There are other brand too, you can go for Valvoline FS(xW50) also which is a good oil too and cheap when compared to Motul FS...
Now that's news to me. I was under the impression that yamahalube was nothing but motul oils that are re-branded and for some reason the motul oils last longer.

I havent heard about the valvoline oil, but will look into it. Also, I'm looking at semisynthetic oils right now, as I've just done about 3000 kms on my babe. Hence going for fully synthetic might be a little too soon for me.

Buddy i am not saying Motul FS 15W50 is a bad oil. i clearly means some oil types are not suitable for certain bikes which may be good for other bikes. My friend once used Motul FS 15W50 in his R15 and said the engine is over heating but the gear shifts and engine became smooth.
wait for other experts opinions also...

my SS deteriorates within 1000kms, haven't taken it more than that.

Will see what Motul can be used, I won't be using full synthetic, NEVER*.

*The 300V evaporated in My Karizma in mere 1500kms and the bike had become rough too by 1200-1300kms.

                      • One final query regarding Engine Oil for R15. My bike has done 6k and I m planning to change engine oil in next servicing. Which engine oil I should go for. Motul 5100T 15W50 or Motul 300V 15W50. Currently using Motul 300V 5W50 and never faced heating issue. Though downshift is still a pain.
                        (R15 manual says 20W40)

Yeah! The Yamalube SS sucks. Have been using it from past 4k Kms, & got it replaced just last weekend thinking I should give it another try; & a bad decision I'd say.
I'm moving to Motul SS next time. Guys having used both, say its better than Yamalube SS.
Can't wait to switch to Motul, but thats after I have done some mile muching with the Yamalube.

                          • synthetic oil should not be used unless your engine has done about 10,000 k. this is because the main purpose of oil is to create a seal between the piston and cylinder. in a new engine this seal is already tight due to nature of the engine (new )and normal mineral oil is always recommended to bed in the parts properly by any company.

now if synthetic oil is used in a new engine which has not run in properly with normal mineral oil lets say about 6000 to 10,000 kms minimum, the synthetic oil will create a seal so tight that the engine will not be able to run properly and will cause more damage than doing any good.

so please don't forget your engine's main part is the piston and cylinder and that's what is going to be affected. what you feel after using synthetic oil in a new engine like smoother gear, clutch, smooth feeling etc is due to the very property of the oil to protect metal to metal contact to the max, at the same time creating a very tight seal on the piston/cylinder there by proper bedding in of the engine is affected.

please think twice before you rush for that oil change esp for your new bike.

                            • @harikeshpk ... By synthetic oil you mean Fully Synthetic or Semi Synthetic or both. I have done 6k and during my first servicing itself Yamaha SVC guys asked me to try Semi Synthetic one. During second servicing I switched to 5W40 FS and repeated in 4th Servicing . Is 6k ok to continue FS oils or shall I switch to SS or mineral oil.

fully synthetic is what i meant. continue with semi synth now. u can swithch to full synth if u want after 10,000/-.

even mineral oil changed properly will give ur engine a life of over 1 lakh kms.
