After reading the comments here I am now totally confused about buying a helmet.I have always used an open face helmet.Thankfully never happened to experience it's effectiveness & I wish I never have to (Touchwood).What I like about open face helmets is that the visual field becomes much wider than it feels in full face helmet & also doesn't feel as silent as a full face helmet (I like the road noise,keeps me alert without effort) I agree that Full face helmets are safer,and besides protection from accidents it also protects against dust particles & helps to shut out the breeze whenever required which can keep us going for a longer time on rides.But would I be wrong if I remain in my comfort zone & buy an open face helmet?

If it's just for city, then there's even a question about having an open Face helmet.

But if you also head out to the highways, best have a full face or modular helmet.

About the field of view, that's just a matter of getting used to. Hardly takes a couple of weeks. And once you get used to full face helmets, you wouldn't like open face ones at all.

I won't talk about the possibilities of wrecking your face. You're surely sensible enough to understand that. I can just say that having crashed at 100kmph, I'm lucky I had a full face helmet. I was going to get a half face one just before the accident. Luckily I have all my teeth and my jaw. So that was nice.

Yesterday I had met with accident in City with low traffic. Trust me go for a full face helmet

Just read all the replies. Not quoting everyone but would like to share some more points.

• For modular helmets, again I would not risk my life on the hinge itself.
• One will get used to the field of view in few days, trust me on that. Personal experience Kranos has the least fov, avoid that.
• D Ring are the safest in case of crash, that is why it is being used in motogp and other races too.
• Even if its city ride, I would say full face helmet. You must be riding safe, but you cant guarantee what others would do on road. Would you risk your life in that case?

Well,I have decided on buying a full face helmet.Now with which one to buy.Seen a few helmets & read about a few.LS2,AGV,MT,SMK etc.I Saw LS2 & SMK physically.I tried them too.Both of them fitted well.I was more in favour of LS2 but I wanted to try AGV & MT.I have figured out that I won't be able to try out AGV's in my city & I might have to travel atleast 200kms to actually try it (Which is not practical).People tell me that MT is available but I have not come across one yet.Should I keep searching for MT or go with LS2 helmet.I did like it.SMK did offer some features like an inside smaller viser,a bluetooth area which can help us to install a Bluetooth device if at all needed.

Being a SMK user myself, I recommend the helmet to you. It's loaded with features w.r.t. it's price and may be a good proposition. And I've heard that prices may increase if it comes equipped with company fitted Bluetooth system.

BUT, the only con that I feel it has is the absence of a D-Ring locking mechanism. I used to own a KYT RC7, which unfortunately, got stolen. I was pretty much used to its D-Ring mechanism and the quick release ,that many helmets offer, doesn't feel upto the mark.
And as [MENTION=13887]prateek2210[/MENTION] quoted, a D-Ring ensures that the helmet is a perfect fit for you, given you've selected the right size, and raises the safety quotient.

And hence, due to the absence of D-Ring, I, myself, am looking for a new helmet. Plus, the SMK's now almost a year old. Not a problem, but a personal idea I carry is to replace the helmet as soon as it is a year old.

LS2 avoid as market is filled with fakes in market.
MT , good choice, do try it once.
SOL, being the heaviest and best ventilation out of all, but becomes noisy bcause of too many vents.
SMK value for money imo.
AGV starts at 20k onwards.
THH , Zeus, Shiro helmets are there too.

True, I had nasty accident last october, the helmet never came off my head even after hitting the car and then even after I fell down. It was snug fit and has D Ring, saved my from "opening up".
Try the above mentioned brands if they are available there at your place.

AGV is listed for around 12-13K on a site, motardinn.com
And AFAIK, I talked to a person about Shiro helmets, some reviewer kinda guy, and he told me that Shiros are discontinued. They just manufacture Royal Enfield branded helmets.
Talking of Zeus, Revolt helmets are a good proposition too!

I bought a SMK two days back, and i must say it's a bang for buck. I was reading SMK's review and many users complained about the visor getting loose, discussed this with the dealer and he told me that it's been improved (and the spare is also easily available) and also the inner linings are better now. Only drawback is the lack of d-ring.


I avoided ls2 as i was not convinced about the originality of it. And also as this helmet is just of 4300(i got it for 4100 from studds dealer), i can use the saved money on Jacket.

Yeah, the visor is a problem. But, you have to give up something to achieve something (I don't know if that's the quote 😂)
I got the visor changed 4 days ago. 1 year for a visor is a good time duration, IMO.

₹5000/- is my budget as of now.That is an extended budget actually.I was planning for something around ₹3000/- but the good ones I felt after trying a few were all above that.I did try a THH but I was not sure if it was an original,even though it looked like one.About LS2,the helmet did feel a fake because I searched & searched for the DOT certification but didn't find any.I was a little confused but after your comment I would be more careful now.
PS:- Am I right in searching for a DOT certification? I believe that it should have one.
