Hydrocracked or hydroisomerized are group III based oil Castrol and Shell comes under this category. This is the highest level mineral base stocks which can perform much like polyalphaolefin (group IV) that in some countries, Group III base oil can be legally branded as Synthetic Oil, though in reality they are not.Originally posted by ksameer View Post

Replacing the piston ring is the permanent solution.Originally posted by Swaroopce View PostGuys , My bike is drinking oil , but at a very small rate(@ speeds above 70)....(Piston rings have to replaced) Which i will be doing after my exams get over next month....
Now , can anyone tell any options for :
1. To keep engine cooler ..
2. Not bothered abt smoothness but engine shd be cool....
3. Also , if i put thick oil , will the oil consumption reduces ?? Or shall i stick to mineral oil (as my bike is drinking) and change every 750kms ??
4. Currently using 15w40 oil castrol power 1 .
To keep the engine cool shd i use mineral/semi syn/ synthetic oil ??
If i use 20w50 , will it help ??
Whatever grade you guys suggest , pls also tell the brand and price..
Sorry for so many q's ... but its urgent.... Thanks ....
So till that time use mineral oil, inspect and top up with fresh oil when required.
Why mineral oil ?
Synthetic or semi-synthetic oil are more smother and synthetic is having long life than mineral oil, that doesn't mean it will keep the engine chiller, as your engine gets over heated due to the said problem.
So its wise to use the cheaper mineral oil as a work around for timebeing.
Do not change the engine oil grade as it will screwup your already injured engine faster than now.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

If shell is selling SS naming it as FS, then its a serious issue. Maybe next time i would switch to motul.Originally posted by madhav krishna View PostCheck the attachment for yourself.
It says that the oil is made from hydrotreated slack wax (group 3) & synthetic esters (group 5).
Am not able to find a data sheet for the castrol(It doesnt provide any) but it is a SS oil & not an FS.---------------------

Relax. Presently, all you need to do is nice and careful running in of the bike. And stick to the oil recommended by service guys, atleast till 3000 kms. Go for FS oil only after that.Originally posted by rylan View PostBought a new fz16 a week back. Could u please guide me thru the phase of changing the engine oil from mineral to fully synthetic. 2 or 3k is for runin but for switching to synthetic its better to wait till 5k , there are many mineral oils such as motul and gulf will give you a smooth rideOriginally posted by rylan View PostHi there, thanx for the reply.
