  • I changed my oil for the very first time when my ODO was at 1400. That was late. I changed it to Motul 20W40 Mineral Oil.. Today ODO is at 4200, so should I now just refill or change it altogether?
And should I refill with same 20W40 or 20W50 since now the weather is Cool here in Mumbai?

I think you should change it completely...you have exhausted the 2.5k limit of mineral oil (being in Bombay it should be roughly odd 2K).....i suggest drain completely and fill up....

I believe you have a GS150 R....my suggestion stick to the grade mentioned in the manual....please do not change the grade because mumbai is cold now!!!!...your bike might face a serious damage or slow poisoning if the grade is change!!!!!

Already fed-up with PBK SVC guys for not tuning and servicing bike properly, anybody who knows good mech in Hyd - plz advice.
        Hi,
I have used Motul 300V FL FS oil for my FZ for 5000+ kms. I changed the oil recently with the same brand and type itself.
I decided to switch over to FS oil from mineral oil, because of engine vibrations. It was more of an experiment actually. It worked. Vibrations came down. I haven't had any issues with it. The only thing I had to do was idle the engine on the first start of the day for around 30 secs for the oil to circulate and for the engine to warm up. Synthetic oils should last for around 5k to 6k kms.
I really think you should give a piece of your mind to the svc people. And say that you will complain directly to Bajaj Auto. It has worked for me with Yamaha svc.
You could try Valvoline, Shell, Petronas Sprinta, Mobil 1 etc. I've heard Valvoline 4T Premium is a good one.
You could try any of the Castrol Bike Zones in Hyd for servicing your bike (if your bike is still in the warranty period, then servicing should be done at Bajaj service itself). I don't know about Castrol BZ quality now, as I left Hyd in 2009.
I am sure you won't have any major probs in finding a good mech in Hyd.

Also a technical data sheet of this particular oil was given which proved that this isn't a semi synthetic oil but actually a highly refined mineral oil!
My experience told me that Shell VSX 10W 40 SS oil is not good enough. There used to be a burnt smell from the engine when I was using Shell VSX.
I'm using Motul 300V FL FS oil now...

As stated earlier in this thread, Castrol being a famous brand has lots of fake engine oils going around.. You might want to cross reference if the dealer is authorized.

Castrol Power 1 Racing hasn't received good reviews from pulsar owners so you might wanna keep that in mind.

              • I own a 220F with 5300kms on it.

                Switched to Motul 5100 recently.
                Its performing well.

My only question is about the drain interval... I'll be going on a saddlesore this June so will be riding at 90+ throughout (with breaks of course). Normally i don't rip the engine and hardly ever go over 4000 rpm.

So is it safe to assume a drainage interval of at least 3000kms keeping in mind my saddlesore trip of 1600kms?

I saw Valvoline 4t Premium bottle packed in cardboard box, but it doesn't specify and rating, mechanic said its 10w30, is that true? Here is the image that i found from google, look closely its the exact same bottle that i saw, but it specify its rating as 20w50, thats the only difference

                    • hi xbhpians i have bought a new fzs it's been 5 months now the bike has done 1110 on odo 3 services done first oil change was on 96km,2nd drain was on 575,3rd drain on 962 i got the oil changed in front of me, the thing which is worrying me is the engine gets heated up a lot even though the oil is new wherein viscosity index will be at peak. when i went through the manual yamaha has clearly mentioned that a oil of sae20w40 or sae20w50, api service se,sf,sg type or higher jaso standard ma i did a lot of research on net for 2 days no joy
i am more confused as which which grade oil to use w40 or W50 n i'm not so keen using yamalube it's causes engine to overheat i overheard a conversation between a automobile engg n the yamaha service guy the automobile engg told that if they use company oil the magnetic coil will be screwed donno if that guy was an yamaha engg , and yamaha guys told that castrol is not recomended, when i was going through the net i came through an article in which it stated that if 20w50 oil is used the performance will reduce slighty is that true...? so do i need to stick to yamalube 20w40 or change to ny other 20w40 brand or to 20w50 which oil is good i like to stick with company recomendation which is either 20w40 or 20w50 n i use fz for long drives only n very rarely in city pls help

Since your bike is new you have to understand that the engine is over heating because of the new parts inside the engine rubbing against eachother. Intially there is a lot of friction which causes all that heat.

The running in period makes sure that all these new parts settle properly. After about 1000 kms you won't have any over heating issues. If you go out on long rides be sure to take a stop for the engine's sake every 50 kms or so and don't rip if you want good mileage later on.

As for the engine oil, it is not what is causing the overheating problem so stick the recommended grade mentioned in the manual.

Please check your engine oil level every 300 to 400 Kms in to the trip..do not allow the level to drop below the low mark level..Carry a liter of the engine oil as spare and top it up, as and when necessary..Do not ignore to check oil level every 300 to 400 Kms....on main stand, and after 5 minutes of stopping engine.
