Why is it that everytime a helmet with ISI marking is criticized people just show up with vague replies. Kindly enlighten me that which good quality ISI helmet are you referring to ? The helmet standards as per ISI in India is still good but (I don't know why I've to write it again n again) the manufacturers have developed defect in them. Go to the market pick up any ISI marked helmet at a price point of 1k of any good brand of your choice and check out the details of the chin area. You will realize that you may crush it with your bare hands (yes, I had done it). These brands are making mockery of a good standard in very open manner and reality is that nobody is out there to enforce it back upon them

I am based out of Bangalore. So, went to Urvashi theatre area (which is full of helmet shops) couple of days back. I tried many helmets which I felt were plain, simple & sturdy (without a price consideration). None of them fit my head, including LS2 which they claimed would suit me. Across the shops, there were some Globe & Volga brands which I was not very convinced on buying. So, they concluded that I should order a custom made helmet (rubbish). But, in one of the shops, the guy said, there are a couple of older models in Vega which are relatively larger and said he will try to source them & call me. Let me wait & see where this goes
I remember from some post here that SOL helmets can be pre-ordered in unit pieces with a waiting period of around 1.5 months for uncommon sizes. If you are very sure that the standard XL sized helmet is just a size small for you then you should drop mail to SOL (or spartan) as well as LS2 to know if they can help you with XXL sized helmet. Since you are in Bangalore, if possible pay a weekend visit to

    Experience CentreSpartan ProGear Co.,
    #9, Copper Beach Avenue, Panayur,
    East Coast Road,
    Chennai - 600 119. India
and discover the proper size solution for your need.

Please be advised, SPG is closed on tuesdays. And as said by VJ sir, avoid those custom made ones.

I am surprised that you couldn't find a helmet that fits properly. I too got a marginally larger head but size XL in SOL, Sparxx and even LS2 fit me well.

I too am from the Bangalore and if you are interested, I could meet up with you and could help you out at the stores (I say this because I know for a fact that all these store guys are too lazy to give you a helmet based on size unless you pester them, for some reason they live by the logic "one size fits all" ). Or maybe you could try my helmet to check the size difference

Actually, not all helmets are that bad. I have been using a Studds ninja 3G for the last 2 years and it still is going good. Even the chin area that is being referred here had ample thickness and can save in case of any misfortune.
Yes, the helmets in the range less than 1K are just plastic, but go a little bit up, you can actually find useful products for daily use.
But the way that guy posted it was rude..

This is the 400 bucks helmet I got with my 200Ns( surprisingly, same helmet was offered by yahama dealer when I brought a r15) ,and it's strength was tested yesterday in a accident,IMHO it passed with flying colours.

Since my itch for T.W.O was increasing at a rapid pace, after 110 days I got the delivery of my D390 on 24th Oct-13. Two weeks prior to this I thought its better to upgrade my gears as well. So after much needed surveying, I found Sparx Helmets were indeed better in terms of Pricing, Safety and Visual appearance. Purchased ECE/22-05 DOT, S-07 model. I paid 5.3K for this after negotiating to the max Click image for larger version

great going Bharath, nice purchase. Please do let us know how it fairs at high speeds (wind noise), and that's about the right price that you have paid.

Well one thing you could try would be to wipe your fingers clean/dry before touching the visor but still there would be some negligible smudging. The best way to prevent it is by using the part highlighted in the image below to close the visor:

It's solely present to prevent smudging of the visor while open/closing it.

My friend it's best that you do not confuse pure luck with the strength of the helmet in reference. Having said this I don't want to drag the topic further as it has been extensively discussed in the past and what you make of the experience you had is purely upto you.

                  Good day

So after being told to wait to hear from SOL HQ , SOL India never even bothers replying to my mails after 2 months. So this is my last SOL product and DSG for that matter who chose to not take proper actions when my brand new gloves started unstitching and peeling itself within 400 kms/1 month.

On another note. Does anyone have pictures or videos of removing SOL metalman II's visor and inner cheek pads/ liners for wash? I can't figure it out for the life of me. I removed the cheek pads or atleast half of it but they seem to be embedded into the shell at the rear and there are no buttons to pop anymore. Any detailed instruction(with pics if any) will be helpful.

In the above image notice the lock mechanism in the circled area. That is the key to removing the visor. The said lock is there on both sides of the helmet and can be pushed downwards.

                      1. Hold the helmet between your knees while seated. The visor side facing forward
                      2. Lift the visor open to the maximum position
                      3. Push the visor down 2-3 notches
                      4. Now using the middle finger on both hands push the locks down simultaneously
                      5. While the lock is still held down, using the index finger and thumb raise the visor upwards, a little more than the previous maximum and release the locks, the visor should have successfully slotted out.
                      6. The difficult part is now done
                      7. Now you can separately release the circular locks of the visor from the helmet.

Practice it a few times and next time on you shall be able to remove and put it back in under twenty seconds

For the padding, first release all the push buttons and then start sliding it forward. The area from behind shall come out... if possible I shall try and post a video for the same soon if you still find it necessary.

Thank you I removed the visor and cleaned it but now i can't seem to find a way to put it back. it wont lock that is! Do i reverse the exact process?
As for the liners/paddings, while i'm in no hurry it would be nice to have a video to see where the push buttons are located and where to slide it forward. I'm not always this noob at any DIY but after witnessing my plastic air vent fall off the helmet when i took it out of the cover, i've become paranoid with yanking or touching anything that feels finicky on this helmet. I'm in no hurry, so you can take your own sweet time for a video if its not too much? Thanks .. appreciate the help!

It happens, never use your hand to open the visor in the frontal area of the visor, that will almost always cause fingerprints and scratches. They have a small flap like protrusion on almost every helmet visor, use that to push up and bring down the visor. As rightly pointed by photos.

GMAX GM68S Motorcycle Helmet - YouTube

Watch this video, this explains how to do and undo. This is GMAX slightly modded and sold as SOL by the same company that manufactures GMAX.

Now when it comes to cheekpads, they are simple as doing and undoing your press stud buttons, when you install, just make sure you hear a "click sound" each time you put back the cheek pad.

Here is just a guide on how to do it, though it's on an ARAI, just to give you a little perspective.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                          THE END

Yes exactly reverse the process and presto! It's done. Start by placing in the circular lock slots first. Let the visor be positioned just over the side locks and push the visor down on both sides at the same time, you need not pull down the locks this time. When you hear a small click on both ends, your visor is fixed

                            Will do the video soon
