An opened oil pack might get damaged due to difference is surrounding temperature and exposure to outside dirt (2008-2011) very long exposure to dirt. since its packed you can use it.
Thanks for the detailed info buddy.
Happy i could use it and yeah, can't wait to feel the difference

    • Hi All ..
I have read many posts in this thread and now really confused which oil should be used in my Pulsar 150 DTSI. 30k km done.
Should I go for Synthetic or Semi Synthetic oil.
Recommanded rating is 20W40 for Pulsar [correct me if I am wrong].
What effect will be there if 15W50 or 5W50 oil is used in 150cc engine.

Will try to clear the air.

2)Always stick to company rec. grade 20W40.using XXw50 is requirement dependent.

#age of bike,if the age is more than 50000km you can use since the bore and piston and other enginen parts are partially/slightly degraded/eroded and the high viscosity of w50 will look after that.

#Temperature:the Indian summers especially the south Indian are too hot, hence the engine performs sustainably at high temperature, with little cooling.the makes the engine behaves harshly when compared to the same at other seasons.

#Duration of driving:if you are tourer(covering long distances) than w50 suits best as it maintains the engine performance smoothly and protects the engine from severe long running strain.

There will be some slight sluggishness in the pick up if you use 20w50,but 15w50/5w50 is always thinner when compared to 20w50 so.....negligible or nearly normal engine behavior similar to 20w40

1)its purely depend on your pocket weight and passion, but mineral oil will always is enough for our daily commuter requirement. But if you are bike-o-phile than i can understand the enthusiasm to feed your bike with the high end stuffs. so you can use semi or fully synth(these are also recommended if you always rip your beast all the time)

#For the first 5000kms stick to 20w40 mineral than you can upgrade to semi and than finally to synthy....

        #personal experience best 20w40:

        mineral:gulf,motul,veedol takeoff4t.

ss: only used veedol super swift and it is gvf,try it,never let you down.

        synthy:not used till now.

15w50 & 5w50 are rated for low & lower ambient temperature uses respectively , and higher operating temperature ; than 20w40 . These lighter base stock oils will flow better at colder temperatures ( say below 0C ) . Stick to 20w40 unless u need to start your engine below zero regularly . If you need to ride really long and hot regularly ( like say ,more than 50kms at a stretch in indian summers above 35C regularly ) shift to 20w50 . Try motul / gulf/elf minerals .
Synthetics will make things very slippery ... the engine & the outlet of your wallet too .. so that your money will just flow out easier . If you are wanting to release some pressure there .. then go for it . Motul 7100 4T is your poison or remedy (as you'd prefer to see it) .
          Just In -
Motul 3000 4t (mineral) 20w40 is hiked it's price to 235 Rs ( retail ) per liter pack . I got a 10 Rs discount coupon behind the label ( tearing it off ) . Gulf pride 4t 20w40 is also up @ 225 Rs per liter pack . Shell HX4 20w40 is less @ 180 Rs per 900ml pack . Gonna try that next . So it's a 10-17.5% hike in lube prices ,all over , they said . Too bad . Motul 3000 4T is available in 10w30 grade too , now .

i have a P150, and i have tried almost all oils including fully synthetic anc motul etc.

i will suggest u stick to xxw40, P150 is very happy with this oil, specially upto UG3.

DO NOT USE FULLY SYNTHITIC OILS.
a number of people riding P150, including me had suffered engine damage due to motul fully synthetic oils. Pulsars have a tendency to eat away synthetic oils specially motul, and u will see your oil level decreasing and if you dont monitor your oil for long, one fine day you will realise that there is not a dop of oil in your bike. but by then damage would have been done. this happened with my bike and also with several others also.

people who don't know this, will say.."how is it possible", but if you dig deeper in xbhp, you will find a lot of info on this.

now i stay away from fully synthetic oils. believe me--do not use fully synthetic oil in pulsar. use any good mineral oil or semi synthetic oil of xxw40 grade.

do not experiment with your bike, stick to company recomended grade...belive me we guys have done extensive trial and error.

do not change grade, unless there is a problem with existing grade.

i personally use castrol power1 xxw40. this is my personal opinion and i m sure a few old members will agree.

