Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

    • Guys, I wear spectacles and use a full face helmet. Whenever it rains during night, after the visor gets wet I have no option but to pull up the visor and ride(Otherwise the headlights of the vehicles on the opposite lane cause huge amount of glare due to the water droplets). After pulling up the visor, my spectacles start to get studded with those water droplets and they cause glare too. I'm sick of it as I have to stop every 2-3 minutes or so to wipe them clean. Otherwise, I'll end up having a poor vision due to those droplets. It's like the spectacles are a bane to the riders during night-rains. Any remedy to this?

I didnt have to read rest of it. Even I use spectacles.
To ride in rains this is what I do

        1) Stay away from tinted/smoked visors and use a tinted spectacles for morning rides(its better if your helmet has a goggles inbuilt that slides in from top)
        2) Keep visors clean and wax and buff it a little.(This will ease the water drops to roll down fast)
        3) Dont shut visor or open it completely.
        4) In My LS2 it has steps so Visor will remain in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 open positions. take advantage of it and close it till 90% so that it doesnt get foggy inside and vision is not compromised but still water drops dont reach your spectacles.
        5) Cant avoid wiping visors if its a heavy rain or you are riding longer distance. Have a soft cloth/hanky closeby and wipe it, since I use leather gloves not that much of water will be there on it and I use that to clean it.
        6) Always make sure water stays on the outside(of visor/specs), its really difficult to clean from inside you need to stop to clean it.
        7) If its too foggy and lots of vehicles on road, better take that pit stop.
        8) Avoid trailing behind big trucks or vehicles without rear fenders/mudguards as it will splash mud along with water which is still worse.

If any one has a better idea I seriously need it !

Kantu, you're right, LS2 and some other helmets, have ratchets that lock the visor in every inch making it easy for us to keep the visor opened at desired level. pcgamer, the issue you face has been faced by me too, as i wear a spectacle and the same issue has/was faced by me too. Don't use tinted visors in night, even though the visors are good, you cannot always see what's on the road, how the road is, reason being our entire focus is scattered around cars, headlights, etc.

Now this is my technique, I don't know whether others' feel comfortable with this or not. But pcgamer, you should have a spectacle cleaning cloth, the soft cloth that does the cleaning, it's called micro-fiber cloth and trust me this little piece of thing does its job excellent in removing water drops from the visor, it doesn't leave scatter marks of the water even after wiping it, the water just disappears from the visor. You can get a good quality microfiber cloth rather than the leafy ones out there. A good microfiber cloth is a little costly, costing less than 100 bucks.

When it rains or the conditions permit, I just keep it close to my pocket. And just when the water droplets start to bombard my visor, I take it from my pocket, And press it against the visor, applying a little pressure, I pull it left or right with ONE GO, (don't go back and forth because the water from the cloth just gets to the visor again) and you're all set with a clean visor. This is meant for slight drizzle to moderate dripping, not heavy rain, in which case any cloth or material will get drenched after repeated wiping.

Tried and tested and it works for me like a charm.

          Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          • Fellow riders, I'm closely following this thread but I have read so much that I'm really confused
I'm really in great need of a good helmet but my BUDGET IS LIMITED to a maximum of 1800Rs. My priorities are good visibility in night, less fog, less wind noise and moderate-high stability in speeds excess of 100kmph. I understand that all these cannot be expected from a 'budget' helmet, YET, I would like you all to suggest the best of the lot?
PS : I own a white coloured RTR-180 and I would like my lid to be NOT a contrasting colour, would like it to be white coloured
It's not about the RIDE. It's about HOW YOU ride :]

First of all, What you desire to get here; everyone seeks the same because such a Helmet does NOT exist ! haha, well bro you want a CHEAP helmet which suffices all the qualities of having a Great visor, Less Fog, Least Noise nad stability in 100+ kph; Well this is what is defined as an IDEAL helmet :P Anyways sure enough you can get one but then need to shell extra bucks for sure.
In the current budget constraint, I shall suggest you an undisputed Helmet i.e. Studds Rhyno - VFM, very good built, very much stable. I don't think you can get anything better in the mentioned range.

              Happy Shopping

                -f.
I had purchased a Bosch Aquatak 100,was really enthusiastic about the product.Had provisions for water and electricity, but packing and unpacking the thing along with those wires takes a hell lot of time. The high pressure of water tore a part of the bike's sticker as well(my carelessness though). I sold it yesterday..used only three times since I had to carry the whole setup, along with pipes and extension cord to my tenant's place where I wash the bike. Its better that you just splash water on the muddy parts right after the ride. Its much better that way.

@ All: Where can I find the best price and shop for white LS2 lid in Kolkata? Not that good in bargaining like many here. Got a White Fazer.

Tell you what, pretty much any helmet out there retails at 800 or 900 bucks easily. I remember teh VEGA HP Formula white helmet when I bought it was close to 600 bucks, and today it retails at around 900 bucks. There are tons of local made helmets in that price category you offer, but you need to keep in mind what your head is really worth. For 1800 you can try the Studds Scorpion, this helmet retails close to 1600~ range, and one of my friend has a white one, and boy it's super sexy.

The reason I am insisting for the SCORPION is, two things, it's sexy, and it's really does the job of what you ask for. I myself, didn't go for the RHYNO due to a number of reasons. But for you, the SCORPION should fit the bill perfectly.

                  Cheers!

You will find lots of shops near Urvashi Theater, Lalbagh.
Try Helmet Paradise and Megha Paradise(This one is good, apparently many from South India come here)
Check if the helmets are DOT certified.
