Been using it for over 1200 km in my CBZ Extreme. Performance is as good as new . You can go ahead and try it comfortably. But, if you've been using 15w50 or 20w40 grades, then you would find difference, as 10w40 heats up the engine faster than a 15w50 and 20w40. That would be a noticeable difference. I was using Motul 15w50 technosynthese earlier, shifted to Shell AX7 10w40 now (vsx has been renamed as AX7) . Happy with the change.

I've been told that the drain period is around 2500 km . If you don't rip much, you can go on till 3k km . But not really sure if the oil would hold good till then.

Yes that is a good choice to make i have been using it for more than 4000km still no issue same performance till now it has a good life of 6000km and also a tip please do not use any additive along with the oil you would loose the top end performance i did that mistake at first though after a submiting a performance report to shell they reverted back asking me not to use any additive with that. Rest assured about the oil its a prefect choice in semi-synthetic range.go for it

I read on this thread that this shell vsx 10w40 is not actually a semi synthetic oil but a highly refined mineral oil! Is this true?

                      • Shell VSX 10W30 is a mineral oil. I reckon 10W40 is of the same ilk.

                          • I was in a hurry and my oil is getting too old ( for me ) so I bought a bottle of motul 3000 4T Plus 20w40 mineral oil from the nearby motor-oil shop , instead of my trusty 20w40 yamalube . And yeah ,I am quite paranoid about fake oils in our market so I did call up the Motul regn sales manager to confirm that the dealer was indeed motul authorised for calcutta-south . The shop didn't have gulf/elf at that time .
This is what I found when I got home .

Same bottles - different label .

Same manufacturer name & address too !!!

So yamalube is 100% relabeled motul (not even rebottled ! ).
The oils have slightly different specs . Motul 3000 4T plus is 20w40 API-SM /JASO MA2 while the Yamalube is 20w40 API-SL/JASO MA . Motul is 200 Rs while yamalube 220 Rs , both 1 liter packs so I saved 20 bucks .

Ya even I was thinking the same. But on this thread only I have read that though shell says that this vsx(now ax7)10w40 is a semi synthetic oil, actually it isn't! Also a technical data sheet of this particular oil was given which proved that this isn't a semi synthetic oil but actually a highly refined mineral oil!