Is available in mineral , SS & FS varieties and several sub-varieties too .
                2.It's viscosity??
I have seen in 20w40 , as most yamaha engines use that only , other grades may be available .
                3.Cost??
Yamalube is manufactured by Motul and re-labeled by Yamaha . Cost is almost same . Specs are little different than motuls own oils as Yamaha is specifying it's own oils as it's engine needs .
                4.Can i buy it directly through Y.A.S.S??
Yes , yamaha parts counter sells it over the counter .
                Answers in bold fonts .
I have used it myself lots , it's an excellent oil , plus no chance of counterfeit if you buy from Yamaha service centres .

Thnx a lot guys.Ive been using Shell Advance Ultra FS Rs720/- .I didnt find any difference in smoothness and pickup with this oil.Feels like ive wasted my 720/- So now i have 2 options left, Motul 5100 and the Yamalube. The yamalube which the YASS sell, is it the FS one?? Im fine with 20w40 grade as cbz commands the same.

I called up the Motul distributor in Sewri for 5100 specs but he didnt have them. But the price was 490/-.Whats the viscosity for 5100??

                    @aneesh

Buddy my baby is 7yrs old now.I cant afford to pour in mineral oil as in the past the Hero honda oil has screwed my bike enuff It plainly sucks.
Wouldnt recommend the HH oil to anyone in my life.

I don't think there is any SS or FS oil in 20w40 grade here . While I agree with you about the 10w30 hero honda oil (having suffered from it myself) you need not write off ALL mineral oils for that . 20w40 basic mineral oil of motul/gulf/elf would run fine in your engine , I am using motul & gulf mineral 20w40 myself now after having discarded the HH 10w30 . Superb oils both !
Also note that the HH 10w30 may not be all that bad by itself per-se , only it's application in hot Indian plains is unsuitable ... I am sure in winter or in cold places like the Kashmir valley .. it would work very nicely , maybe better than a 20w40 too . It is the HeroHonda's bright idea to make a logistical solution out of it's one single oil used through out it's fleet of bikes from 97cc to 230cc from kashmir to jaisalmer from winter thru summer threatening to void your warranty otherwise ; a misguided marketing ploy .

It depends on how long and from which mileage you have been running on synthetics & whether your bike's engine came recommended with synthetic oils only . If you had just been trying out synthetics for say last 10k kms since your bike was at 10k kms old , I'd say you can shift back to mineral oil anytime now . If you've been running on synthetics like forever now , rather not shift to minerals , your engine has build up tolerances and may not cope well with the degradation in lubrication . If she's been on 300v for just this last 4k kms only ( as you say ) , you can fill her up with motul mineral without problems .

I am riding Unicorn and tried different oils that are available to me.
Veedol Super Swift 10w40 Semi Synthetic - very good upto 2500kms.
Honda Oil 20w40 Mineral - Good upto 1400kms
Gulf Pride 4T 20w40 Mineral - very good in its class
Shell Mineral 20w40 - worst oil ever for Unicorn, drained with in a week
Castrol Power1 Racing 4T 10w40 Fully Synthetic - Excellent, retained smoothness and response for 8000kms(august to march)
Motul 300v FS 10w40 - even though lots of people suggest Motul my Unicorn didn't like it used only for 2500kms(april to beginning ofJune), low response to acceleration, oil started leaking from clutch seal, self motor seal, Rs800 down the drain.
Motul 300v FS 15w50 - Not satisfied again, Rs350 down the drain(found 2007 packed oil and negotiated with the dealer to test with the w50 grade.
Current Savsol 10w30 - very good response from engine(since it is 10w30) little heat issue, 500kms done.
Next change - Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T FS ( I am going to stick to this, lack of availability though)
Used Castrol Power1 Racing 4T in my friends Xtreme, very smooth till now done 5000kms.
Bottom Line - My Unicorn doesn't like Motul, hates Shell.

Bottom Line - My Unicorn doesn't like Motul, hates Shell.
                                Wow Thanks a Ton sir
