most of the oils now are API SL, if i want an oil as good as castrol power 1 and it should still be API SG, what are the options.

how is "shell advance s 4T".

              • Am I too late!

Just a few quick questions from the experienced clan. I would really appreciate precise answers and useful suggestions....Sorry if it has been talked about. I don't have guts to search this thread if this query has already been discussed.
I own P220dts-i, 4500kms clocked so far. Used Speed since day1. Have followed the running-in period like nobody else, quite religiously. Have couple of issues but wanna put only engine oil queries here.

                > First oil change: MAK4T @650kms during first service @PBK from their stock

                > Second oil change: Castrol GTX20W50 recommended by a Castrol authorized dealer as I couldn't find API SL with JASO MA (my biggest blunder ever, which I ofcse realized later) @2200kms on my own just after a couple of days of 2nd service.

                > Third oil change: Castrol ActiveXtra 20W50 @ 3900kms just before the third service was due.
What concerns me here is that when I drained the oil during 2nd and the 3rd change it was as thin as water. Oil seemed to have lost its viscosity all the way. Also the oil level drops all of a sudden i.e. it was almost empty @ 550kms & 3600kms.

? Does that make any sense?

? Is the engine heating too much?

? Have I caused any damage to my machine unknowingly by putting in Castrol GTX as I have noticed that after around 3400kms when in any gear, I can listen to a constant grinding noise (started with a sound like of a buzzing bee) which intensifies when revved up in higher gears? Though there is no grinding noise in idling. This grinding noise keeps on becoming louder or fainter according to the gears I shift into. Higher the gear, louder it is. What it could be as when told to the PBK guy, he checked it and found the engine clean with no apparent issues whatsoever. This is what I am concerned about a lot. That's why I changed to ActivXtra and drained the GTX thinking it might have caused the issue.

? I never saw the PBK guys cleaning or changing oil filter during the first service or oil change. Is that necessary for my machine?

? I never did the engine flush when switching to ActivXtra. Enlighten me on that too plz.

                ?

                Waiting for informative suggestions...

are u getting the grinding noise even now after changing to castrol activ xtra??if so then get ur clutch plates and gear box checked from PBK but dont tell them u used catsrol GTX.it will void ur warranty.if there is no problem then dont worry.continue with activ xtra but change it every 1000 kms because it loses its viscosity soon.if u want to give the best to ur bike then get motul 300v.costs 895 rs a lite and easily lasts for 5000 kms.fully synthetic.yea using car engine oil was a big mistake but if there is no problem now dont worry about it.engine oil filter clean is not necessary at every service....so dont worry

                    • Better avoid Castrol stuffs. They are good for HH only, not for Bajaj bikes. As for the good brands, you can find plenty of suggestions here on this thread.

Dude, I think, you have made a mess wit the clutch plates (technically, it is called friction plates) by using the car engine oil - castrol gtx. Probably you may have felt the loss of acceleration also at high rpm. But don't worry, your engine should be fine. Just check your clutch plates and change it if required.
Do not go for any engine flush now. Rather than doing something good, it can harm your engine - you can go for it after at least 30K - 35K km. But if you are using Fully Synthetic oil, then you may not require to flush the engine at all.
Please do not go for a Fully Synthetic oil right now, at least use mineral or semi synthetic oil for 5K km.
After riding 2000 km the mineral oil should be darker and thicker but the quantity should not be so less as you have mentioned. Please check the outer sides of the engine for any oil leakage and also see the bottom of the engine and check all the seals for any wet, dark oil spot. Check the exhaust for any white smoke at high rpm. But if you could not find the reason, please report this to your Service Center as soon as possible, because this problem can lead you to a nasty situation.
For oil filter change intervals, you can find the details in the service manual. I think it is 10000KM as per the service manual, but the local mechanic always recommend with confidence to change the oil filter while changing the Engine oil.
So, don't worry, your machine is just fine except the less engine Oil issue. Regular service from a good authorized service center with genuine spare parts ....... thats all your machine needs!!!!!
                        Move on.........

Please check the viscosity rating of the engine oil in your owners manual as I have seen many oil dealers and even the mechanics are ignorant about it. Stick to the recommended gread.

thanks i changed to Shell advance fast trac. Premium 4T mineral oil. 231 rupees.

i stick to 20w40 recommended by suzuki. bike is super smooth.

to be specific suzuki recommends SAE 20w40. I believe its a standard. and shell says "A premium mineral oil exceeding the requirements of international specification API - SL and meets JASO MA and all motorcycle manufacturers."
