Dear VJ Sir, my purpose was to only know the goodness of a synthetic leather over a natural processed leather (which comes from the original hide) at the impact prone areas. Which serves better ? Since the Ironclad seems like a very serious safety gear so it pushed me to drop my observation here on the forum to learn further.

after I reported it to the SPG, there was a little discussion and then I was offered the replacement. The faulty ones were sent back to the SPG for further inspection. I am waiting for a reply/little elaboration from them about the situation that occurred, because this was my first all leather product and therefore I admit that I maintain a little less know-how about leathers.

These cracks kind of things appeared within just 12-15 kms of traffic riding (no rain at all). Now with the replaced ones I have conquered more than 100 kms all in traffic and nothing of this kind has shown up.

First off, the same was reported by Sandeep Patnala too, certain wear hot spots on the palm of the hand, with synthetic, you don't have such issues of layers peeling altogether, though really cheap synthetic are prone to separate layers after layers, seen that cheap purse sold on the road side, they say leather, but it's synthetic leather. And good quality SL is almost as good as genuine hide.

Now cracks appear due to a number of reasons, the thickness of the leather, the way it was corrected as a raw material etc etc. But if it's a crack it maybe due to the leather being at fault here, repeated pressure points on a weak hotspot, one off reason etc or if it's just a surface abrasion then it's completely normal. I've seen quite a few gloves with the surface abrasion, it's completely normal.

But if you have clear cut *cracks*, as opposed to surface scarring, then it's wise decision to replace, as leather will and do tend to enlarge slowly when ripped apart.

      Cheers!
      VJ

      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Please do let us know the final matter once the talks are done between you and spartan guys. Hope they ll replace it.

Regarding the crack, During long term use only we can come to a conclusion whether it ll tear the leather apart or it remains the same. Best thing is getting it replaced and i have done the same. Send my Rynox back to them and waiting for new set.

This is the quality of good leather gloves. I have got these Firstgear city gloves from USA around 3.5 yrs back for around 1300 INR. The leather quality is superb that even after 3.5 yrs of heavy use, it remains almost same. The texture became a little smooth at contact areas due to heavy use, but its not wear out. The leather thickness remained same. I would like to get this quality gloves again.

            • Riding Suit, Boots and Gloves from Washington DC !

              Hi !

I would like to know if anyone here has ordered anything from the US of A !

One of my friends is based in Washington DC and would be coming to India in December this year, so I thought why not take this opportunity to get some good quality(cheap) stuff from there.

              There are two options,

              1) I order stuff online, pay online and get it delivered in FairFax
              2) I can ask my friend to visit any of the outlets and buy !

              Questions,

              1) Good online store and brands for boots, Budget 100-120$
JOE ROCKET - Sonic R Waterproof Motorcycle Boots - Waterproof - Boots - Street - CycleGear - Cycle Gear
              How are these?

              2) Anyone heard the name or used any products from BiLT?
              BiLT - Trackstar One-Piece Leather Motorcycle Suit - Leather - One-Piece - Suits - Street - CycleGear - Cycle Gear
              Riding Suit Budget 200-300$

              3) Full gauntlet gloves can be purchased locally as well, because I am a little sceptical about the fitting, anybody used these?
Long Gloves - Royal Enfield Gloves
Or if getting from thr then the Budget : 50-70$

              4) Need to know how one can acquire KTM Powerparts in washington.

All suggestions are welcome, given you have the time and patience to answer

Best is option 1. Have done it couple of times.

Since he will be coming in Dec, would advise to wait till the week of Nov 28th to get more discounts. Hopefully even the conversion rate with dollar might get better.

Better still would be if your friend can place the order and pay by a USA card, saving you 4.28% of bank charges on Indian credit/debit card.

                      • Ok guys.. finally bought some of my gear today, would really like to thank Xbhp and everyone here for their valuable suggestions and opinions.

To start with, I had a very restricted budget and coming to the jacket, Spartan Icarus was my preferred choice. Tried the L size and it did not fit me well. Since Icarus doesnt come in XL, decided to try out Helios. Tried it, found it to be pretty good both in fit and finish. Bought it

Coming to the Helmet, i was very much confused here as i had many options to choose from, though my personal choice was SOL. But since i spent more on the Jacket, i had to cut down a bit here and hence opted for my second personal choice LS2.

I always wanted a Yamaha Logo keychain in red color to go with my bike, hence bought this too.

Lastly, Spartan Phateon gloves and Perseus knee guards were not available with the dealer i went to, though he has ordered them and should take a few days. Will go and buy them once i would be notified.

I am confident that i have made the right choice after a lot of research and reviews. Hope you guys would agree. Cheers, Ride Safe..!!

Perhaps I'd suggest you to look for AGV Suits and A* SMX 2 boots from abroad, and a get a decent pair of gloves from Fieldsheer, FS makes some bloody good gloves. The above mentioned stuff by you is good, but personally I don't think they are worth it especially importing from US of A.

My humble suggestion would be get yourself an AGV which has lots of discounts on many stores, plus A* SMX 2 and Fieldsheer glove or A* glove, you're all set.

                          Cheers!

VJ ! Thanx for the input I appreciate it..

A little background, was looking for a suit that I might use say twice a year when headed to one of the tracks down south.. AGV is super class stuff with a pricetag above my budget...
Fieldsheer gloves.. WOW looks amazing... and decently priced too...
Boots, I've been using DMS Military Boots until now.. SMX2 looks tempting though I'm not sure if I want the long ones or short ones...

I went out today to a couple of stores, could only try gloves and I understood that you cant really choose till the time you try... Tried DSG Primal, Cramster TRG2.. Like Felt the difference between the sizes and fitting... Liked cramster more.. But don't know how to be sure of the size when ordering online..

I was thinking to invest say 400-500$ in the riding gear as the time's less...and the rupee is still down...

Still confused as so many choices but cant try any, so everything looks the same and it all comes down to make the most of it... So would really appreciate if you could help...

                            Currently owned :

                            HJC Helmet
                            LS2 Riding Jacket
                            Cross Mesh Gloves
                            Knee guards (AXO Copy)
                            DMS Boots

Budget as mentioned above... Now you suggest from your experience what should I get ?
