The visor looks delicate because it has reflective background that shows up all the scratches and dead bugs. You dont have this visual problem with the transparent visor

The quality of this visor is kinda meh, if you look closely you will see pigment spots within the visor tint, kinda annoyed me at first but then, meh. Not gonna complain

I dont touch my visor unless I am wearing gloves. Infact I dont touch my visor at all. I understand its not slick while opening the visor, but I still use the handle to push open the visor slightly, then push up the entire visor using the center edge. Closing is pretty slick, no complains on that.

Its a pretty awesome cheap entry level helmet with DOT certification, the cheapest out there currently I believe.

It fits a MT series helmets too ... actually the branding is SPARTAN. The rainbow one is ... yeah multicolored.

Iridium when first exposed has that. It is sensitive to, heck even pressure. It is not to be rubbed across and is very prone to scratches. Actually only the inside scratches ... and only that Iridium shows more than regular. It needs to be cleaned with very soft cloth under running water. Else clean with a wet cloth ... never a dry one. I lift using the pedal and rim the visor open. Its easier when riding.

The helmet itself is cheap to buy ... but I don't think it is a cheap helmet in terms of quality. And you can get a chin curtain from the MT series and fix onto this one. The Wid noise is terrible because of the always open front quarter panel vents. Above 80kmph is is very noticeable ... it kinda hurts after 100kmph.

DOT certification is not ... a certification. Its not enforced and is based on an honor system rather than certification.

The ECE R22-05 is awarded only through a mandatory testing of every batch. It tests helmets to be impact-absorbant allowing a maximum of 275g where an impact G of 200-250 results in major non-lethal head injury.

Look at the beginning of the 'Universal Gear' thread and you'll find list of SPARTAN dealers in your city. Or go to http://spartanprogear.com/home.aspx and look for dealers. This product is not listed though.

DOT standard (FMVSS 218 - Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard #218, Motorcycle Helmets) is a certification alright. Its just specific to US and is enforced by the NHTSA

The thing is, NHTSA does not test the helmets to provide the certification, manufacturers have to self-test their helmets themselves and adhere to the standards of FMVSS218. This puts up a reliability question as it depends on how vigorous each manufacturer tests their product.

Having DOT Standard certification simply means, Kranos helmets can be sold and used in US.

ECE R22-05 certification as you said is obtained after Manufacturers submit their sampling batch to a Government Laboratory facility that applies the R22-05 standards under the UN agreement 1958

SNELL certification is a whole another ball game.

The thing is, NHTSA does not test the helmets to provide the certification. This is what I wanted to convey ... my wording of the statement might be slightly off. Sorry if it was misleading But then what use is a certification if not enforced and I can award it to myself. That is to say I have a Phd from MIT too ... jk

SNELL certification is a whole another ball game.
SNELL has more been about the helmets being more impact-resistant than impact-absorbant. But their new certification has changed to address that point.

All SNELL certified might not pass ECE R22-05 while all ECE R22-05 will not pass SNELL test. Also the ECE R22-05 is more of a Flat and Kerb shaped Anvils while SNELL uses a Steel ball Anvil (now also including Flat and Kerb shaped anvils).

              Hope this is useful information.

                  • Helmet Alternative !!

                    Hello,
Im planning to buy an helmet for airbrushing but i want the helmet to look alike the bandit xxr helmet...since i want to airbrush it like the smiley helmet. But i cant find an alternative to it. I saw the steelbird adonis to be similar but it has the air holes near the mouth part..so airbrushing the mouthpart will become hard. I want the helmet to have a visor similar to the bandit (Like the sunglasses shaped visor). And i have a tight budget so does anyone know an aliternative to it?

I cant say much as I am not aware of teh SHIRO brand. I assume you looked at this product on Amazon.in? Most the reviews are positive so you can probably go for it. Same for the LS2 helmet. Why dont you pay Bike-o-Pedia a visit and checkout teh Kranos/MT helmets? Or you can visit the On the Rocks-Adventure store and checkout the SOL helmets.

As far as I know, unfortunately there arent any legit certified helmets that look like teh XXR. As for the Steelbird Adonis, its only ISI certified I think. I wouldnt recommend buying that helmet even for showingoff with custom airbrush themes. You might wanna look into importing a look-alike certified helmet as far as safety is concerned. But after all that if you still plan on getting teh Adonis, then just plug the air vents and airbrush it.
