I have recently purchased three Shark helmets from the High Note Performance, one for myself, another for my girlfriend and one for my best friend. They have diverse range made it easier to select. Shark Range of helmets is perhaps the best. It works great for me. Hope it helps a bit.

The graphics looks good and the price is also appropriate.

Just thought of sharing an incident I read across today.

Yamaha R15 rider dies on race track, parents sue helmet company.

Helmet in question: MT Axxis EVO.

Nandakumar, 20, an avid biker, lost control of his bike while taking on a corner. This resulted in the bike flipping and him crashing. He suffered severe head injuries despite wearing a helmet and succumbed to the same at a private hospital. His parents now plan to file a complaint against the manufacturers of the helmet, cause if the helmet had not broken, their son would have survived.

In addition to that, Nandkumar’s brother alleges that the
Ambulance that carried his brother to the hospital was ill equipped. It lacked basic first aid equipment while there was also no nurse or doctor on board.
Tarun Kumar, of Coimbatore Racing Academy, who had organized the race day, stated –
“Generally during training sessions, a coach would drive in front of the racers to control their speed. But this event was open for riding and there were no coaches. We had ensured that all safety gears were available with the racers and also followed all the safety norms.”
Nandakumar has been an avid racer since the age of 18. He has participated in a series or races even at national level and had only recently purchased a new bike after taking a loan. His father was also planning to attend the race day on Sunday but had to cancel at the last minute.

Strangely enough, my brother uses the same helmet. I find it hard to digest for a helmet to crack like an egg shell especially the rear portion where the helmet shell are usually the strongest.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

            THE END

R.I.P Nandakumar .Condolences to his family and friends. A polycarbonate/thermoplastic(assuming it is made of thermoplastic) shell is supposed to be the most resistant to breakage and it's really scary to see helmet in such a state. Not trying to put any brand down, but still a thermoplastic shell is supposed to take impacts and not to come apart like that. Here's a crude/medieval way of testing done by our western neighbors, which shows that the thermoplastic shells should not break that easily. Two of the helmets in the video are sold in U.S with D.O.T approval, which are studds shifter and studds scorpion. They are sold there as D.O.T daytona shifter and shadow respectively. http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/universa...ml#post1236483

That's rubbish man. Seeing this i wont touch this brand again. So much for better rating etc etc. The helmet split open in two that speaks volume. Even if the shell would have been intact it was understandable but a busted helmet is = no helmet at all.

Well, it's too early to jump the gun IMO. A helmet or any protective gear doesn't warrant no injury or no loss of life. There are many variables involved. A hard hit can cause concussion and death while the helmet shell remains intact. Plus we would never know if this helmet was dropped earlier as well.
My condolences to the family. Hard time for them. But I don't think anything would come out of this.
                  Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

That isn't a conclusive answer. Do a little bit of research on DOT and ECE ratings, you'd get to know what type of tests they do and what type of forces are measured and taken into consideration while making a helmet.

In relation to this particular incident, none of us know the circumstances of the crash, or the history of the helmet, if it had been dropped before (most small track companies use the same riding gear for all their riders amongst different classes). If you notice a label on the inner liners of any helmet (AGV or Shoei or Bell or any international manufacturer) you'd notice a marking saying "No helmet can protect the wearer from all possible or foreseeable impacts". A helmet is only meant to absorb impact, and if the force of impact goes over the threshold that the helmet can withstand it breaks. So boycotting a brand just because of one particular incident out of pure speculation doesn't seem quite explanatory.

I feel sad for the loss of a life, my condolences to the family and friends.

Really a saddening incident and my condolences to his entire family in this hard time.

It certainly raises doubts if the MT helmets sold to India are of sub-standard manufactured quality, as compared to the ones that are sold in the European market (This is done by a lot of brands - from car/bike manufacturers)
What further compels me to believe so are the facts given below, which I personally spent sometime in researching. (I did so coz I had gifted an MT to my younger brother and recommended it to a few friends, which already is not given me a good feeling and I would not be very sure of doing so going ahead.)

                          1) MT Helmet Spain (MT HELMETS) does not have the Axxis model listed whatsoever, while their distributor here is selling a model called Axxis.
Inference: Its either a Fake MT Series (Less likely) or its a series made by MT which is of sub-standard quality and is sold in India only and thus not mentioned on their global website. I do not find any other reason.

                          2) MT Helmet on sportsbikeshop.co.uk for 129 Pound (INR. 11k), while it is sold in India at INR. 6250. While an HJC on sportsbikeshop.co.uk is sold for 79 Pounds (INR. 6.5k), while in India its sold for INR. 7.5k (Expensive in India, but more or less than same price)
Inference: Its a genius cost innovation by MT and their Indian distributor to reduce the price to HALF OR simply lowered the quality to lower the cost to get numbers in India, while bank upon MT's brand credibility and get away with it.

                          3) Indian distributor sold Imola helmets in India under the brand name Kranos which they continue to sell even today, which were apparently manufactured by MT. While MT was selling the Imola 2 (under its own brand name- MT) which was mentioned on their Global website since almost 2 year from now.
Inference: Why was Imola sold in India, while Imola 2 was already out ? Its been 2 years now, they still continue to sell the Imola in India while the Imola 2 is out. (May be a little vague to decide the quality sold in India, but we can take an idea at the brand's perspective/outlook towards the Indian market).

                          4) Imola Helmet is sold here at 3250/- and comes with ECE and DOT both, while the MT Blade also come with both the homologations.
Inference: I have personally seen both the helmets and there is a huge difference in the shell and the foam pads inside. The Imola hardly had any foam towards the top (One can directly see the Shell form the inside) clearly showing why its sold at 3250/-, while still it qualified to get a ECE and DOT approval. Really ??? Given that helmet to be ECE and DOT approved, I felt my 13 year old Vega helmet could have well gotten a SNELL approval then !

I do understand that all the protective helmets/gear given their safety norms do not guarantee 100% safety. But it made me think on these line and pondered upon the thoughts mentioned above.

I was actually waiting to see how much time it takes for the "knowledgeable members" to "ass-u-me" the sturdiness of a helmet after "reading"/"knowing" about an incident.

Does anyone know that this is not the first major accident at Kari? Does anyone know how the rider or what actually hit the helmet, ever thought what if its the concrete pavement at apex that was the reason or the motorcycle hit him (presuming it toppled). How do you know that the helmet was already intact from inside before the incident?

How can you judge a helmet depending on an article? Its very easy to sit in front of the screen and judge things which none of us were witness off.

P.S : Neither I am associated with MT nor taking sides, if it would have been Arai/Shoei, I would have written the same thing actually.

And on Revzilla HJC Mamba is around 9k (under my budget). It is around 17-18k in India.

Any idea how much the clear / iridium or other coated visors costs in India for HJC mamba ?

Amazon and other websites shows different prices.
