Awful road conditions in Calcutta now + gonna be 40+ this 10th , I haven't gone anywhere near 100kmph in these last few years , so I couldn't tell ... but i've been on 20w40 this whole summer .. both on the cbz-x & my newish splendor & it definitely feels much better on the engine . Another thing I noticed is that the 20w40 (motul 3000 4T plus) is producing much better compression & clutch bite on the older cbz-x engine , than the HH 10w30 ever did . I've three bottles of the gulf 10w30 left too .. will use it up in winter from nov-feb .
I also got news from friends about this new oil from IOCL (goben) . Do give us your rating on it after use & and also the market price of it , it's 900ml pack , right ?

Goben is available in 900 & 1000ml, 900 ml MRP is just Rs.205 (Servo 4T Zoom costs Rs.215), IOCL sales chap said many B'lore HH dealers have tried it and given good feedback as well. He also says Goben will better 10W30 4T zoom and has drain period of 6000kms though they have not printed it on bottle.
Now a days I'm using my car a lot due to rains so next oil change is quite far (at least 5/6 months), I will post feed back after using goben.

Motul3000 4T plus was 200 Rs (1 lit , 20w40) even in june , but just last few weeks ago I got a bottle for my best friend here , and the shop says prices are up ... so yes 225 Rs now ... but then he tore off the label and extracted a discount coupon from under it and returned 20 bucks .

I just got one bottle last Saturday-it was written Rs.214 on top, but I insisted for Rs.200&he gave it!
Gotta see how the oil fares though-its the first time I'm trying it in my old bike.

Drain period of oil varies according to the riding style,Normally they last upto 2500kms.

The Drain Period for AX7 is 5500 to 6000km in normal condition.i have been using this oil almost for a year. and have recently got it drained after 6300 kms approx still it had a little life to carry on before it would get completely worn out...

2.5 to 3.0 k is for Mineral oils.. AX7 falls under the semi-synthetic category... even though it is said as highly filter (or whatever it is called ) mineral oil...

A very bad practise i must say.You should never allow an engine oil to last more than 3000-4000kms with top ups under normal riding conditions.Since ur located in a city, the traffic must be immense.You are screwing up ur engine big time buddy.The result of prolonged oil use would only lead to sludge accumulation in ur crankcase.The best way to maintain an healty engine is to always check the condition of the oil and then decide whether to change or not

very true. Even full synthetic oils wont be able to touch 6k kms under normal conditions.
Changing oil at around 2k interval is best bet and earlier if you rip your bike.

i make sure that i check the oil level and condition after every 1000kms. and also i use to change the old mineral oil after 2500 to 3000 kms max.. and i did that for almost 10,000 to 12,000 kms after that i change to AX7 eariler know as Shell AVG or AGV something.. and used it 16,500 kms (Completed when i changed oil).. AFAIK i did only one top up that too the oil left out in bottle i had bought

Regarding this shell ax7, though its written on can as semi-synthetic its actually a highly refined mineral oil ( I have learned this on this thread itself). So, I guess its drain interval should be around 2.5K kms, just to be on safer side.

The name semi synthetic is kinda misleading. Semi synth oil contains only 5% - 30% synthetic molecules (not 50%), that too varies from brand to brand, oil to oil.. (remember the the ad of castrol activ..? They say NOW WITH SYNTHETIC TECHNOLOGY..!! And its priced 200 something...)
i mean even with semi synth oil no one should think of extending the oil Change interval. (as one does with synthetic oils)
because oil picks dirt, dust & by-products of combustion which includes acids & other harmful stuff.. I bet you dont want all these bad things circulating within your engine.. (with oil).
Btw, if full synthetic oils are changed between 2-3k interval, the engine WILL last for lifetime. (because those by-products of combustion are constant.. i.e. Rate of oil contamination will be same.. Regardless of oil being used)
but people tend to extend change intervals because of the price factor.
