Re: Helmets
Hello xbhpians,
I am looking for a helmet replacement for my Vega Formula HP. The Vega has served me well so far. Even toured with it. But has become old and the straps have started to rust. Also its build quality is OK at best. Here are my requirements:
Price Range: Rs. 1500-2000 (Can extend a bit)
Type: Full Face
Motorcycle: Karizma R
City: Chennai (Humid + Hot)
Purpose: City use + Occasional touring
Interesting models: Studds Shifter, Studds Scorpion and Steelbird SB 28 Classic Double Visor
Preferred functionalities: LOW WIND NOISE, Ventilation and Double Visor
When touring I usually cruise at 90-110kmph. I have read on this thread and elsewhere that the Studds Scorpion, though a good helmet, suffers from excessive wind noise at higher speeds. I have no idea about the other two. My Vega gave me no problems in that regard even when doing 120kmph. But then again, I wear a balaclava whenever I tour and its a small helmet (snug fit). That could have been the reason. I have heard good reviews about Studds Ninja too but I am personally sceptical about modular helmets.
I would have loved an AXOR but it is a bit out of my budget and I have seen cops arguing with commuters about ISI sticker not being there on LS2 helmets. So I don't want to waste time arguing with the cops. Please suggest the best one from the list I have mentioned for my requirements. Suggestions for other good models within the budget are also welcome.Last edited by harishkumarko; 10-23-2015, 02:14 PM.Tour De Thekkady

How much did it cost?Originally posted by dhruv_panchal View PostBought MT Axxis Falcon helmet in the high viz colour from Moto 101 Pune. (Great place to buy your gears)
Upgraded from my 2 year old LS2 phobia.
The helmet is very snug and causes slight pain near the ears initially. Will have to wait for the cheek pads to break in.
Will update with more reviews after few rides with it.

Re: Helmets
Guys.
Update for my new Axxis Falcon helmet.
Wore it a few times inside the city.
The design and colour is head turner
The visor is good.
The breath deflector plus the extended nose of the helmet reduces visibility a bit.
Faced a small issue. When travelling at speeds 80kmph+ , whenever I encountered cross winds, the helmet moves a little laterally (left/right).
Has anyone else had the same issue?
Any solutions?

Re: Helmets
Wear your helmet and shake your head left and right for a few times.Originally posted by dhruv_panchal View PostIts the smallest size : M.

The helmet should move with your head rather that the helmet swinging itself.
And do the same while shaking head back and fourth .
The correct way to see if the helmet is loose or not in my opinion .[emoji6]

Re: Helmets
Recieved my THH TS41 helmet today.
First impressions.. quite good actually..
Graphics are cool but i guess not to everyones taste.
ISI and Dot certified has d ring strap.
A little heavy but nothing unmanageable
Enough padding around sides. Not much at the back. Can be removed and washed
Has a snug fit with no unnecessary movements in any plane
Visor is clear with no distortion and has a lock mechanism.
3 Vents below and one above.. havent tested them thoroughly but works okay..
Most important. Wind noise.. minimal at 90kmph and i love it..
Its a free size helmet and i guess i am lucky it fits perfectly. (59-60 normally)
Only disadvantage is that spares are not available.
Cost 2200. 3200 on Paytm with almost 1000 cashback..
Not bad at all..

Re: Helmets
Yesterday I went for a proper ride of 100+kms, so hence thought of putting up my review for the MT Blade helmet I bought last month.
As said during the 1st impressions the quality of the helmet is very good here are a few points I'd like to highlight of what I felt:
- This helmet is heavy or shall I say heavier than what I'm used to!! So by the end of the ride my neck sprain(I got up with a mild sprain possibly due to sleeping position) got a little worse! Though I cant solely blame it on the helmet, but I'm sure overtime I'll get used to the heaviness.
- It's far quiter than my open-face helmet obviously but This is not as quite as I expected it to be, beyond 80kmph there's wind noise to be heard! to be more precise it's whistle/howl. & mine particularly also had a low whistle on the left even at 70oddkmph. I found that this comes from the bottom opening, if I put my thumb there it would stop!
- While I said it's heavy It's also very comfortable at the same time. I didn't have any numb parts or itching even though I sweat a lot & the sun was beating down.
All in all its a good helmet, i'm sure to give a long term review of this.
