Is 600 for the fully synthetic which is Shell Advance Ultra or Shell Adavance VSX4 ?Originally posted by madhav krishna View Posti have asked about it in a local shop. He was having a bottle of it & the mrp was around 600
If it is for Fully synthetic than it is a decent price.

yes it is for fully synthetic oil. Even the agip fully synthetic 5w-40 is being sold at 620 only & one of my colleague was getting it for 450 only.Originally posted by abhilashabhi12 View PostIs 600 for the fully synthetic which is Shell Advance Ultra or Shell Adavance VSX4 ?

actually you are wrong. There may be a premium in synthetic oils but these oils give a smooth ride. These oils can also be used for long periods say a 5000kms because these oils do not break down easily. So the synthetic oils are much better comparetively.Originally posted by FranklySpeaking View PostSynthetic may be better for the engine, but to what extent? Do the math before you spend 4-5 times the cost of mineral oil. IMHO, it is not a good idea to spend so much on oil when you can buy new engine/bike itself with the money that you will eventually save on synthetic oils over a period of time. But that is just me. You make a decision based on your need and the moolah that you have.
Apache is not a vintage bike or something that you wouldnt get piston rings/cylinder kit etc. over at least few years to come. So, just save money. Use mineral oil, change it at 2500 km instead of 3000km if that gives you some assurance. Or, just use synthetic if so you please.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

I am sorry. I still stand by what I said in my previous post.Originally posted by madhav krishna View Postactually you are wrong. Synthetic oils give a smooth ride? Can you please explain how you define a ride to be smooth? I am pretty confident that at least 99 out of 100 people would not be able to tell the oil in there unless they already know what is in. For the remaining 1 person, I would give the benefit of doubt.
Please post the facts/figures right here on this thread with a credible source, which says that synthetic oils are 'way better' than mineral oils so as to justify the price differential.
Like I said earlier, there may be marginal advantage, like longer drain intervals, better cold performance but that does not justify me spending 5 times the price of mineral oil.
I own a Pulsar [2003] and a Bullet Standard. Both have used minerals till date. No issues in any of the two. And regarding the Pulsar, I have ripped it to an extent beyond explainable. I have pulled wheelies slipping the clutch and did 400 km stretches in 6-7 hours flat with the speed being 80-100 throughout the ride. The engine has not been opened once. How much does a new bore-kit cost anyway?

i did not said that the mineral oils is a sheer waste bro. I said the synthetic oils have an advantage over the mineral oils. The mineral oils are extracted from crude oil(petroleum). These are thick uncombustible products with a slippery nature. The synthetic oils are synthesised (manufactured) using chemicals. The mineral oils are already made by nature & we are extracting it & adding a few more chemicals to it. While the synthetic oils are completely designed by the scientists in the lab. The synthetic oils are specifically designed to withstand the hard conditions in an engine where it is hard for mineral oil.I meant that the synthetic oil is hard to break down at very high temperatures also. The synthetic oil is made such that is has a more slippery nature than the mineral oil due to which it reduces the friction in engine & makes it smooth. The real effect of synthetic can be seen on a very long run. The synthetic oil also has a good circulation even in cold temperatures & it sticks to the engine walls also due to which the engine can be cold started without any hassles.Originally posted by FranklySpeaking View PostI am sorry. The example for this is when i had used a normal honda engine oil my dio the engine was running smooth but when i had used the castrol power 1(semi-synthetic) the engine has became uber smooth. Another example is when i had used agip synthetic oil in my yamaha gladiator the engine had become very smooth even at high rpms.NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

Shell SS cost me INR290 in chennai a month or so back. in fact just completed a highway trip of 250kms today - fully satisfied with the oil performance. Had the oil checked by a mechanic today too, and he said it was good for another 500kms.. 2000kms on a 290rs oil is not bad at all ! Castrol Power SS used to give up in 800-1000kms itself.Originally posted by abhilashabhi12 View PostThanks for the Info dude.
Btw can you tell me how much did it cost you ?
So, happy with shell SS experience, I have bought Shell FS oil for INR745 today for my next oil change. Shell attendant has promised drain period of 9000kms !!! Looking fwd to changing to this once my current oil is finished. Will update my experience here in due course..
Cheers !

It is good to have an end to journey towards; but it is the journey that matters in the end.

With loads of advices in this thread, I'm sharing my experience to add more value.
I'd been to the recent TSG2G from Chennai to Yercaud covering about 800+ Kms in two days & 400+ Kms one way on each day. The return leg from Salem to Krishnagiri, say about 110+ Kms ride was almost wide open throttle with about 2-3 breaks.
The ride from Krishnagiri to Vellore was done around 90ish speeds & the distance should've been around 130 Kms.
The ride from Vellore to Chennai around 130 Kms & the speed sorry that I cannot disclose, but to state the fact was trying hard to keep up to the pace of R15, RTR 160 Fi & FZ16.
All through the journey, the engine did not overheat & I kept checking due to my high speed riding. Engine oil used - Castrol CRB+Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Were you riding a truck or a bike?
Castrol CRB+ is a diesel engine oil . Do you want to kill your bike?
If you are really using it in your bike then I must say your bike is doomed!!!If you ride like there's no tomorrow, there won't be.

@Kalsi & @Happybiking - Pls look out for my posts in previous pages. My bike is RX (2 stroke) I'm forced to use such oils due to unavailability of good 2 stroke oils in this country due to Govt norms.
@Kalsi - If one doesn't uses the engine oil then the bike is doomed; My ride is still going strong.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle
