Ok guys, got my SOL SF5- Flat Black. Not yet ridden with it. It fits too tight. Yes, I did get the correct size, still!

Padding is good, but not that impressive, but yeah, anyday better than ISI as I expected. Fits in a bit too tight, as its new for now.
Will get better with time, I'm sure. Its taken from official SOL distributor.
The Matt Black shell seems good. Both visors are UV400 protected. Internal visor is dark enough for a bit too bright sort of days. All air vents are close-able... including the exit ones.

Build quality is a mixed bag. It looks good, but there are gaps here and there... Anyone who'd go for a Kawasaki instead of a KTM, don't take SOL. You deserve better. Its ok for me though. I am on a KTM.

I haven't ridden with it yet...

So... Time to go for a ride then... I guess? See you guys. Goodbye.

I am considering getting a helmet for my official commutes. 40% city and 60% highway. I am restricted to a strict sub-4k budget.
The options I am considering are :-
        1) SPG Kranos range
        2) KYT RC7
        3) Studds Shifter
        4) THH Helmets

Any recommendations as regards which helmet would be the best all rounder in terms of all-weather use, comfort, ventilation, protection and durability? Also, I prefer a helmet whose visors can be procured with ease to be replaced when scratched!

OT: It was a tyre change... Don't need the Metzeler tyre anymore. Got Michelins fitted in, that's all.

          --------
As for the helmet, I rode with it on, I find the wind noise quite constrained until 60-70, that's all I took it to, in this ride. Its too tight though for now, it caused my ears to turn red from all that friction while removing and putting on. I think it should serve the purpose well, I hope it gets looser soon though.

It looks huge though, people stare as if a man is on fire... This SOL turns out to be my second imported helmet, the first one being the sorely-missed KYT RC Seven (KYT is a Junior brand of Suomy). It got stolen an year or so ago.

As for those expecting top of the line build quality and experience, look elsewhere. Probably an MT or HJC might do the trick? But SOL is not bad by any means.
Although, even KYT was better in terms of build quality, despite the fact that KYT retails for as less as Rs. 2900.

I would steer you clear from Studds Shifter. It looses its matt finish easily and a shiny finish appears under it... and it looks ugly. Plus, its visor gains scratches easily. Its internal linings also get damaged easily. Mine looks like a cheap helmet now... I got it for Rs. 1900 and I would still want them back, its that low quality. Wind noise is also there for sure, although not really bad compared to others.

I have one year experience of KYT RC7, before it was stolen. And I think that's what you should take. For a decent price, Rs. 2900, you're getting a world class helmet really. Its visor is also available on DSG, albeit a tinted/ rainbow one.

Vega Axor is another choice you might consider. It has ISI + DOT certification. While the helmet is good overall, its visor might get scratched easily and visibly, because its a rainbow visor. My friend had one.

No experience with Kranos. It might be better than RC7.
No experience with THH too, till date. One guy in my group is getting one, but it will take time before he can give a proper ownership experience....

Umm, A lot many guys who have used both the Shifter and the Vega Axor rate the Shifter as better. A moderator who owns a red punto among them.

And now for the question. Which is a better helmet, the KYT or the Sol, with reference PURELY, SOLELY and ONLY to noise insulation?

Well, only a friend of mine owns Axor so won't comment on that, except that a person "may consider" it.

Shifter is my own experience. Its removable paddings got cracks, can you believe it? That too with good care, no crash and no misuse.
And a few days ago, its visor mounting came out. And don't even ask how the screws just "came out". I can show you the pics. And I didn't get its spares as well when I tried.

I won't respond to the mod and many guys thing, because each guy has his priorities. If their priority is safety or convenience or everyday usability, they might have said Shifter is better, so what?

As for KYT vs SOL, I think SOL is better, but I can't be sure as there's a gap of almost an year between me keeping them. I need both side by side to conclude anything.

There is *NO* better helmet than this(this = shifter) if your budget is strictly 2000.

If you can spend 1.5 to 2 time that much, they yes ofcourse go get whatever rocks your boat.

                    Hey,
Planning to pick the first proper helmet. Can you guys suggest one?
I'm looking for flip open lid type helmet say Ninja 3G kind off but not on with Studds/Vega or cheapo's

Say, MT/AXOR/LS2 (Not fake)/AGV/ or any other.

I really liked the MT Blade (though full face) but seems out of production everywhere. Please do note that I wear glasses and it will be hassle-some for snug fit!
Also any recommended place to checkout in Bangalore for getting genuine one at steal deal???

Also I am looking to buy riding jacket along with them.

Thanks a ton for helping out.

@Dinesh515 Welcome to Xbhp brother. Please take some time understanding the forum... From a genuine LS2 studio image, no one can make out whether your particular helmet is original or fake, because we never saw it.
I suggest you try to examine the product itself for spelling mistakes, missing stuff, etc. or post a picture of your helmet itself.

                      ============

Guys, I'm considering a good helmet myself since my Studds Shifter's visor mounting broke. Its matt finish was anyways removed within days, revealing a glossy finish. So, no more ISI for me. Namaste Indian helmets.

                      I have the following needs:-

                      1. ECE/ DOT/ SNELL, Full face only! Not even modular.

                      2. Dual Visors. Need UV protection on the internal or outer visor. The outer visor should be transparent & scratch resistant.

                      3. Need less wind/ hissing noise to ears at high speeds. Desperately so. Don't want my grandchildren calling me a deaf old man!

                      4. Price below Rs. 6500. Can clearly spend more if its decently justifiable.

                      5. Size medium (57 cms head), should be available in India, should be original. NO LS2 at all.

                      I have shortlisted two helmets:-

                      1. MT Blade, this one:- https://spartanprogear.com/collectio...hite-black-red
                      2. SOL SF-5, this one, in Black color though:- SOL HELMETS_PRODUCTS

I'm inclining more towards SOL, because it specifically mentions Wind noise protection in specs.

Anyone has a better suggestion at this price? Or any suggestion at all?

I sorted some one my own here
Please do help me in picking one or suggesting a good one. Most of them will be daily commutes of 10kms and weekend rides of 300kms+/500kms+

Any other good VFMs are welcome too. 5K range would be my budget.

All the below are full face stuffs, I can find modular and best one being as MT OPTIMUS Solid Nero till date.

I just saw another Shifter today, of a friend. It was the graphics edition, not the matt one. If you still want to consider this helmet, you can, because it might be good at safety and it was reasonably comfortable too. The shell had no issue when I used it.
As for visors and paddings, those are replaceable, so have a talk with your retailer regarding the same.

Just avoid the Matt version. Take the graphics one, that is actually good.

The MT blade is the best bet here, but why not this one, the MT Axxis GP Replica also is cool looking one, albeit a tad cheaper when compared to the Blade.

Regarding the place to visit, I think you can take a look at a place called Moto 101, opposite to MTR Hotel on Lalbagh Road and also you can check out Let's Gear Up at HSR Layout, both these places have all the riding gears under one roof reasonably priced and good quality.
