  • honda synthetic oil

hey all, I heard that honda has launched a new fully synthetic oil(10w30) in india (specially for cbr250). Any reviews on it? Can it be used in honda unicorn or dazzler?

..yeah...I had this doubt too.. but thought what harm can it cause ?.. It isnt like its gonna corrode something or blow the seal off.. so experimented with this. I havent seen any negative because of this.. I mixed them cause I had some spare Motul 300V and didnt want it waste on something worthless. I did however try to mix both of them in a clear ice cream bowl to see if there was any reaction between.. absolutely no visible change and moreover atleast I used to see hint of Motul 300V on top of Shell FS through the oil level window.. but after 3 weeks of running.. I don't see 300V green.. ..its all yummy yummy honey

yup.. thanks Amit.. my bad. Mixing SS with FS has been a common practise as I have learnt from several blogs.. though people do have their reservation, scientifically speaking we are not running ultra precision machines and afterall SS is part FS ingredient, only thing that seperates them is the composition. unless they coagulate or turn rancid, there is absolutely no problem in using them together. I m yet to hear/see a report on adverse effect of this mixture. Has anyone stumbled upon any ?

Its a great VFM oil for Rs 500/- .I cant try it on my ZMA as its 10W30, should work fine with 150cc's.

People are still using it as far as I know..... I m happy with my FS mix.. and havent see a hint of problem yet after driving close to 1K Kms. The point here is mixing liquids especially engine oils of various composition doesnt really cause trouble unless they have compatibility issues between them and engine. Like car oil in bike is big no-no as we are aware of the problems with our clutch and engine compression rate. The problem arises when SS+SS / FS+SS / FS+FS have compatibility issues between them. Though mixing mineral with FS/SS has to be given thought (and a willing volunteer ).Frankly, given the choice of engine oils in market these days experimenting with them is really interesting and primary property of an engine oil is to lubricate ..

So You mean you want to mix Motul 300V 15w50 and Motul 5100 15w50. One of my friend has tried that and didn't face any issues, However I myself won't prefer doing the same.

Since this will be your first leap into synths, I would suggest that you go ahead with another 4K Kms with SS and then skip to FS. It will do good to your bike and will be easy on pocket too . As far as flush goes, I m actually in favor of it ( I m sure there are many xBHPians for and against and its one of our tea time discussions ). Check out for 3M engine flush in your automarket. Else, you can go ahead without flush too.. shouldnt do you any harm. Keep a good eye on oil change when you hand over this to the mechanic. I came close to draining my 300V last time while servicing my bike at probike. So watch out. Cheers and post your experience back.
thank you for the reply !! again one question which SS oil to be used pulsar 220 as it needs 20W50 and also tell its cost.

if i give cans of oil myself will probiking guys use it ? or they will take it home ? and fill that crappy bajaj 10000 in my bike ?

                    • HI,
I own Honda Unicorn 2009 clocked 13.5k Currently using Honda engine oil
i am pretty happy with it but after 1.3k kms engine becomes rough and gear shift becomes hard i want engine oil which can last for at least 2k kms
if i switch to SS or FS oil what are the pro or cons of doing so
my usage is 80% city mumbai traffic conditions

P220's need 15W50 which corresponds to MOTUL 5100 4T 15W50. This will lighten your pocket by Rs. 450. But, there is always a window for bargaining with the shop keeper. Talk to Motul guys in Mumbai and find out their valued dealers and distributors in your location. You can get upto Rs. 50/- discount on these stuff's (if you are planning to take more Motul products from same guy).
Regarding Probiking guys, keep your eye's glued on your bike while its being worked on. When they take the audit of your bike, mention you will need oil change and that Bajaj 10000 should NOT be put and that should NOT be charged (They are slick when it comes to these things, ask for bill breakup with the supervisor). Hand over the oil can only when the mechanic asks for it and stand closeby until its emptied into. Its your money/bike that is at stake.

Synth and semisynths are always a pleasure to deal with. Given the fine quality of Honda engines, I would suggest that you take the advise of Honda mechanics before shifting. They will judge your engine much better than we can. Since your bike has run decent distance, and if you are keen on shifting to synth's, then the best option would be to go for SS first 5K Kms and based on your feel you can upgrade to FS. FS/SS are good when it comes to city conditions.

if nothing is written on the bottle of Valvoline simply believe it that u r going to pour 20w40 oil trust me guys i have had an accident with this oil got the bottle and i used it for 4 services and every time i was putting 20w40 oil thinking that the Valvoline oil which the company is giving me its 20w50 but actually it was 20w40 oil because of this i had to change my clutch plates at 7000 km only.

if there is nothing mentioned on the box of any oil dont buy it other wise u will regret.
