That's it: Although the helmet (Studds Shifter) is quite decent (it saved my life once).. it's the "Brand Perception".. that is where the problem lies.

I would say invest in some other gears first (assuming you still have to get them).. like in Proper Motorcycle Boots (Not Hiking/Woodland type boots).. and Proper Riding Pants.

A very painful sprain on my foot made me realize the importance of Proper Motorcycle Boots.

Instead of helping me find the correct size, he started explaining me that the L size is 580 mm and is suitable for the average Indian head size, and that I should use the L size and it will get loose with time. Huh!

The Outer Shell Size of the Helmet is one single size with only the removable inner differing in sizes. So far I do not know of any Helmet brand selling in India that have different Shell Sizes.

On the Studds Site they have mentioned that the Shifter is available in Sizes M, L and XL. The re-sellers stock in size "L" only as far as I have noticed. Obviously, it becomes simple for them to order and sell a single size.

Shoot a mail to "[email protected]" and "[email protected]" and ask them for XL inners for the Shifter. They respond quite promptly. In my case I wanted a size M. I have contacted the Studds guys and they are trying to arrange a Size M inner for me.

how is it just brand perception?

you've clearly said that the helmet is noisy afer 60kmph.

how likely is a studds visor likely to get scratched?

and how prone is it to fogging up? does it have a demist tab?

what is the field of view?

Is the inner lining replaceable and washable?

          how effective are the vents?

can the visor be replaced with a UV dark visor?

how heavy is it compared to "more expensive" helmets?

what abous the kind of clip that fastens the helmet to your head.

there are so many things that seperate a Studds helmet from an AGV.

and it's simply not just brand perception.

there's no way a Studds can offer more protection than a AGV for example.

and 2000-3000 is too little to spend on a helmet for someone riding a bike that can go past 180kmph.

It's just the wind noise... which is no bother for me since I use ear plugs.

I wouldn't know since in my case there has been no scratches.. even if I do, all I have to do is visit "Karol Bagh" and shell out a few rupees

            ZERO FOGGING

Read my review: The helmet get's generous dose of air while riding.. due to which there is wind noise, but it also keeps head cool during summers and therefore no issue of "fogging" during winters.

.. but yes I would suggest a Blaclava in winters

As I said, the helmet gets generous flow of air.. so even if there were no vents, it doesn't make a difference.

WHY? When there is already a Dark Inner Visor.

BTW the Studds site says there are Dark Visors as well

Its a bit Lighter than the imported ones that I have used but heavier (in a good way) than the feather light other Indian helmets

Of course nothing compared to the light weight of my previous "Carbon Fibre" helmet.

Quick release one... and it did not give way when I crashed.

[I have used ones with D-Rings before, but now I like the convenience of the quick release ones]

I have had a pretty nasty crash in my previous Studds Shifter.. the head was hit on the concrete surface pretty badly. The on lookers said (and even I agree) that it was the helmet that saved me.

Of course it was around 75 Kmph and not 180 Kmph. But hey, I am still here. It is a Rs. 1800-2000 helmet.. and a pretty good one (I'll say that the Best I have seen at that price) at that price.

If anyone wan't to spend more, why not? PEACE Xionite

Looks like after people are following their fan boyism here too, earlier it was bajaj and now this helmet brand.

My opinion in 2k bracket shifter is good but when someone is on a bike which is quite fast , a better tested brands is far more feasible

I am just enjoying the Trolling here..

Somebody asked for the Review of this helmet.. I gave an honest review, since I have been using it. Simple

But yes, it does feel (briefly) like the xBhp of old that I used to know once...

haha. while i understand that you're just giving your views on a helmet that you've used,

and i get that you're happy with this particular helmet based on your experience with it...

personally... i sure as heck would not recommend a 2K helmet that is noisy past 60kmph.

it's more of a helmet for someone who rides a slow bike NOT for someone who rides an R3.

and here's the thing... the earplugs cut out the wind noise.

and in turn, the wind noise cuts out you being able to hear the rest of your environment.

it's not safe. it's like turning up the volume on your iPod just to drown out the noise from traffic while riding.

not safe at all. while earplugs without all that wind noise, would mean that a rider would be able to hear traffic around him better.

so personally, i wouldn't recommend a noisy helmet to an R3 owner.

while i get that you see "generous flow of air" from a non-vented helmet as a good thing...

                  i don't think it is.

no i haven't used one, and no, i haven't crashed so far.

but if i did... while on an R3... and i'm guessing at over 100-120kmph atleast...

i would definitely trust a helmet that's been developed with proper R&D.

no fanboyism here at all. and everyone here is talking on their experience with particular brands.

so it has nothing to do with fanboyism.

I've had friends who've survived 170-180kmph crashes because of reliable helmets.

i've also lost friends who've crashed on cheap tyres and budget helmets.

the money saved is just not worth it.

there's a reason racetracks ask riders to ONLY wear full gauntlet gloves and double D fasteners.

and you're far less likey to injure yourself on a racetrack than while you are on public roads.

just because something looks like a glove doesn't mean it'll do the job of every glove out there.

You are totally wrong here.. and obviously have not ridden with earplugs and just talking here from your perceptions.

Riding with earplugs is like driving in a silent cabin of an expensive car. The earplugs/silent cabin cuts out the stressful noise and yet lets you hear the sounds like horn and revving engines.

I am sure you have ridden in a silent cabin of car.

Initially it feels awkward and weird not to hear the cacophony outside while riding, but ear plugs makes a huge world of difference in cutting down fatigue especially on long rides

I am surprised that an xBhpian like yourself did not know that riding with earplugs was not an unnatural thing but an accepted thing.

i've ALWAYS ridden with Draper earplugs for the last 10 years or so.

please read my previous post again. i did NOT say that riding with earplugs is bad!

i said using earplugs to cut WIND NOISE is not safe.

as an added benefit... earplugs make single cylinder bikes FEEL less vibey.

yes. exactly. at 1800 bucks, it's virtually the lowest end helmet to buy at a propah helmet shop.
