  • I was looking for a fiberglass helmet and wanted to purchase Steelbird Grand Prix Obg Multicolor Sb-19 helmet. Checked different shops in Karol Bagh as well as Steelbird Riderz shop but even they didn't have the complete range of helmets. Chopra Automobile had Steelbird GP One SB-10 helmet. This particular helmet is not manufactured anymore and they had a few pieces left. I liked the helmet and bought GP One SB-10 Flash. The helmet has a solid feel and fits snugly. The fit and finish of the helmet is very good and the graphics of this particular helmet looks good too.

The only con is the visor which is flimsy and asked them if this is the original one and they replied in the affirmative. Searched about the visor and and lots of people have complained about the same. Any alternative of fitting a better visor(brand) and with minimal changes or what changes needs to be done if any(Members who have any experience kindly tell me or share the relevant link).

They were also pushing for a TIH brand of helmet which they claimed was a Taiwanese company, these helmets were imported and they were dot certified. The helmets are available in full face and motocross and have good graphics. I tried the helmets and the fit and finish is good but DOT certification is just a sticker and not under the clear coat. I refused to purchase the helmet.

Reached home and out of curiosity searched TIH helmet and could locate a single website which states that we are a Taiwanese brand and have setup helmet manufacturing in Maharashtra in India to provide Indians with DOT,ECE and Snell certified helmets! I don't understand why Chopra Automobiles were claiming these helmets to be imported.

    TIH helmets

I searched and couldn't locate anything except for the above link. Anyone who has heard or used this brand of helmet?

I've seen even some superbikers if I my memory serves me correct, in Facebook where one of them in a group of superbikers happen to ride with this TIH helmet, and I was shuffling through that time.

But regarding your buy, if I happen to see the manufacturing date that's on the visor, I think it's well over a year old, so perhaps, it shows there wasn't anyone going for it, just because of various reasons or just one off models. But from the looks of it, it sure looks like an ARAI Stoner Replica, though he uses a NOLAN, but that's my two cents.

But don't forget to post your reviews without fail.

      Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Its strange sometimes how coincidences work ! I was just talking to somebody a few minutes ago about this brand!

I met the Sales Head in Goa at IBW. They are a Taiwanese owned company that imports components into India and assembles them in Thane, if my memory serves me right. Some of the helmets looked pretty good but have no first hand experience with them. DOT certification is definite not true though, since they are manufactured in India for the Indian market and do not pass any certification here. I was told that they would be getting ISI marking soon though.

Spot on. I was going through their website to get some info, and they do manufacture the helmets in India though it's a Taiwanese brand. Plus was wondering the same with DOT, etc, if they manufacture in India, I just, just don't fathom that these helmets will be cent percent DOT certified, definitely.

            Cheers!

You've bought your helmet now, right. You mean to say the ECE sticker is not present or it's present but not under clear coat. Yes, it's the case with many Phobias out there, have seen them too.

            Cheers!

Nothing to worry. I just hope you just didn't open the flood gate to more potential queries about the same here. Rest said and done, it's just normal with LS2s

ID:	1838568This is My Vega Offroad Graphix Helmet. Bought it in Mid 2011. For Rs.2100/- with visor & Goggles. ISI certified, Solid build, Good quality & Heavy feel.
Again in 2012 end, in bought one more Vega offroad Helmet (Black with red graphics) and i have noticed a major difference in quality man. The 2012 helmet which i bought was for Rs.2400/- with visor and it was very light weight and quality was not like the first and it slides aside when i maintain speeds above 95-100 kmph. I went to the store and asked him that is it a duplicate Vega offroad Helmet and he answered that "SIR, IF I SELL DUPLICATE STUFF, MY SHOP WILL BE SEIZED" Then even showed him the first helmet which i bought in 2011, he was unable to answer saying it might be change of materials used in manufacturing due to time.
What do you people think was the fault, the first helmet i bought in mid 2011 was Awesome , solid quality, & the one bought in 2012 end is very light weight and isnt reliable for use at high speeds Below is a pic of the Second Helmet (Black with Red graphics) which isnt good in Quality.

                  • @Touseef : Vega has changed the materials, my friend's old boolean was heavy and the newer ones are lighter.
Now coming to withstanding high speeds....."offroad" name has been given to them due to a reason....I hope rest is understood. Plus I personally would not recommend "offroad" helmets for "street" use

You probably answered your own question, literally in a way that is. First off, it's a well known fact, if you've used MPA and AEROSTAR helmets that are years old, you can see how robust they are, given the fact they don't look like helmets, though, but still tough enough for the job.

Now considering Vega, for some reasons I always hated the VEGA and (forgive me, this is just for all the wannbes) the posers who ride with dirt helmets with so called tinted silver visors down. Makes you look guys cool? DUH!! But I am not to diss the fact that most wannabes would prefer a off-road helmet for a street use, why? Perhaps it's best left to individual themselves.

Now it would be naive to ask the shopkeeper whether he sells fake or genuine, even if he does he ain't gonna confess he is reselling a fake helmet. The build quality obviously has to do with the company that manufacture, strength, thickness etc. Nowadays people prefer lightweight, comfortable helmets, that's one reason. But you get the same 450 Rs helmet that's sold on footpaths as lightweight as an AIROH 13000 Rs helmet, but does that mean safety? Definitely not.

I would always suggest, if one can spend some 2k on a plastic bucket as the off road helmet, why don't they just save and spend few hundred more and get themselves a proper full face helmet with approved standards. Trust me, it'd make you look even cooler.

                      Cheers!

                          • Hi Guys,

I am about to book yamaha r15 next month (colour would be black -grey model). I want a helmet to go with it.
I have shortlisted LS2 Phobia. Just wanted to know where in Thane/Mumbai can I buy an authentic model since I can see a lot of fake ones too being sold in the market.

EDIT: Can someone also please let me know how to switch between clear and tinted visors?? (Noob alert! )

Perhaps someone can answer the stores avlbl in Mumbai. Regarding changing the visor, you will get small pamphlet with the helmet, that will brief on how to use your helmet and lock and unlock the visor. If you want to see a practical demo, you can request the salesman to do it for you, it's isn't rocket science. Just a few secs work.

                              Cheers!
